Other Toy Lines / Thundercats, Hoooo!!
« on: September 23, 2003, 03:42 PM »
At least that is what I remember the battle cry being :).  This was another toy/cartoon from the 80s that came up when my friend and I were talking about our childhoods the other day.  Did any of you have these figures as a kid (or even now)?  For some reason, I only had/have Panthro, who was my favorite...not sure why I didn't have more, I remember watching this show all the time (as well as another show called Silverhawks)...maybe it was just bad timing.  Anyways, I remember Cartoon Network used to show this show once in awhile when I was still in college...wouldn't mind seeing it make a comeback ala MOTU.  Anyways, I was just curious if anyone else remembers/liked this toy line/cartoon...and thought we could discuss it here.  I wouldn't mind seeing the toyline make a comeback in the Four Horseman style, although I don't know if I could afford buying would still be cool to see :).

Other Toy Lines / Does Anyone Remember "Gobots"?
« on: September 23, 2003, 03:13 PM »
Although I know they were pretty much a ripoff of Transformers, a friend of mine and I were talking about toys we had when we were growing up, and the Go-Bots came up in conversation.  Although I had Transformers too, I do remember having quite a few Go-Bots (probably because they were cheaper for my parents to get me for presents).  I even remember having some sort of a command center that many of them fit in.  It just got my nostalgia going and wondering if anyone of you had (or have) these.  They were a lot of fun for my friends and I back in the day.  I remember "Turbo" being my favorite.  Here is a site I came across while looking some information up (I'm sure there are some better ones too).  Just curious if any of you had/have these:

Saga '02-'04 / First Look at Jabba at GH
« on: September 20, 2003, 05:59 PM »
Galactic Hunter has posted the first picture (a fairly blurry one) of the upcoming Jabba the Hutt.  Kind of hard to tell exactly what it looks like from the picture, but we shouldn't have to wait too much longer to see it in the next issue of Insider.  Anyways, what do you guys think?

The Prequel Trilogy / A Few Episode III Pics (From TF.N forums)
« on: September 16, 2003, 05:16 PM »
Just happened to be strolling through's forums, and someone had posted this link, which has a few Episode III pics in it (including one of Anakin).  Sorry if you've already seen this, just thought I would post it just in case.  I'm getting psyched for this movie already, and we have such a long wait!

Saga '02-'04 / Anyone Use Entertainment Earth for Preorders?
« on: September 15, 2003, 05:06 PM »
I was just curious if any of you have or will use Entertainment Earth for any Star Wars preorders.  I personally have never ordered from them, but after seeing a post in another thread about preordering upcoming figures (such as Hoth Luke, etc.), I went to their site to check them out.  The only preordering I have ever done is this year through Kebco, and they didn't end up getting their cases (which is not their fault from what I have read).  But, although I am not usually impatient, I did preorder the figures in March, and still don't have them...but then again I haven't seen them in stores either.  I guess I just was wondering if any one service is better than the other, or if any of you have switched.  I know if you visit, they seem to get theirs from EE pretty quickly to review, etc., but maybe that is because of sponsorship or something too.  Anyways, I have heard in the past that their prices are high, but I see now in some instances they offer figure sets instead of whole cases, which would be pretty nice if the price isn't too bad.  Anyways, I was just curious if anyone has used them, and how you would rate their service (pricey? speedy? etc.)?  Thanks for any advice.

Saga '02-'04 / How Goes the Hunt?
« on: September 15, 2003, 04:08 PM »
Just curious how everyone's Star Wars hunts have been going lately.  It seems like there have been a few more reports here and there of people finding newer (or at least 2003) stuff in stores lately, as well as some things being offered online (specifically  What have you been able to find lately (if anything)?  Personally, this is what has been showing up around here as of late:

I saw my first 2003 figures near me the other day, seeing the research droids, DF Padme, and a repackaged KE Jango.  I didn't get any of them, already had the Padme from Kebco.  Also, found the Clone Wars 3-packs at a Target, picked up the blue clone one.  My brother (who lives about an hour away) found WA-7, repacked Vader, Emperor, Dannl Faytonni, Coleman Trebor, and Wat Tambor for me, which I was pretty happy about.  I also got notification that my Battle of Hoth has shipped from  Otherwise, I personally haven't seen a whole lot of new product, but a few things are trickling here and there...or at least within a couple of hours I guess.  I have also seen many of the Clone Wars ships (Gunship, Jedi Starfighter, AAT).  Still waiting on preorders through Kebco for Hoth Han (the figure I probably want the most from this year), Mynock Chewie, Yoda/Chian, Ashla/Jempa, TR Luke and Vader, and the Snowtrooper.  Hopefully they will get their shipment in soon.  I've also considered preordering Aayla and Barriss, since they have them up again, although I'm currently holding out hope that I can get them for retail (yeah right). are things going for you?  I hope you are all finding what you are looking for.

Other Toy Lines / Taking a Look at the Toy Aisle...
« on: September 15, 2003, 10:46 AM »
Over the past week or so, I had the chance to visit a few different retail/toy stores and take a look at the toy aisle.  I thought it might be nice to have a thread to discuss current setups and/or trends in the toy aisles in your respective areas.  As far as what I saw around here (I visited 2 Wal-Marts, 2 Targets, a TRU, and K-B), here are a few observations:

Star Wars:  Wal-Marts were set up as we heard, basic figures only, six well as lightsabers.  Unfortunately, most was old product, although one store did have the research droids and DF Padme.  Targets didn't have much for basic figures (actually a new Greatland Target that opened about a month ago has been pretty good about toys, found the Scenes there a couple weeks ago, but now they have Clone Wars ships, red clonetroopers, and some empty space.  TRU pegs have been packed with Pilot Jangos for months, although they do have the Officer/Han/Lando 12" wave there, as well as Luke/Sidious/Obi Unleashed.  KB doesn't have any new product, just the four packs, $1.99 2002 figures, etc.

Other Observations...

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is really getting a lot of space in the stores around here.  Is it because they are being pushed hard, selling well, or both?  I had a few of these back in the day, but I'm not collecting the current line.  Too bad though, looks like you could find about all of them right now, wouldn't that be nice with other lines? :)

MOTU has been the same for the most part around here, 1 Target and 1 Wal-Mart have completely dropped the line for now, the other two still have it...with mostly older figures.  I'm hoping Roboto will show up in the stores.  Overall though, the line doesn't have a whole lot of space, probably average.

Surprisingly, it doesn't seem like LOTR has a whole lot of room, but this will probably increase as ROTK gets closer.  TRU had mostly ROTK Smeagol/Gollum repacks, and one of the new Treebeards (as well as several figures from the other movies).  Target has the first wave of ROTK figures, as well as some AOME stuff.  Wal-Marts around me didn't really have much representing this line, just a few figures here and there.  K-B about the same.

Marvel Legends...I was so happy when my wife found me Gambit and Beast right when they were released (around my b-day), but this weekend I saw almost every wave of ML so far in mass.  I didn't see a whole lot of Gambits, but everything else was pretty plentiful (I didn't dig for chase figures or anything like that though).  Hopefully it will be as easy to find Colossus, etc. in Dec/Jan whenever these come out.

Well, there are other lines to discuss as well, but this is getting long enough.   I just think it is interesting sometimes to see how much space is taken up by certain toy lines, what "seems" to be selling, etc.  I guess I was most surprised by the big space TMNT has at these stores...not that I have any problem with that line, I was just a little surprised.  They seemed to have the most space of any individual line by far around here.  Any other observations?

Saga '02-'04 / Retail 2004: How Do You Think It Will Be?
« on: September 10, 2003, 05:52 PM »
With all of the problems many (or most) of us have had finding figures at retail in 2003, do you think things will change for next year?  Personally, there are a lot of figures being shown and/or rumored that I really don't want to miss out on...but its always nicer to find them in the store for retail price.  I have finally seen 2003 figures at retail in the past two weeks, spotting a DF Padme, Flying R2, Research Droids, and a repacked Jango Fett KE so far.  I also found the first two Screen Scene sets, but only had enough $ to pick up the Jedi Council one, and all were gone a week later when I came back.  Also, my brother was nice enough to pick up WA-7, Emperor, Wat Tambor, repacked Vader, Coleman Trebor, and Dannl Faytonni (he lives about an hour away from me) I was thinking maybe retail might be starting to improve...even here in Nebraska.  But, things still aren't great, and I know others have had problems still.  I'm still trying to catch up on everything from 2003 (waiting on preorders from Kebco).  I have noticed however that even if stores don't have the latest figures, the old ones have at least been cleared out (there's usually almost nothing there period, at least for basic figures).  Anyways, long story short, do you think things will clear up towards the end of this year and early next year?  I don't know about everyone else, but really the basic figures have been the biggest problems around here.  I have seen the Luke/Sidious/Obi Wan Unleashed wave a few times, the Council Scenes once, the 12" Han/Lando/Officer wave once, and all of the Clone Wars ships (just saw the multipacks this week too).  Do you think retail will shape up in time for us to find great upcoming figures like Hoth Luke, Wampa, C-3PO, Rieekan, etc.?  Good luck to all of you on your searches.

Other Toy Lines / Has This Ever Happened to You?
« on: September 3, 2003, 04:06 PM »
Do you ever find that you end up taking certain figure lines further than you originally intended?  For example, when I first got back into Star Wars collecting, it was around the time of Episode the time I thought I'd just pick up a few figures (Obi Wan, Maul, 3PO, R2, Yoda, Qui-Gon), but I ended up diving in and getting not all...but well over 30 from that line.  Around that same time I also picked up the Commtech Han and Luke, thinking they were pretty cool, and I just thought I'd pick up the main a few years later my collection is littered with Amanaman, Duro, BoShek, etc., and anyone else I can find :).  With my vintage Star Wars collecting it was just going to be the ones I had as a kid (around 20 or so probably), but now I find myself trying to get a complete loose collection.  Also, with other toy lines (why I originally posted this here), I find myself wanting at first to just pick up a figure or two...but then changing my mind and thinking I need more.  First it was Marvel Legends...just Wolverine I thought...then I saw Beast, and also got Gambit and Magneto...and now want all the X-men releases in the future.  Next it was MOTU, first it was just He-Man (and maybe Skeletor), then it was all the ones I had as a kid only, now I'm thinking I'd like to get all of the regular figures (without exclusives, variants).  I've also been on the fence with LOTR for some time.  First I thought, just a Smeagol and maybe a I'm thinking about picking up the 9-pack, a Smeagol, and a few of the ROTK figures if I see them.  Sometimes I'm scared to start a line because I know I'll end up wanting lots of it :).  Has anyone else had experiences like this?

Joe Defender / Valor vs Venom
« on: August 25, 2003, 01:23 PM »
Although I don't currently collect this line, I do look what they have out from time to time (since it was one of my favorites lines as a kid other than SW and MOTU)...and I did pick up the black Snake-Eyes/Cobra Commander 2 pack last year.  I know there are some collectors on this board who are interested in Joes, past or present, so I thought we could start a thread here to discuss them if anyone wanted to.  Plus, I just watched the "music video" for the new G.I. Joe - Spy Troops movie that is coming to Cartoon Network, and I'd have to say it looks kind of cool...keeping some of the general looks of the old characters, similar to MOTU, but with a few more changes I guess.  Anyways, here's the link, if anyone would like to see it:

Other Toy Lines / Why Do You Collect?
« on: August 22, 2003, 09:31 AM »
Judging by the site we are on, we all know why we collect Star Wars figures, legos, or other it nostalgia, the love of the movies, etc.  But, I was curious why you might collect other lines.  The other day I was talking with my wife about collecting the MOTU line, needless to say she wasn't overly enthused about the idea of another toyline creeping into our house, and she asked me why I wanted to collect them.  For me, I guess it was kind of hard to explain...I don't "play" with them, I don't "need" them necessarily, I just enjoy it and I suppose a lot of it is nostalgia with that line as well.  I'm still not sure if I'm going to be (or be able to) collect another line like this, and I suppose there is more than enough Star Wars stuff out there for me to collect, and that is my first collecting love and comes before any of the other lines.  I guess my question is, why do you collect the "other" lines?  Am I the only one who looks sometimes at these "toys" (aside from Star Wars) sitting on my desk and wonder, why, really, do I buy these?  Not that I don't think many of the other lines we all collect aren't great, because they are, but I do sometimes wonder why...I guess its hard to explain :).  I was just wondering what some of your explanations are...thanks :).

Saga '02-'04 / Do Any of Your Figures Get "Replaced"?
« on: August 21, 2003, 01:19 PM »
Although much of it is due to my lack of displaying space, over the past couple of years many of my earlier figures (POTF2 mainly) have been replaced as the superior sculpting of POTJ and some of the Saga figures have come along.  I have had to pack away figures such as the original buff Han, Vader, Chewie, Stormtrooper, etc., as they have been replaced by different versions.  Although all of the figures are great, and I am glad that POTF2 started and brought our figures back...but they just don't look quite right in the display next to many of the newer versions.  Have any of you done this...either had to pack away certain figures, or replaced certain versions?  I know I do currently have both the POTF2 and Saga Bespin Lukes on display, because I think both look pretty good.  Anyways, anyone else had to do this?

Saga '02-'04 / Your Best of 2003
« on: August 20, 2003, 01:23 PM »
Although many of us (myself included) haven't found much of the 2003 product, for those of you who have, or by judging from online pictures..which figures are you happy and/or satisified with from this year so far.  I think the 2003 figures have taken quite a beating (much of it justified IMO), and it hasn't seemed like there have been many figures people are happy about.  I also think that this year has seemed to kill the fun for many completists, and even some Star Wars collectors totally.  I know some figures that I was initially excited about (Throne Room Luke primary among them), I have been disappointed in now reading other reviews and seeing more detailed pictures.  I personally am really looking forward to receiving Hoth Han, the Yoda with Younglings, Pit of Carkoon Boba Fett, and the Snowtrooper when my Kebco order ships...but what are your favorites of this year so far?  From what we have seen 2004 could be a banner year for Star Wars collecting, and a return to the type of figures we have been waiting for (classic trilogy, mix of core and background characters, POTJ style sculpting, more articulation).  I guess my question, if you weren't a completist, or weren't starving for new figures due to the drought, which figures from the year 2003 (so far) would you still have bought?

Saga '02-'04 / E-mail from Kebco
« on: August 19, 2003, 04:25 PM »
Maybe this is older news to many of you (and I know some of you have found these figures already, but I haven't), but I wrote Kebco to ask about my preorder for Hoth Han, Mynock Chewie, etc., and this is the reply I got:

> The Han Hoth, Chewbacca Mynock, Luke and Vader
> Throne Room, Snowtrooper wave
> (A00B) has also now been cancelled on all remaining
> orders from Hasbro.
> These same figures will be in more waves due in
> September. I know you guys
> are tired of hearing about delays, but there is
> nothing we can do about it.
> We have more than enough figures on order for
> September if you can wait.
I guess September isn't too bad, but I was kind of disappointed, I've really been looking forward to that Hoth Han figure (I've had it preordered since March).  Anyways, I know that many of you are in the same boat, but I wasn't sure if you knew about the cancellation of this wave for now.  If I found them in the stores or online for the same price, I'd cancel my preorder, but they do charge half up front when you preorder so I guess I'll just wait it out.  Just thought I'd let people know :).

Watto's Junk Yard / The Packaging Issue...
« on: August 12, 2003, 03:34 PM »
I wasn't sure if this belonged here or in the Other Toy section, or even in the Saga section....but it kind of covers a number of lines.  My question deals with the packaging...boxes, cards, etc.  Do you keep it?  If so, do you keep it all, some of it, only certain lines...or why do you (or do you not) keep it?  Personally, I have kept the majority of my packaging....card backs (only ones that have different backs), no bubbles, ship and beast boxes (but flattened)...but, I'm not exactly sure why I keep them.  Until we are able to move to a different house, my wife and I are kind of running out of space to even display my collection, let alone keep the packages.  I suppose I should just throw them all away, not much reason to keep them, but for some reason I just don't.  What do you do with your packaging?  Just curious to see some thoughts and opinions.  Thanks :).
