Watto's Junk Yard / Re: JD Book Club: What Are You Reading Now?
« on: June 23, 2003, 05:40 PM »
I've really been reading a lot lately.  Yesterday I finished the new Harry Potter book, which I loved.  I think its the best one of the series so far.  I won't say anymore for people who are still reading it

I also finished reading Secrets of the Tomb by Alexandra Robbins.  Its about the Skull and Bones, which is a secret society at Yale.  Lots of influential people have been members, such as the Bush family and its a big topic for conspriacy theorists, claiming that its part of a secret world government.  According to the book, where the author interview a lot of Bonesmen as they're called, its really nothing more than a good ole' boys club.  Of course...maybe they're just giving her disinformation.....Either way, it wasn't as interesting as I was hoping it would be.

Next on my list is Without a Badge by Jerry Speziale.  Its about an undercover DEA agent inside the Cali drug cartel

I can't believe people still use AOL.  Thank God I never had to

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: playing hooky
« on: June 23, 2003, 05:32 PM »
I never played hooky in high school, nor do I now in law school.  However....undergrad...my friends and I would skip class for just about any reason

Felt like playing 007 for N64, we'd skip class.  Korn was going to be #1 on TRL, we'd skip class.  I used to skip 8 am classes all the time for sleeping in or going to breakfast.  Those were the days

I finished reading HP today, I read about half yesterday and half today, instead of doing my reading for school.  I'm a fast reader.  As usual, all the characters get a little more depth to them, and some older characters are back

Episode 1 / The end of the story (its lame)
« on: June 19, 2003, 09:38 PM »
This is why I shouldn't post at work.  I start to write something, then have to do something for work, and forget to finish my post.

Anyway, I get out of bed early, go to Wally World and stare in shock and awe at all the new toys.  Since I was on a limited budget, I picked up all the jedi except Luminara Unduli, they didn'th ave any of her.  All in all, it was a good morning ;D

Saga '02-'04 / Anyone a member of KEBco 1 of every figure club?
« on: June 19, 2003, 09:35 PM »
So, I'm having horrible luck (for the most part) finding new figures, none of the stores in my town have anything.  I'm thinking about joining the KEBco one of every figure club.  Is anyone here a member of it, is it worth joining?

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Target Has New Items
« on: June 19, 2003, 09:32 PM »
How funny is this.  I go to Target before work and pick up

Yoda & Chian
Lama Su
Aayla Secura
Barriss Offee
Ashla & Jempa
Research Droids

Then I get to work, fire up JD and see the main story telling me to go to Target.  So far this year Target has been the only place I've found any new figures, all the other stores in my area suck

My avatar is Space Moose.  Space Moose was the star of a an extremelyprofane comic strip that ran in a Canadian college's newspaper in the early 90's.

I went to Barnes & Noble on Sunday when I was bored, which is always a good way for me to spend too much money

I'm reading No One Here Gets Out Alive, which is a biography of Jim Morrison.  I've always been a fan of The Doors, and I remember wanting to read this book when I was in 5th grade, and my mom wouldn't let me.  Probably a good idea on her part

Other Toy Lines / Re: McFarlane Sportspicks
« on: June 17, 2003, 01:10 PM »
It was a sad day in Sportspicks land for me this weekend, I sold all my chase figures with the except of Red and White Yzermans, and Red Shanahan.  I did make a nice profit on them, which eased the pain a little, but it was sad to see them go :-\

I rented RTCW a few weels ago for Xbox and I really liked it.  The AI is good, but not great.  Its not at the level of Splinter Cell, but its not bad.  I may buy it if I can find it cheap enough

Episode 1 / Re: The Original "Midnight Madness"

This is a great topic, can't believe I didn't see it earlier

It was the summer after my freshman year of college, I had managed to get a decent paying job for the summer.  My friend Vo and I went to the local TRU.  We must have looked like an interesting duo.  Vo is a 6'4 black guy who, at the time had a big fro.  I'm a 5'8 little white guy who looked like crap from doing yardwork all day.

We get there probably about 11:00.  There's about 20 people ahead of us in line.  We even see a couple local news crews covering the event.  The NBC news guy comes over to us and asks if we want to be on tv.  We say sure.  He asks a couple questions about why we're here, how many toys we each have, etc.  After the NBC guy is done the Fox News guy interviews us.

They're letting people in 20 at a time.  We're the last people in.  They just had bins of the figures.  We decide on a system.  Vo grabs a cart.  I grab handfuls of toys from the bins and dump them in the cart.  Vo sorts them out and hands me back what we don't need.

And, we get on tv one more time.  As we're checking out, the CBS crew films us.  I had a number of people tell me the next day they saw me on tv ;D

My senior year of college.  I was doing an unpaid internship >:( so I had no money.  So what do I do, buy lots of toys.  When midnight rolls around, I get a friend and we head to Meijer, the only store in the arena that's open 24 hours.  None of the Wally Worlds are, and TRU wasn't doing a midnight sale.

We get to Meijer.  No toys.  They didn't get their shipment.  So we go to another Meijer, same result.  Another toy hunter at Meijer tells me Media Play is open for selling Star Wars stuff.  We drive a half hour to Media Play.  They've got all sorts of Star Wars stuff, except the figures.  I end the night empty handed :(

I did drag my ass out of bed the next morning and hit up wal mart.
