I caved in and got the SOTE TIE Fighter at Target today and will probably have to go back and get the CW figure packs.  From the posts above, it sounds like I should start checking my local Khols stores 8)

So far, these are not really moving in my area.  One of my local Wal Marts has at least 10 of them still sitting on the shelf.  I'm content with my one, but if they are discounted after the holidays, I'll grab another ;)

I rather like the Freeco speeder, enough that I picked up two.  To me, its an interesting variation on the bike concept with the enclosed cockpit and all.  From what I've seen, the ammount of "frost" on the windscreen varies.  Some are pretty much clear and others are near solid white.

Although our local WMs and TRU have continued to pretty much be barren of SW figures (unless that has changed this week), Target has been stocked to the gills it seems.  Although I already have what I need via online sources, I've seen quite a bit of the ROTJ wave - and this morning the ANH wave was on the pegs as well.  It is the most Legacy I've seen out in some time, and the Legends/CW pegs are full of figs as well.  Nice to (finally) see some stock making it out.

Yes, my targets have done the same with the ANH and ROTJ waves.  They've also been putting out last year's wave of CW figures, but on the new cards.  I've not seen the new waves of CW figures or the ROTS wave yet.

Sounds like the poor sales of this round of Droid Factory 2-Packs (yes, probably the fault of the $17 price tag) have killed this line.

I guess I'm OK with that.  At $10-12, they were fun.  At $17... not quite as much fun.  :-\

Agreed.  A couple Wal Marts in my area have had them for a couple months now and most are still there.  I did pick up the Corran Horn pack, but only because I liked getting an action figure one of the main characters from the X-Wing series of books that I was into back in the '90s.  Most of the other figures were repacks and not the best figures at that.  The Grevious and Boba Fett packs, for example, should have used the updated versions of those figures.  I would have at least been more inclined to buy them.

Shadows of the Dark Side '10-'11 / Re: 2010 Disney Star Tours Box Set
« on: November 17, 2009, 11:39 AM »
There was a smaller model of the Star Speeder 3000 made several years ago and sold at Disney parks.  Depending on how one fudges their scales, it could either be between 1:48 and 1:64 scale.  It had the droid pilot figure, R2D2, a full cabin with seats, opening doors, and well-integrated lights and sound.  I never got one myself, but my younger brother did.  I do have some of the Star Tours droids on the POTF2 cards, however.

As for the ride, if you have not been on it, fork over the cash and go to Disneyland (or Disneyworld).  The ride is totally worth it.  While the time has come for a makeover, I still really love the "Original Trilogy" feel of the existing ride at the Disneyland Park in California.  It does an excellent job of making you feel like you've entered the Star Wars Universe, even if the events are a little non-cannon.  Having grown up with the original films, Star Tours was such an awesome experience when I firs rode it as a kid in the late 1980s.  I got to do all the Star Wars things I wanted to do: go to lightspeed, fly through an asteroid field, shoot TIE fighters in a space battle, and fly the Death Star trench run.  Too bad all kids know these days are the prequals and the Clone Wars cartoons... They're just not the same.

So how soon does anyone want to guess we'll see a toy of one of those super tanks for sale? :P

I liked some aspects of the episode and then disliked others.  As Jesse noted, the tensions between Ashoka and Bariss Offee were interesting and I was glad to see the "possessive" attitude in Anakin brought out.  (I really want Ashoka to get killed off at some point in the series, driving a despairing Anakin closer to the dark side >:D )  There was still a lot of carnage and in my sick mind, I'm always a fan of that in this series.

As for my personal drawbacks, the super tanks were sort of bland, but did seem to evoke something of the AT-ATs in ESB in terms of a massive, near-impervious weapon that could destroy just about anything on the good guys side.  A more tank-like appearance with a turret or something would have been cool, though I thought the mortars were interesting.  I'm sure we'll be seeing more of them in future episodes.  I still think the episode moved too quickly to really develop the story or the characters as effectively as they could.

I've seen the complete ANH wave by now over 2-3 Wal Marts in my area, but have yet to see the ROTS one.  It will likely be around in time...

I picked up the new Freeco Speeder recently.  The Obi Wan figure is a nice improvement over the initial one with the articulated legs and cloth tunic.  The speeder itself is nice in my opinion, with a detailed cockpit, retractable skids, and some attempt at weathering with the "frost" on the canopy - a rarity for vehicles packaged under the CW line ;)

Great review.  I agree that this is now one of my favorite SW vehicles and Hasbro did a fantastic job with it.  Really, it is one of the recent Star Wars vehicles that I'm the most pleased with.  I've long collected the realistic military vehicle collectables which usually feature stellar amounts of detail and function compared to the standard Star Wars item.  In my opinion, the new AT-ST is one of the few Hasbro Star Wars vehicles that approaches those in terms of detail, accuracy, scale, and playability.  The new TIE Interceptor also does the same, along with a few of the existing vehicles, but not many overall.  Now if Hasbro can just keep this trend up ;)

I've seen the Geonosis Assault packs (with the gun bubble) at one of the Wal Mart stores in my area.  There was only one and it was in the blue & white packaging.  I purchased two of the same pack over a month ago at TRU.  I have not seen the other battle packs in my area yet, but have not been looking too hard.  Lots of Jabba ones and some others from earlier this year.

Found a mixture of the new ANH and ROTJ waves at one Wal Mart, including the Imperial Scanning Crew figure.  I'll need another one of those for the technician figure.  They also had the new delux figure packs...  The Freeco speeder is quite nice!

That was a fun episode 8)  I caught the replay Sunday night and found it to be really one of the most intense combat scenes that I think has ever been done in Star Wars.  If I have any gripe, I thought the episode moved too quickly, but the combat sequences were great.  They were certainly inspired by many of the invasions in WWII and seemed to greatly resemble the Omaha beach landings, as other members have noted.  I'm glad to see the creators of the CW series do not skimp on depecting the true brutality of warfare and that the show is done in a manner that even older viewers can enjoy.

The long commercial breaks for silly kids toys get annoying, though :P

I too cringe when hearing of Wal Mart exclusives...  Over the past several years, I collected the 1:18 Xtreme Detail military items made by 21st Century Toys, which were sold at Wal Mart until early 2009.  If you cringe at the current level of Hasbro distribution, then trying to find 21st Century items was far worse, even during the line's heyday in the 2004-2007 timeframe.  Judging from reports on the SSHQ forum, people would find new items (mostly in the midwest and upper south) and it would be often 3-4 months if at all before I found the same items in my area in central California - and I live only 150 miles from the 21st Century Toys headquarters.  If the items even arrived, distribution would be sporadic.  It used to drive me nuts and I let off more than my share of rants.  Jesse James (another member of that forum) could probably attest the rants of myself and others who were left high and dry time and again while the same people always got the stuff.

Star Wars is a bit of a different story, however.  Items usually seem to show up in my area and do so timely.  I was able to get the Clone Wars Y-Wing within a week of the first sighting as well as the AT-STs and Dewbacks.  The TIE Interceptors and Gunships at TRU even showed up early.  There are more collectors that I have to contend with than when I collected the military items, so that makes tracking down some items a little trickier.  Overall, however, I have greater confidence that I will eventually see the new items somewhere and get what I want.

That said, at least two of the Wal Marts in my area now have the AT-STs in large endcap displays with 10 or more vehicles.  Dewback sets are in much smaller numbers.  So far, I've only seen two Dewback sets and got one of them.

I happily found the AT-ST today without having to go to a Wal Mart too far out of my way.  No sign of the dewback at that particular store, but the AT-ST was what I really wanted.  I also found some of the ROTJ wave, getting Major Panno and Nien Numb in the flight gear.
