Vintage Kenner / Re: Vintage Figure Checklist
« on: April 24, 2012, 09:02 PM »
I know exactly what you are talking about, and there really is none - it's a shame. Even the forums over at RS are pretty lackluster on this subject. I have been searching for awhile now and there really is no definitive catalog.

The best reference guide/checklist I have seen is the old SWCA/Toys R Gus one which I have bookmarked at work but not here at home, oddly enough. I will try to post it tomorrow.

IMHO, those Vintage stinkers sit around way longer than any alleged peg warmers from the Clone Wars line. All our local Walmarts have had those pre-TPM figures marked down to $4 or less for months now, and they're just not moving.

But good luck finding any Clone Wars figure in the SOTDS packaging at a Walmart or Target now. That stuff blew out quickly once it got cheap.

I agree with Adam that their secondary characters sell just fine, but since we are no longer getting any of these, it's sort of a moot point, really.

People don't get excited to own toys that have current media support? I can't agree with that, Hasbro just has to make smart decisions.

I never read the subsequent material, but I recall his first appearance in Omega Men. Man, that was a fantastic comic. I still have them all.

Yes, I ordered them from Target.com over this past weekend. The Attack Recon Fighter is still in stock, but the Submarine set sold out pretty quick.

Thanks Pete, I checked last night and it looks like both of these are back in stock now. How badly did they rape you on shipping? I don't like sites that don't disclose that up front. I don't have the time or inclination to create an account there just to see how much they plan to gouge me on shipping.

I also noticed they have some sweet ass role play items they are not selling in stores for some inexplicable reason. I would buy Anakin's gauntlet and Pre Vizsla's Vorpal Sword in a heartbeat for $15 each if I ever saw them. More money left on the table...

The Celebrity Death Trifecta is now complete...RIP, Levon Helm. And then this guy:

Was never a fan of The Band, but I will always remember Levon fondly as Loretta Lynn's father in Coal Miner's Daughter.

I opened my Republic Scout Speeder last night and came away disappointed. It's just kind of boring. The design is cool enough, but I think pretty much EVERYTHING in the Class I line should have some kind of action feature, at minimum firing missiles. Nothing on this thing shoots. They work firing missile accessories into every other carded figure it seems, so I don't see why this is so hard.

$6 is about as much as I would want to pay for this thing, so I can't complain really, but meh.

Are you cereal?

That's ridiculous. I would have told them to shove it right up their ******* asses.

That place takes itself waaaaay too seriously. Rebelscum my ass, they roll much more like The Empire with that heavy-handed, humorless crap.

That just comes off as petty and immature. Get over it already.

Got my MIB and opener sets of the Attack Recon Fighter and Republic Assault Submarine today.

Both are GREAT sets, it's just too bad that these probably won't ever be actually seen at retail, thanks to the stupid move of repacking 1999 toys at 2012 prices.

So did you end up ordering them online? Apparently these were only spotted in Texas and one random Walmart in Atlanta.  ::) I kept waiting for the eventual spread of other sightings but they never came.

I have a feeling I am never going to see these things either.

Reminds me of that old Rodney Dangerfield line:

$50 for four figures? I don't think so.

co-sign. I'll just wait til they show up at stores...sometime in July or August, judging by the pace the current junk is moving.  ::)

It's amazing how quickly Hasbro managed to kill any sense of enthusiasm I had for this line.

The most exciting part of Clone Wars collecting now is finding old stuff being clearanced at the discount stores. That's sad.

Picked up the SOTDS Republic Scout Speeder at Marshall's today for $5.99. They also had the set with the battle droid, but not as enticing. Would love to find the Wheelbike with Grievous if that one should turn up.

I don't watch many movies anymore, but I did recently make time for last year's remake of The Thing, which (SPOILER ALERT!) actually turns out to be a nifty bookend prequel to the Carpenter version. I liked that a lot. The movie itself was ok, not an embarrassment to the franchise at all. I thought the conception of the actual alien in (presumably) its unaltered state was pretty cool.

Somewhat less satisfying was Darkest Hour, which I watched last night. Aliens are somehow just less exciting when they're invisible.

I saw footage from the Red Carpet Premiere last night.

WTF was Charlie from LOST doing there? Is that little weasel actually IN this movie? Dude must lead a charmed life...so far the only project he's been involved with that hasn't been an epic success was Flash Forward. (ugh)
