Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Ever Get Free Cable???
« on: January 27, 2004, 01:23 PM »
After going without cable for 2 years(didn't go where I lived) on a whim I plugged it into the TV when we moved into our first house.

Man alive - I was in heaven.  Well a couple weeks later they shut it off... :(  When I called to see how much it would cost out there, they wanted some astronimical amount.

I said screw it and got a dish (all legal) for half the price and 3 x the amount of channels!

Also, once time when I was younger I got free porn one morning!  I used to get up at 3 AM to go to work, and happened to flip on the TV.   ;D ;D ;D

Never happened again though... still checked every morning. ;)

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Cell phone recommendations?
« on: January 9, 2004, 03:58 PM »
I am a technician for a wireless service provider in Canada so I know a little ;)

IMO flip phones can be prone to breakage, and the flips are damn expensive.

Talk to your current provider (if you are happy with your plan, coverage etc. etc.) and see what models they offer you.

If you can provide some examples I might be able to answer you better.

If you go here Howard Forums ...  One of the biggest cell phone user groups on the net ask around in either your provider forum, or the manufacturer forum.

These guys are cell phone freaks and will qucikly point out all the good and bads.

I like how the swear filter removed the first name of your Vice-President. :D

My parent's cat was a real problem.  I am pretty sure she was pure un-adulterated evil wrapped in fur!

She would sit on a couch and take a swipe at anyone walking by.  When I would house sit at my parents, I would have to use a hockey stick to prod her into the basement for the night, she even ripped apart one blade pretty good.

We would always tell strangers not to go near her, but there was always one who wouldn't listen.

Us "Please don't go near the cat, she is dangerous"

Furnace guy "It's just a cat"

Us "Consider yourself warned"

Furnace guy "ARGHHHHHHHHH my hand!"

When my parnets house caught fire, the cat survived!  I said, I told you so, you can't kill evil with fire!

She is NOT missed by anyone but my stepdad who was the only person whe would let near her!

The only other time was I was bitten by my own cat!  I had him at the vet for vaccinations, and he bit me.

The vet was pretty insistant I go see a doc. as you can get something called "Cat Scratch Fever" by cat bites.  It was late but I walked into one of those after hours clinics about 45 min. before it closed.

It was empty except for the doc. and receptionist who were just sitting chatting.  She has the nerve to say she won't see me!

Why?  Well we are closing  Yeah, in 45 min.  Well I took my last patient for the day.

I freak out, and ramble off something about treating the sick, and oaths and such, and she relents...  finally.

I go to the pharmacy for my prescription .. $78 (thank god for my excellent drug plan) and the pharmasist is going on and on about the danger of a cat bite.

Well to cut it short (too late right :-) by the next day I am freaking because on the bottom of my arm all the way from the bite is two red lines getting longer and longer by the hour.

Back to another clinic.. doc says well the anti-biotics should be working soon, but if it gets close to the end of your arm (going for the heart) go the hospital immediately!

Shortly after it stopped and the lines fadded away!

Amen brother!!  Crap like this is partly the reason I have stopped adding to my collection for a while.

We all know there is nothing up here new, and I think some people take advantage of this when dealing with us Canucks!

There was a time when Walmart dropped the Cantina sets to $2 on clearance up here and one guy on RS posts a wanted add that says he wanted some but knew that they were going for $2 up here and not expect much in return for them!

That really ticked me off.  This wasn't to buy them either.. it was a trade!  So he was offering crap in return because he knew they were only $2, but he would have to pay $8 there!

/end rant

I am glad though people like that have been so far outweighed by the amount of generous people I have come across here and other boards.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: A Festivus, for the rest of us!
« on: December 23, 2003, 01:05 PM »
I have a little metal tube in my desk drawer at work.  Not really sure why, its been there since I got the desk.  I think its a section of wire conduit tube, anyway...

In honor of Festivus I stuck some play-doh on the bottom and put it up on my desk.

Sadly no one at work got it.  I laughed, and laughed though.  I wonder why no one comes near my desk now?

Wierd.

My bonus:

"Congratulations, feel free to help yourself to any of your former co-worker's office supplies...  They don't need them now that they are laid off, and you will probably need them anyway as you are now doing three jobs at the cost of one employee"

Tomorrow I get to leave at 5, instead of 6PM Wohoo!!  But don't worry you'll make it up by working from 8Am to 6PM on Boxing day!

Unfortunately I am serious.....   :-[

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Christmas Songs that Suck
« on: December 7, 2003, 10:52 AM »
You know between my wife and I we must have "heard" that song hundreds of times over the years, but we actually "listened" to it for the first time the other day.

WTF - they kill Grandma!  They actually kill a Grandmother in a Christmas song!

What kind of drunken fools write a song like that, even worse radio stations actually play the thing!

For songs I hate.. any Christmas song, once great, now butchered by either a country "singer", pop "star", or rap "artist"

Sinatra, Crosby and that genre.. now that is Christmas music!

Watto's Junk Yard / How many here live far away from family?
« on: November 25, 2003, 11:24 PM »
How man people here live far away from your family, and how do you deal with it?

The reason I post is, my Dad has just sort of semi-retired.  He bought a cabin in the mountains about a 10 hour drive from me.

Now, I know 10 hours isn't that far, but I have little kids and the chances to see their grand dad have now dropped to maybe x2 / year. :(

I do have a lot of family here too, but I have a pretty good relationship with my Dad, and I guess I am having a hard time dealing with the fact he is leaving.

I'm 30 years old... you'd think it wouldn't be a big deal.

Anybody experience this before?  Any tips.

Thanks,

Scott

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Car Insurance!!!
« on: November 21, 2003, 03:55 PM »
Its supposed to be the same here.

All rates were supposed to be frozen once the new government was sworn into office a few weeks ago.

What I think happened is the companies jacked the rates before the new governement because they could see the writing on the wall, and have now "complied" by freezing them at these artificially high rates.

From what I hear from my broker (also my wife's Aunt and Uncle) for me personally is there has been some mistake by the company.  They have no reason based on my driving record to jack the rates this much at once.

They promised to look into it for me.

We'll see I guess.

Overall rising cost of auto repairs.. part of the problem there is the auto body shops screwing the insurance companies!

My father in law is a body man for a major dealership here, and he told me they charge an insurance company x3 what they would charge a customer for the same repair.

They know the company will pay it, plus there is a precident as they always charged high, so they can't stop now!

The problem is everything is getting more expensive, but my damn pay cheque isn't going up that's for sure!
