Saga '02-'04 / Cloth or Plastic?
« on: December 2, 2003, 05:05 PM »
I hope that this doesn't become a heated debate or anything, and I'm sorry if this topic is repetitive.  After looking at the preview over at GH of the new Jedi Luke, it got me to thinking about what some of your opinions are on the plastic or cloth cape, cloak, etc. issue.  I guess I'm staying on both sides, because I don't have problems with either way I guess.  However, I think sometimes I seem to gravitate towards cloth a little (maybe because of nostalgia from the vintage line).  Although I admit that it doesn't always sit or "lay" correctly or realistically on the figure (even the Jedi Luke doesn't, or one that many people like...POTJ Lando...it doesn't necessarily look "realistic" but still good).  I guess I had the same problem with my vintage Jedi Luke, and it didn't bother me then.  I also like the use of cloth on the screen scenes Mace and Yarael, I think it looks fairly good, and allows them to sit.  I'm also one that is hoping if there is an Endor Han next year, his poncho is cloth like the vintage, as long as it looks decent.  I don't really have a problem with plastic capes, etc. either, until I recently received my Throne Room Duel Vader from Kebco.  I don't know about you guys, but this figure is next to impossible to stand, or put the helmet on the same time as the cape, etc.  I don't know if I have honestly ever been quite as frustrated with displaying a figure.  But, then I also picked up the Death Star Clash Vader (or whatever its called, the one from the MOTDS two pack that was recently re-released), and I think this Vader looks great, the cloth cape hangs nicely, etc.  Anyways, I can see both sides of it...but I was wondering what some of your opinions are.  Are you plastic all the way? cloth all the way? a little bit of both? or don't care? :)

Watto's Junk Yard / 10 Star Wars Questions...
« on: November 25, 2003, 09:27 AM »
After reading the great "12 facts about yourself" thread, I thought it might be nice to see everyone's personal tastes for our favorite movie saga.  Here's just a few questions, pretty general, that I thought of this morning...if you have any to add, feel free :).

1. Favorite Movie of the Saga

2. Favorite Character(s) of the Saga
    2a.  OT-Good Guy?
    2b.  OT-Bad Guy?
    2c.   PT-Good Guy?
    2d.   PT-Bad Guy?

3. Prequels or Originals?

4. Favorite Saga-Related thing to Collect (if any)

5. Favorite Item in Your Collection (if any)

6. Favorite Ship, Vessel, Bike, etc.

7. Favorite Planet

8. First Star Wars movie you saw in the Theatre

9. Favorite Color of Lightsaber

10. Favorite Song from the Saga

Bonus Questions :): Favorite Fett (Jango or Boba)?
Favorite New Jedi (from Prequels I guess)

For me, here's my answers:

1. Empire Strikes Back, sometimes Return of the Jedi depending on mood

2. Han Solo and Chewbacca
2a. Han/Chewie, otherwise Yoda, Luke, Droids
2b. Darth Vader or Boba Fett
    2c. Yoda, Obi Wan
2d. Eventually Anakin/Vader :P, Maul and Dooku were both cool though too.

3. Like them All, but Partial to Originals

4. Most 3 3'4" Product (Figures, Vehicles, Beasts) and Unleashed

5. Not Sure, lots of Favorites...I guess I'll say either my vintage Trenchcoat Han (remember looking for/buying this figure when I was a kid), or my POTJ Bespin Capture Han, because it was a gift from my wife that she really looked for for me :)

6. Millenium Falcon

7. Tatooine or Dagobah

8. Return of the Jedi (1983), I was almost 7

9. Green

10. Main Theme, Imperial March (the easy ones I guess)

Bonus: Boba
Plo Koon, Kit Fisto, Mace Windu

Other Toy Lines / Which Lines Do You Think "Do the Best"?
« on: November 19, 2003, 03:45 PM »
I got to thinking about this earlier today, and while out shopping, collecting, or just scanning the action figure aisles, which lines do you think are doing well...selling wise?  Including Star Wars, Clone Wars, Turtles, Marvel Legends, Gi Joe, MOTU, LOTR, Muppets, Simpsons, or any other lines you might take a look at.  Do you think there are any lines in particular that really seem to be doing well, or ones that you think are probably on their way out due to sales, etc.?  Personally, I mainly just collect Star Wars, and the X-Men from ML (and I'm also looking for Roboto), but I do take a look at other lines from time to time...there are a lot of great ones.  Just curious as to some of your opinions, thanks!

Saga '02-'04 / Do You Display Your Figures with all Their "Stuff"?
« on: November 19, 2003, 09:46 AM »
Since the beginning of the Saga line, it seems Hasbro has gotten a little more generous with the accessories included with the basic figures.  For those of you who do open them up to display, do you include all the accessories with the figure, or do you just pick what you like to display them with?  Personally, partially because of space, I don't put out all of the accessories with my figures.  A few examples....Yoda Jedi Master....just his lightsaber, no "levitating" base of his cane, but then with the Yoda with Younglings I have him on his chair with his cane only.  Just personal preference I guess.  Also, I dont have the satellite thingy from Padme Pilot out, or the suitcase/box thing from the OPD Anakin, or the removable panels 3PO.  These are just a few examples, but I was wondering if you display your figures with all of their goodies, or just the ones you like.

Watto's Junk Yard / Any of You "Work from Home"?
« on: November 17, 2003, 12:18 PM »
I know sometimes with technology these days, many jobs have been allowed to be done from your home.  Recently, the company I work for has given some of us the opportunity to do that if we want to (since our work is done on the computer/through internet).  I was just curious if any of you do that, or have had that opportunity...and what your feelings on it were?

Saga '02-'04 / Do You Have a Favorite Character(s) To Collect?
« on: November 10, 2003, 10:00 PM »
Although I know many of us are completists, semi-completists, OT fans, or PT fans, I was curious if any of you have favorite character or characters that you really look forward to, even if there are multiple versions, or maybe only one version.  If you only had room for a collection of your favorite character, or characters, who would it/they be?  For me personally, I like almost all of the Star Wars universe...with some preference toward OT characters.  Although I like them all...Vader, Luke, Leia, Yoda, R2, 3PO, etc....for me its always about Han and Chewie.  I think I have and would buy almost every version of those characters that are released for the most part.  But...I do appreciate the background characters as well, and the whole Star Wars universe...but when it comes down to it that duo is probably my favorite.  Do any of you have "favorites"?

Saga '02-'04 / Who's Preordering for late 2003/2004?
« on: October 28, 2003, 11:49 AM »
I was curious how many of you are preordering the figure waves for 2004 (or late 2003).  With the dismal retail year we had this past year, I found myself ordering quite a bit from Kebco, and have been able to fill in most of the remaining holes in my collection thanks to the kind people on these boards.  With some of the waves up for preorder on numerous sites (Hoth Wave, Tatooine wave, Ultra figures, etc.), I have been tempted to preorder these figures again, although I would much rather be able to find them at retail.  Its always nice when you find the figures on your own, and pay a little bit less.  But, at the same time, I really don't want to risk missing out on the great OT offerings for 2004.  I was just curious how many of you will start, or continue, to preorder...or if you are going to try your luck with the stores?

TV-9D9 / Clone SCUBA Trooper
« on: October 27, 2003, 03:56 PM »
I'm usually not much for expanded universe, but this Clone Wars cartoon looks to be shaping up to be pretty cool.  I noticed that the Star Wars official site has been adding more and more CW information lately, and at their "Inside Clone Wars" page, they have some pics and information on some of the characters, vehicles, etc. from the cartoon micro-series.  One new one I noticed was the Clone Scuba Trooper, which I think looks kind of cool.  Has anyone else taken a look at these, and if so, what do you think of them?

Jocasta's Reading Room / Opinions on Infinities?
« on: October 9, 2003, 03:07 PM »
I was curious what any of you comic readers' opinions were on the Infinities series.  From what I understand, the Return of the Jedi Infinities will be starting fairly soon, and from what I have read about this series of books, they sound kind of interesting.  I thought about going back to check out the Empire Strikes Back trade paper back of these, as well as the New Hope ones.  I was just curious if any of you have them, or have read them, and if you enjoyed them?

Modern Classifieds / WTB: Santa Yoda and/or 2003 MOTU Roboto
« on: October 6, 2003, 02:21 PM »
Updated, thanks to JediMAC, I should be getting caught up with most of my Star Wars figures needs.  However, I am now looking to buy a Santa Yoda (as well as Roboto).  I did get my lightspeed pass on Monday, however, my wife and I only have a Discover credit card...which they do not accept....I was wondering if anyone out there who might not be ordering/needing all four for themselves might be able to order one for me.  I'd be happy to pay full price, shipping, etc.  Thanks for any help.  Also, still looking for 2003 MOTU Roboto, if anyone happens across one.

Power of the Jedi / 25th Anniversary Sets - Opened or Boxed?
« on: October 6, 2003, 12:52 PM »
I was curious how many of you have your 25th Anniversary sets displayed.  Personally, I open everything I buy...figures, ships, beasts, etc....but for some reason I have left these boxed so far.  I guess I just like how they look in the packaging.  But, I have been thinking about opening them up for space reasons as well.  How do you have yours displayed....and if you do have them opened up, are they able to be opened in a way that you could put them back in the box if you wanted to?  Thanks!

Saga '02-'04 / Any Purchases You Regret?
« on: October 6, 2003, 11:18 AM »
After recently reorganizing my collection a week or so ago, I got to looking at some of my figures, and kind of wondering why I bought a few things.  Do any of you have any purchasing regrets....whether it be that you overpaid for a certain item in retrospect, or you maybe purchased a figure because it was the ONLY new thing you have seen in months, or maybe a certain figure was an "impulse buy"?  I noticed a few figures that I had purchased that ended up being either packed away, or tucked in the back of the display it seems.  Here's a few that caught my eye, personally:

"Total Control" Mace Windu - Ok, it is kind of fun to play with, and honestly, I never would have gotten this figure but for the fact that I hadn't seen anything for awhile, and I had read quite a few reviews from people saying it wasn't that bad, and was pretty fun to play with.  I only paid retail for it, but looking back now, and with the space issues I have, it probably wasn't necessary.

Anakin vs. Geonosian Deluxe - This was one of those periods where I hadn't seen much new for awhile, and I was still all hyped up from Episode II.  I really don't know why I bought this...the Anakin is horrible, and I don't even have either of these figures displayed now.

Jedi Council Yoda - I buy every Yoda figure pretty much, since he's one of my favorites...so I guess in some ways I don't regret it...but looking at the figure now, it just doesn't seem like that great of a figure...and a rehash to boot anyways.

Tusken w/ Massiff - Ok, not a horrible figure, but it is tucked back behind the Republic Gunship right now due to lack of room.  Also, another rehash...and the newer Saga version of the Tusken (removable head one), is so much better IMO.

C-3PO with Removable Panels - Again, not terrible I guess...has some fun "play value" to some extent.  I am always a sucker for characters that were in the OT as well too...but this is another figure that gets "tucked to the back"

For a non-Saga example: I once paid $20 for an Episode I Obi-Wan (soft goods skirt), only to see this figure at K-B about two weeks later for $1.99.  Ouch :).

Since this is getting long, a few others that get "tucked away":

4/23 Padme Arena
OPD Anakin
Geo Rescue Mace

Anyways, have any of you ever experienced any situations like this?
