30th Anniversary Collection / So What's Left Before Legacy/Clone Wars?
« on: February 18, 2008, 10:29 AM »
With all of the announcements and pics this weekend from Toy Fair (big thanks to Jeff and JD), it looks like the basic figure line will be getting a bit of a break from March until July 26th.  I thought it might be helpful to get a little "roundup" of what will be out there to look for in that time period, until the big Droid Factor and Clone Wars pushes start later this summer.  Off the top of my head, here's a few things, and please add in anything I'm not thinking of:

Basic Figures

Wave 1
001 Obi-Wan Kenobi
002 Darth Vader
003 Commander Gree
004 Kashyyyk Trooper
005 Tri Droid
006 2-1B
007 Po Nudo
008 Mustafar Panning Droid

Wave 2
009 Imperial Evo Trooper
010 Imperial Jump Trooper
011 Maris Brood
012 Battle Damaged Darth Vader
013 Rahm Kota
014 Imperial Shadow Guard
015 Juno Eclipse

Evolutions
Repacks (Anakin to Vader, Clone to Sandtrooper, Maul to Sidious)
The Jedi Legacy
The Sith Legacy
The Fett Legacy
The Force Unleashed Apprentice Set

Comic Packs
Lt. Jundland and Lt. Shan
Mouse and Able in Stormtrooper Disguise
Republic Commando and Super Battle Droid
Assaj Ventress and Tol Skorr
Anakin Skywalker and Durge
Others? (prior to July 26th?)

Battle Packs/Vehicles/Exclusives
Order 66 Packs (Target) - 6 of them
Aayla Secura's Jedi Starfighter (Target)
Battle Rancor with Felucian Rider (Target)
AT-AP
Grievous' Starfighter
Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter (Blue)
Anakin Skywalker's Jedi Starfighter (Green)
Droid Factory Sets (Wal-Mart) - 6 of them

I know there are other things I'm missing (not sure what other comic packs/battle packs are left prior to July?), but please feel free to add in anything else that's on the way (at least from the basic line, if nothing else).  With all the push-backs (Force Unleashed stuff) and everything, its hard to remember what's still coming this spring/early summer, and what is later.

Hall of Justice / DC Universe Infinite Heroes
« on: February 18, 2008, 09:50 AM »
It looks like Mattel has a pretty expansive 3 3/4" line coming up as well, known as Infinite Heroes.  They don't look quite as detailed as the larger figures, but seem to be decently articulated and include figures like Commissioner Gordon right off the bat.

With both of the specials last year (Family Guy: Blue Harvest and Robot Chicken: Star Wars), did you enjoy one over the other?  I liked them both. It was neat seeing the whole ANH movie covered in FG.  The animation on the ships looked great I thought, and would have worked nicely for an animated version of Star Wars probably.  It may have been since I watched the previews of FG online before it came out, but I think I might have laughed more at Robot Chicken.  I don't know if I prefer one to the other or not, but I am already looking forward to Something, Something, Something Darkside next season on FG.

Other Toy Lines / Heroes Figures
« on: January 10, 2008, 10:00 AM »
ToyNewsI has pics up of the first series of Heroes figures from Mezco Toys.  The lineup includes:  Sylar, Peter, Hiro, Claire, and Mohinder Suresh.  Pcs and info at the linky.  They don't look too bad, but I kind of put them in the same boat as the LOST figures/statues.  I like the show(s), but don't necessarily need the figures.  I wonder how lines like these do overall though.  I haven't looked in awhile, but the LOST ones seemed to be sitting at our TRU for awhile.

Hall of Justice / Batman The Dark Knight
« on: January 8, 2008, 08:50 AM »
ToyNewsI has a pic up of one of Mattel's upcoming "Movie Master" figures for The Dark Knight.  Apparently, this new line (Movie Masters) will be the place to find upcoming DC movie figures, all in the 6" scale (although there might be 5" lines as well, as there will be with TDK I believe).  From what I've read, there will be 6 figures released this year for The Dark Knight, with a few chase versions thrown in.

Watto's Junk Yard / 2008 Collecting Resolutions
« on: January 4, 2008, 11:28 AM »
I was listening to the Star Wars Action News podcast, and they were discussing resolutions that people are making relating to their collecting in the New Year.  I thought it might be interesting to see if anyone here is making any resolutions for 2008.  It seems like a lot of us got a little burnt out in the last couple years with the high number of releases, lines, exclusives, etc.  Is there anything you are changing this year - something you might be dropping out of, just spending less in general, spending more or adding new lines?  What are our resolutions for this year?

Personally, as I do every year, I'm resolving to spend less.  Although I did that a little bit last year, it wasn't nearly as much as I had hoped.  I don't know that I had ever bought each of the basic figures for an entire collection since the POTJ line, but with the coin madness, I did that last year (or will be shortly, as I'm a few figures short).  That was the wrong mindset to get into, and I'm hoping to break that this year.  I'm on the fence about the Force Unleashed figures right now, because although they do look nice, I likely won't be able to get/play the game for quite some time, and it might be an easy area for me to cut out and save a little bit of money.  Although I'm not as big of an army builder as many here, I'm thinking/hoping that will be cut back this year as well as I got my fill of those last year with a nice Stormtrooper, Snowtrooper, Biker Scout, and several clones that were fairly easily obtained.  I'm sure there will be more clones with the Clone Wars Series coming up, but I might be getting stocked up on other things for now.

I'm also going to try to stay away from other miscellaneous Star Wars stuff for right now.  There are still a lot of things that I'd like to get eventually (vintage era in particular), but to save money those are going on the backburner for now.  The only other line I hope to actively collect in the Star Wars area will be the Galactic Heroes, and even those won't be complete.  I need to take a harder look at "other" lines that I collect as well.  I've mostly focused on Marvel, but I've dabbled in DC, Joe, and even a couple Transformers as well.  Next year I think Marvel should be cut back, I'll get some DC, and likely Indy.  Joe will be pretty limited, if at all.  I like all of it, but just can't afford it all (or have the space for it).  Really, I'd like to limit myself to one "other" line, but I haven't gotten to that point yet.  I originally wanted to just collect Spidey and Batman, but that branched out to their entire universes eventually :).

Anyways, that's a few of the resolutions I'm hoping to make this year.  Overall, hopefully to just spend less, enjoy it more (and not stress about it), and organize my collection as the end of 2007 left a lot of stuff sitting in boxes for the time being.

30th Anniversary Collection / AFA and HasbroToyShop
« on: December 11, 2007, 02:33 PM »
Just a side note, but I was looking through HTS and noticed they now have two AFA Graded McQuarrie Obi/Yoda sets "coming soon" on there, for the prices of $79.99 and $129.99.  Personally, I've never been into the graded stuff, but I hope this isn't where HTS is headed.

The Original Trilogy / 1138 in ROTJ
« on: November 30, 2007, 12:09 PM »
This might be old news, but I was listening to the Force Cast and a week or two ago someone called in mentioning that Sideshow's 12" Boussh Leia had the number 1138 on the helmet, and called to ask if that was indeed taken from the real prop and was in the movie.  Steve Sansweet and Pete Vilmur looked into it and found out that yes, it is part of the actual movie prop that was used - so that's a reference to 1138 in ROTJ, if anyone didn't already know that officially.  I guess I hadn't heard that before, but maybe I just missed it.

30th Anniversary Collection / Best of 2007
« on: November 29, 2007, 04:27 PM »
Although the last few waves are still trickling out to retail, I thought it might be a good time to cover what some of your favorites were for this year.  I guess I'm sticking mainly to TAC stuff here, although we had the tail end of TSC this year as well.  Although it has been tough to keep up with everything (especially the last few months), to me this has been one of the best years yet for the quality of Star Wars figures.  A lot of good figures/etc., and some long-requested characters.  What are your favorites?

Basic Figures (including Vintage and Legends)
*Entire Vintage Lineup (Hoth Han, Bespin Luke, Snowtrooper, IG-88, Bossk, Endor Leia)
*All McQuarrie Figures
*Galactic Marine
*Mace Windu
*Super Battle Droid
*Death Star Trooper
*Rebel Honor Guard
*Luke Skywalker (mainly for the vaporator)
*Jawa and LIN Droid
*Animated Boba Fett
*Jedi Luke Skywalker
*CZ-4
*Hermi Odle
*Yoda w/Kybuck
*Roron Corobb
*Han w/Torture Rack
*4-LOM
*Romba and Graak
*Tycho Celchu

I could really list the majority of the lineup (which I pretty much have), but there weren't a lot of stinkers this year in my eyes.  I don't personally have either of the last two waves, but there's some more good ones in there as well.

*Saga Legends - AOTC Clone, Shocktrooper, VOTC Fett, Pit Droids, Sandtrooper, Biker Scout, TC-14, R4-I9, RA-7

Comic Packs
*Obi-Wan Kenobi and ARC Trooper
*Luke and Han Stormtrooper Figures (with some headswaps)
*Mara Jade and Luke Skywalker

Exclusives
*Target Order 66 Packs (repacks stink, but kind of a neat/affordable idea)
*McQuarrie Exclusives (price/exclusivity stinks, but figures are nice)
*Target Ultimate Battle Packs (not for everyone, but really a good deal for what you get.  I like Hoth in particular)
*R2-KT
*EE Mando/Elite Forces Packs (good price per figure, and kind of neat sets)

Vehicles
*V-Wing
*TRU Y-Wing Starfighter (one I was missing personally, and came with two pack in figures)
*Darth Vader Sith Starfighter (people are getting repainted starfighter out, but this is a pretty cool ship)

Battle Packs
*Again, Target Ultimate Battle Packs
*WM Treachery on Saleucami BP
*Target Ambush on Ilum BP
*Target ARC 170 BP (due to the new astro)
*Tantive IV (for the Stormies)

Other Lines
*Galactic Heroes - This line continues to impress me, I never thought we'd get this deep into character selection. Really the only "other" line I still actively collect - or can afford.
*The Coins - practically a line all to its own.  I know it has gotten me to buy a few figures that I probably normally would have skipped (especially with the budget crunch lately), because I want to complete that damn album :P.

I'm sure there are some things I'm missing/forgetting, but those are some off the top of my head.  Its been a pretty nice year for Hasbro stuff in general, not to mention some spiffy higher end things that I can't afford :).

30th Anniversary Collection / 2007 Exclusives - Which Are You Buying?
« on: November 19, 2007, 12:59 PM »
It looks like we're set for an avalanche of exclusives the last couple months of this year (not to mention more from the "basic" line).  This isn't an exhaustive list, but what I can remember off the top of my head, but which exclusives (if any) are you hoping/planning to pick up?

Target
TIE Bomber
ARC 170 (Clone Wars)
ARC 170 Battle Pack
AT-RT Battle Pack
Battle of Hoth Ultimate Battle Pack
Battle of Endor Ultimate Battle Pack
Jabba's Palace Galactic Heroes Pack
Death Star (X-Wing) Galactic Heroes Pack

Wal-Mart
Jabba's Band Battle Pack (Max Rebo Band)
Jabba's Band Battle Pack (Jabba's Dancers)
Comic Packs (Fett/DSD, Keller/Marine, Obi-Wan/Bail)
Cantina Galactic Heroes Pack 1
Cantina Galactic Heroes Pack 2

TRU
Battle of Hoth Galactic Heroes Pack
Battle of Naboo Galactic Heroes Pack
Y-Wing
TIE Interceptor (181st)
Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter w/Hyperspace Ring (2008?)

Online
EE 14 Figure Mandalorian/Elite Force Packs
7" Unleashed Trooper (Diamond)
Battlefront II Packs

I'm sure I'm missing a few, but how much of this stuff are you hoping to grab?  Here's my (tenative) list, depending on funds:

Target
TIE Bomber (missed earlier versions)
Battle of Hoth Ultimate Battle Pack
ARC 170 Battle Pack
Jabba's Palace Galactic Heroes Pack

Wal-Mart
Comic Pack (Fett/DSD and Keller/Marine)
Jabba's Palace (Max Rebo Band Set)

Maybes...

Battle of Endor Ultimate Battle Pack (if clearanced)
Jabba's Palace Battle Pack (Jabba's Dancers)
ARC 170 Fighter (Clone Wars)

I've already picked up the GH Hoth pack and Y-Wing from TRU, and the EE set should be on its way shortly as well.  Otherwise, its mostly Target stuff for me, and a couple things at WM.  Its going to be a crazy couple of months here for exclusives.

30th Anniversary Collection / General Battle Packs Discussion
« on: October 31, 2007, 10:30 AM »
Not that I am complaining, because there has been more than enough to spend money on the past few months, but it seems like battle packs have kind of hit a standstill around here.  I haven't seen any reports of the following hitting retail yet:

Clone Attack on Coruscant (repackaged)
Hunt for General Grievous (repackaged)
Betrayal on Bespin

The only ones I consistently see now are the Tantive and Dagobah packs, which are both nice, but have seemed to hang around for awhile now.  Anyone else seeing anything new from this line lately?

I was just looking through my "to do" list, and noticed, Target really has a ton of exclusives left to show up in the last two months of the years.  I'm wondering where all of these are going to go, although I'm sure an endcap or two will be involved.  From what I can remember, we've got these on the way:

TIE Bomber
ARC-170 Fighter (Clone Wars deco)
ARC-170 Battle Pack
AT-RT Battle Pack
Battle of Hoth Ultimate Battle Pack
Battle of Endor Ultimate Battle Pack
Galactic Heroes Jabba's Palace Cinema Scene
Galactic Heroes X-Wing Cinema Scene

There might be some others I'm not remembering, but that seems like quite a few to squeeze out in two months.  Plus the fact that many of them can't "fit" in the normal Star Wars aisle.  Like I said, some might be on their own endcap (the GH packs most likely, like last year), the "Ultimate" packs will probably be a limited endcap like the Shuttles, and then that leaves the vehicles/battle pack to fit in with the normal vehicle/battle pack section in the aisle I guess.  Just a heck of a lot of exclusives for one store in a two month span it seems.

Jocasta's Reading Room / Star Wars: A Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy
« on: October 26, 2007, 02:59 PM »
I'm not sure if anyone read about this book when they talked about it on Star Wars.com, but we ordered one via Amazon and received it today, and I have to say its pretty amazing.  I remember having a few pop-up books as a kid, and thought it might be a fun "Star Wars" book to share with our new little girl someday.  I haven't gotten a chance to go all the way through it yet, but its pretty amazing from what I've seen.  I'd definitely recommend it to anyone, especially those with kiddos.
