Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Vintage OTC Figures
« on: August 9, 2004, 09:16 AM »
Congrats on the finds Scott, really looking forward to both of those figures (Vader/Yoda)...well, and Luke for that matter.  I checked TRU a couple of times this weekend after reading your finds, but the one here in town doesn't even have a peg for the VOTC anymore.  In fact, there doesn't seem to be any actual "figures" from the OTC/VOTC in town anymore.  Everything else (Jedi Council sets, Falcon, X-Wing, TIE, Vader's TIE, buddies) have shown up (and seem to keep sitting), but otherwise its been bought up and not replaced.  Hopefully we'll start seeing more and more of this stuff soon though.

Oh...and I was wondering, what do you think of the Yoda?  Best ever (modern) or do you prefer the OTC Dagobah version (or a different one) to this one?  Just curious, congrats again on the finds!

That's what I thought too Brent, just a weird trade.  Doesn't seem to make the most sense either way, but who knows.  Definitely out of left field though.

Well, it looks like the Lakers' Shakeup continues....

Celtics Receive:

Gary Payton
Rick Fox
Future 1st Rounder
cash

Lakers Receive:

Chris Mihm
Marcus Banks
Chucky Atkins
future 2nd rounder

This one kind of came out of nowhere, at least to me, I hadn't heard any rumblings of this trade otherwise.

C- Vlade/Mihm
F- Grant/Odom/Slava/Malone?
F- Butler/George/Walton
G- Kobe/Rush
G- Banks/Atkins

Definitely a different team next season for ya Matty.  I wonder if this will affect the Mailman's decision, seeing GP shipped off as well?

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Dagobah wave
« on: August 6, 2004, 03:25 PM »
I've finally had the opportunity (yesterday) to open up the Dagobah wave (except for Luke, haven't opened that one yet), and I really think this wave looks pretty nice overall.  Although some might not like it, I think the "spirit" effect of Obi-Wan worked out well, and I really like how this figure looks.  The R2 is pretty basic, since there is no third leg, but the deco is nice, and I really dig the sounds as well.  Cool toy.  I feel that the Yoda is the best we have seen so far.  I'm not sure how the VOTC one will be in person (looks pretty good online), but I think they did a pretty nice job on this one as well.  I still think some improvement can be made on the facial sculpt of their Yoda figures, but comparing it to the POTF2 versions, it looks pretty good..and the scale of the figure is much better.  He's quite wee, as he should be.  The display bases with this wave are pretty cool too.  Again, the figures aren't necessarily "perfect", but are actually quite good I think.  Although I am more excited about the VOTC line in general, the new OTC offerings aren't bad either...and really make you think about whether or not that $10 pricetag is right with the VOTC (although sculpt, articulation is superior on those figures).  Anyways, pretty cool wave, just rambling on..... ;)

Openers is a good way to go with these I think, they just look so much better out in the open.  I really enjoy this line, but have limited it to OT since they take up a bit of space.  Plus, since they have changed the cardbacks, the artwork is pretty amazing as well.  I've been carefully keeping all the backs, with hopes of displaying all of them with the art behind them.  The one catch...I picked up the Jedi Luke on the old backs...so I'd be one short :(.  We'll see, maybe I'll have to nix that idea, or maybe it wouldn't look that great anyways.  At least that is what I'll tell myself ;).  Overall, neat line to collect I think, different interpretations of our favorite characters...I hope it continues for awhile.

Other Collectibles / Upcoming Playskool Jedi Force Line
« on: August 6, 2004, 10:18 AM »
Just looking through some news stores at the Star Wars Official Site, and was reminded of the Jedi Force line.  As best I can recall, we didn't hear/see anything new on these at Comic-Con, or even since the intial announcement of the line.  Any news on these?  Also, are any of you going to pick these up if/when they make it to retail?  I've really enjoyed the smaller, "cuter", Galactic Heroes line (although the newer ones haven't shown up here yet), and thought I would just limit it to that one.  I have gone back and forth on the JediForce line.  I originally said no, but the Vader/Chewie/Droids look kind of neat.  I guess it depends on some things, just curious if any of you were interested in these as well?  I don't know if I can/should bring "another" line into the fold, and I don't think I'd give up Galactic Heroes to bring these in.  I really hope the GH line continues for awhile.

Kubricks / Re: Kubricks and Minimates

Some news notes via the Art Asylum Forums regarding the various minimate lines.  Included is the mention of LOTR Series 3, with the possibility of doing a "C3" type of thing so that beasts can be included in the line.  Also some mentions of Marvel and Trek 'mates.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: Vintage OTC Figures

Just saw that too, thanks for posting.  It sounds like he has a pop-up sensorscope and removable middle leg in addition to the other plug in gadgets.  Nice to see that make a return.  As I think someone said earlier, these ROTJ cards don't look quite the same as the originals.  I know that they aren't exactly copies, but I notice it in the logo.  Anyways, we've now seen them all, featured at Hasbro's site.  Too bad this line isn't going a wave or two further ;).

Many of you may have already seen this, but I noticed that the Jedi Temple Archives visual guides have some pics up of the VOTC Yoda and Vader, providing some different views that we haven't seen before.  Looks like Vader's "chain" sure sticks out in that side view :).  Kind of digging the cloth on the Yoda, for the vintage/nostalgic aspect, but it does look slightly bulky too...but not too bad.  Anyways, you can check out the pics HERE under the "retro collection" section on the right hand side, at the top.  Really looking forward to these figures.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: VOTC/OTC Purchases
« on: August 5, 2004, 11:12 AM »
Just curious, is everyone able to find what they are looking for from the VOTC/OTC lines?  I was fortunate enough to find the 7 new OTC figures the first week they were released here (but haven't seen them, or any others, since).  I ordered the VOTC first three through Amazon, and did see the same wave at TRU here in town once, but they were sold out in a day (did grab an extra Han though).  I have read lots of reports of people finding the VOTC in different locations now, do you think they will be as tough to get a hold of as we worried they would be?  Are they selling through where you are seeing them?  We've only had them at TRU here (once) so far, and sold out...but I know others have seen them at Target, Wal-Mart, etc.  Hopefully the ESB and ROTJ waves won't be impossible to locate.  Just curious how it was looking in your areas now...last time I checked (Tuesday), things had all but dried up OTC wise in town (other than multiple "Ask Yodas" and Jedi Council sets at TRU).

Thanks for posting that Nick.  Man, that Stormtrooper looks pretty cool.  I'm really digging this line right now, and this looks like one of the best ones yet.

Original Trilogy Collection / Setting the Bar
« on: August 4, 2004, 05:43 PM »
Although there are still a few shortcomings in many of our eyes with the recent VOTC releases, overall these are some of the best figures we have likely seen in the modern line.  While some figures can be improved upon (C-3PO with more articulation - knees at least, a "tricked out" R2-D2, etc.), some of the others look to be at their best.  I was just thinking about this today, has Hasbro really set the bar as high as it can be for some of these figures?  For example, are figures from the VOTC such as Han Solo, Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Stormtrooper, and Boba Fett as good as they can be?  Since Hasbro's current stance seems to be "no way" on re-releasing these figures later on, I wonder how they can release these characters in the lineups in the future (at least in these specific outfits/incarnations) without them seeming "dull" in comparison to these VOTC versions.  I mean, "New Hope" Han, Vader, Fett, Chewie...these are a few of Hasbro's favorite "main characters" to keep on the pegs.  While there are other routes they can take with some of these characters (new Endor and/or Stormtrooper Han for example), can these particular versions be improved upon?  Unless there is something added on, I don't see what would drive anyone to pick up a New Hope style Han Solo in the future, if it isn't this current Vintage Original Trilogy Collection version.  Anyways, just something I was thinking about, and curious as to some of your thoughts.

Thanks for keeping these visual guides up to date Scott.  They sure do look nice all together like that, don't they? (both OTC and VOTC)

Thanks for posting that Scott...Hasbro is on a roll with the updates this week, but I'm not complaining.  This is a figure I'm really looking forward to.  Looks like it will accompany Han well, and I don't see any real problems with our favorite Wookiee here.  The articulation and sculpt both look great to me at least.  I don't know that they can improve on Chewie too much more, between this version and the Cloud City one from the Saga line.  Both look pretty good to me.
