Star Wars Universe / How did you spend your May the fourth?
« on: May 7, 2012, 06:21 AM »
Just wondered if any of you guys commemorated the day in any way? I watched an episode of droids, followed by a Revenge of the Sith/New Hope double bill and finally entered the world of online collecting... my card got a serious work out... hope you all had a good one...

I picked up Chewie with the new paint job... it really makes me wish I had an animated Han Solo to go with him.

I wonder if you guys can help me out with some info on the pod racers as I don't own their previous releases. Is it possible to have the part where the driver sits displayed as if it's on the ground rather than mid flight... without permanently damaging the vehicle?

Many thanks

The gungan is really nice, as well as the  torso, his head is  an all new sculpt as well. Although this guy doesn't sport the extra skin detail of the old Episode I gungans, it looks like they've had a go at it on the Movie heroes Jar Jar.

I was really disappointed in what the Phantom Menace had to offer when it was released, but it's really grown on me over the years. I'm looking forward to watching it at the cinema and actually enjoying it.

The second wave of these showed up here in the UK, I pulled the trigger on Qui Gon and Obi Wan with the light up sabers and the Jar Jar.

For the curious, the Jedi heads are not directly exchangeable to their vintage counterparts, some modifications to neck posts or heads would be necessary, not to mention skin tone issues. Both heads are superior though, particularly the Qui Gon in my opinion. The colors of theirs Jedi garb also seem more accurate.

Both have the same level of articulation:

Ball jointed head
Swivel shoulders (the lightsaber arm only swivels part way)
Ball jointed left elbow
Swivel left wrist
Swivel hips
Ball jointed knees

Both also have removable lower tunics, presumably so they can sit.
The lightsabers are very bright but the batteries are non replaceable according a disclaimer inside the packaging, so go easy on that dueling. I'm really surprised they haven't released a Maul with the same feature... surely kids are going to want someone to fight... maybe he's coming later.

Overall the gimmick is nice for kids, I guess it's 2012's version of the telescoping saber, but it would have been nice if these heads had turned up on the vintage versions

Jar Jar has a strange head joint, it's kind of like  a tiny loose ball joint inside the neck that gives the head a kind of tilting motion, which looks good from the angle it's tilted towards and awful from others. He's also got a swivel waist and shoulders and jointed wrists and knees. As I don't own any previous versions of  him I felt compelled to pick him up, but I'm hoping the vintage one rumored, is going to have more going for it. The weapon he came with has got some serious power.

The projectile is still at large somewhere in my living room.

The Naboo guard is another good head swap for the rebel fleet trooper.

Compared to the other five, I hardly have any figures from this film, so I'm looking forward to getting most of these bar the repacks.

They've really gone to town on that Neimodian, I'd like to see a new version of Gunray done like this.

What is that gadget on the floor next to the binocs in the first Maul Picture?

Nice review on the trooper Jesse, I didn't know you still did them. I was a lurker on JD for  over a  year before I joined, and I used to check in to read your reviews. I was new to collecting the modern stuff and it was a great way to find out what was worth tracking down. Good effort on the two handed pose but not quite what I was after... that pose of the dead trooper is classic though.

I've only managed to get two so far, but I'd like to get quite a few more. I love the colors of his uniform, they seem a dead match for the film.

I really like the new fleet trooper, but if they make any modifications in the future, it would be great if he could hold a blaster in that classic two hand grip.... and maybe add that slight indent on the back of his thighs like the recent Dengar... it makes for great kneeling poses... and add the holster of course...

Thanks Jesse, that actually looks pretty good.

Picked up this set last night. I really like the taun taun. The rebel trooper is always welcome and the extra gadget is cool. I think that's the best paint job on that particular Han Solo head I've seen. The paint on the fur of his hood is a really weird color though, I've never customized anything in my life but I think I can manage this.

A resculpted wampa to go with the new taun tauns would be great, I'd prefer he wasn't the special edition kind this time around though. I'll take the pissed off tomcat look over the abominable snowman look any day.

I'd like to see a Dianogah.
