Star Wars Action Figures / Re: SWG's custom figures
« on: August 22, 2009, 05:21 PM »
Thanks Stormforce and Ryan. I've always thought that the presentation is just as important as the production. I've seen plenty of great customs that looked horrid because they were photographed on the kitchen table using the flash or some other bad setup. And I've seen some mediocre customs that definitely benefited from nice photography.

As for the backdrops, I use several different pieces. I don't have photos of them all, but this is the one that I use most:

Basically, it's 3 different pieces made by Kotobukiya called "Mechanical Chain Base", that were made for displaying Gundam model kits and figures. They are all sold separately, and each box contains a floor piece and a wall piece and then some extra bits and pieces. Like I mentioned, I took 3 different kits and put them together to form this little hallway area, then I painted it and weathered it for a nice dirty look, lol.

Some of the other pieces that I use are from the McFarlane Matrix figures (like on Darth Caedus and Jaina Solo), one is from a DC Superman figure (like on Kal Skirata), and a few other odds and ends.

Anyway, here's a few pics of my newest pieces. More pics and info, recipes, etc. can be found on my website: http://www.starwarsgeek.net

Mara Jade - The Emperor's Hand

Jaina Solo (version 2)

I've been with this line since day 1, after grabbing Yoda at Celebration 3. But for some reason, when they do something from the OT it just doesn't fit, or look right, to me. The original CW versions are amazing, I've got all 16 framed and hung on my wall. But I guess since there isn't a cartoon to match up the animated look of the OT characters with, they just seem odd.

I grabbed the first few like the Boba, TIE Pilot, Slave Leia, Sandtrooper and Tarkin, just because I was on the fence and didn't want to miss out, but I've passed on the rest... and will keep passing. And the 'one-off' characters like Maris Brood? WTF?

Not as much as I once was, thanks to the fact that I haven't had a job in a year...

IMO, nothing eBay can do at this point will fix the huge damage they caused last year.

And continue to cause... I agree.

Although I have to say, it's not always eBay's fault... there are plenty of stupid people out there.

I had a buyer complain to me that they paid for "Priority Mail" and I shipped it "Priority Flat Rate"  ::)

I had a buyer complain that I packed a box with newspaper, because his hands got dirty from the ink rubbing off  ::)  ::)

I had a buyer complain that I shipped his package to him too quickly because he went on vacation and wasn't expecting me to ship it so soon, so it would arrive after he came back home. So he was mad that it sat on his doorstep for 3 days while he was away...

Rob, I've learned (the hard way, unfortunately) that it really doesn't matter what you say, or what you do. There is just no pleasing some people. And some people will just flat out lie.

I usually ship items the same day people pay if they pay me before around 2pm or the very next day at the latest, since I have no job or anything... and yet, I still can't seem to get above a 4.7 - 4.8 on my DSR scores.

Not to mention that I had a buyer who bought a Galactic Heroes figure from me for like $2, paid, I shipped it next day, she got it in 3 days from the end of the auction. On day 7 after the auction, she leaves me a negative feedback, says it took me 8 days to ship (even though it had only been 7 days since the auction ended) and that my communication was extremely poor.

So basically, ebay sucks. But what can you do?

I was going to resurrect the old thread, but decided that I've actually come a long way since the last time I posted here under that old name... so I'll start fresh. Here's a small sample of some recent figures that I've done...

A lot of my most recent work has been non-Star Wars, because I lost my job about a year ago and have been doing commissions full time, and when the guy paying for work doesn't want a Star Wars figure you just make whatever they ask for, lol!

If you click my signature "Custom Figures" link will take you to my website with some more photos, and the "YouTube" link will take you to my YouTube page (duh!) where I have uploaded some video slideshows and tutorials as well.

Well, I was a member here a few years ago, actually a staff member, and then some **** went down that wasn't cool so I left and things got out of hand and things were said and names were called and yadda yadda yadda... but I'm older and wiser now, so I've decided to come back and see what was up with my old hangout. After around 15 minutes of trying to remember my old password and then trying to recover it... I said **** it and just re-registered. Easier this way. Also wipes out any bad memories, lol!
