To quote Mark Twain "The difference between the right word and the wrong word is the difference between lightening and a lightening bug."

As long as we're splitting hairs, the actual quote is this:

“The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.”

Vintage Kenner / Re: Latest vintage acquisition
« on: August 25, 2010, 09:57 AM »
I picked up a loose complete Jabba at Chicago Comic Con, along with a loose complete Dewback and a sealed boxed Vehicle Maintenance Energizer (say that three times fast).  There were lots of vintage goodies at the con (including a boxed mint Droids A-wing - only $720) but I had to pass on a lot of it.  It was cool just to see some of it.

I would have slapped whoever was selling that A-Wing and told them to take a peek at eBay to see how wildly inflated that price is. Those things are EASILY scored in original packaging for far less than that.

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Recent Clone Wars Finds/Purchases
« on: August 24, 2010, 10:39 AM »
Stopped by TRU when they opened this morning to hunt for the Boba Fett UBP. There were none on the pegs (yet) but I did see another Obi-Wan w/BARC Speeder, which is the pack-in with the Mando Speeder set I have been searching for fruitlessly.

Not anymore!  ;D

Turns out the guy I know who works there stashed one for me in the back when he saw them out this past weekend. Sweet. So he brought it out for me and I bought that sucker immediately. Nice score, love the set. Even though it looks like my guy has 2 left legs and the pistols are both bent sideways.  ::)

There are some nice new carded and loose pics of Vos up on Yakface now...

Thanks Jack, I was just able to find this on the TRU website as well, apparently a new listing, no photo yet:

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4020324

Item # 492296
SKU: 1284FA63
UPC: 653569513674

It's listed as "Star Wars Ultimate Battle Pack Vehicles"...$109.99, yikes!

I found this in the Chicago burbs thanks to a tip from a friend, so it's starting to trickle out from the West Coast. They only had one on the very top shelf.

Here is the kicker: luckily the last one that they had had a price tag on it for $99.99. TRU rarely has price tags on their merchandise, so when I went to pay it rang up for $109.99! I showed them the price tag and they adjusted it to $99.99. So do not be surprised if you find this at that price, hopefully yours will have the tag mine did. The box is slightly smaller than the AT-AT but it feels light. I literally just got home and will open later, I will shoot some pics. This time I have the right number so you guys can find this too.

Congrats dude, that's awesome. Can you also post the Item # and/or UPC when you get a chance? Thanks!

I have a jpeg of the order form but can't figure out how to post it here. Will try later when I have more time.

I sent away for this yesterday...had to buy an extra Camo ARF Trooper just to get the fifth UPC. Kind of a waste, but oh well.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: adult swim
« on: August 20, 2010, 01:37 PM »
Don't really care for piss poor animation and crude subject manner I guess.  I've just been sticking to the Fox stuff.

Not trying to tease you, but that just reads like such a hilarious contradiction. Fox has built an empire on poor animation and crude subject matter, IMO. King of the Hill makes my eyes bleed it is so poorly drawn. And nothing stoops as low as Family Guy, God bless 'em.  ;D

Adult Swim started when I was in college and will always be special. There have been some great shows on there, and more than a few pilots that should have become shows. (AHEM - Korgoth, BEST THING EVER)

I can get with about 85% of the programming now. No interest in the schlocky anime they run, or the endless reruns of Family Guy or American dad, but most everything else is gold.

Best things right now:

ATHF (Probably done though)
SQUIDBILLIES (Freaking unstoppably hilarious)
VENTURE BROS (I really think they need to cut it back to 12 minutes like everything else though)
SUPERJAIL (Words cannot even describe the brilliance, perverse and mondo-violent)
METALOCALYPSE (Seriously - animation + death metal? It's like they ripped the show right out of my brain!)

And last but certainly the opposite of least: CHECK IT OUT with Dr. Steve Brule!!!!!!!

You either love this show or hate it - there is no in-between. I think it's the most screamingly funny epic thing on TV ever, but then I actually watch low budget cable access shows, so there you go.

I'm an AS guy for life, boyee.

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: CW "Epic Encounter" Ultimate BP
« on: August 20, 2010, 12:30 PM »
Well, I finally broke down and ordered this thing today off Toy Palace. It's been at the top of my list for nearly a year, and after months of diligent searching I feel confident I will never see this on eBay. That alone is practically unbelievable.

I got a small discount as a new customer, but it's still brutal financially. The shipping alone is half as much as the item itself. Still, as a diehard completist this was a mandatory pick-up.

Will bump the thread when it arrives, but it will likely be awhile.

Nice find. Once I saw the posting over at Yakface I went to TRU.com. Could this be the listing on TRU.com:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4205503

I can now confirm that the above listing is actually for the AT-AT, not the Rise of Boba Fett UBP.  :'(

I don't see any kind of listing for the UBP yet. Damn!

They still have the wrong item description up for the Nikto Pirate too.

Shadows of the Dark Side '10-'11 / Re: Imperial AT-AT
« on: August 20, 2010, 11:05 AM »
GH is reporting that the TRU Exclusive AT-AT in vintage packaging has been found in the Center of the Toy Universe, AKA Arizona. Looks like the price will be $109.99.

Was going to cave and buy this when it finally arrives on the East Coast in a few months, but I think I will have to pass because space is fast becoming an issue with my collection. Bummer.  :(

TV-9D9 / Re: The Clone Wars - Season Three Discussion Thread
« on: August 20, 2010, 10:57 AM »
Good points, I was thinking about it last night and there will always be that goofy name precedent from the movies, although it seemed to get worse in the Prequels, so I get that. I just think they've kind of taken it to a rather ridiculous extreme. I like cool, alien sounding names like K'Kruhk though...wish they went more that route.

And yeah, I do love the Zabraks too, and this could be a potentially cool character, and certainly a worthy figure. Just wish he had a better name.

If they are introducing new characters with an ultimate endgame in mind for them, that's great. I just hate to see continual cluttering of the cast with no occasional deletions. It gets unwieldy after awhile. Less screen time for the "regulars" and all that.

3074
Well, if this is going to be TRU's Deluxe exclusive this Fall, the other one should follow form and be a TCW offering, like last year. Something for everyone.

3075
Kudos for the exclusive first look at Vos. You guys rule!

I agree with Jeff, he must be in Season 3 because it seems ridiculous to have held him out of CV otherwise. Then again, it would have been smarter to just go ahead and show it rather than letting the photos leak the next week too.  ::)

I'm calling this schmoe "Tarzan-Jedi"...or maybe "Master Perry Farrel".

Stupid, but I'll buy him.
