The Wookiee Arcade / Re: Star Wars: Empire At War
« on: September 20, 2013, 05:39 PM »
Everyone here stopped playing this game years ago, but since I picked it up used and started playing a couple of months back...

Epic moments:

One mission on the Rebel Campaign, not understanding the mission (thought you had blow the bunker up, not just stop and then go), having Chewbacca steal a hover tank and drive it around in circles being pursued by AT-ST's and stormtroopers. It took many tries to complete that mission.

Imperials invade Endor, I had NO troops there. No barracks. The Ewoks alone destroyed the entire Imperial invasion force...without the aide of a single defense turret. Second invasion attempt, I had some infantry, the Ewoks managed to destroy an AT-AT before my plex troopers even showed up.

After taking out an AT-AT, Han Solo was the only survivor of my Corellian raiding force, even Chewie bought it. But thanks to his fellow Corellians and defense turrets, Han liberated the whole planet, taking out two light vehicle factories, lots of AT-ST's, fighter tanks and stormtroopers.

Jabiim...as the Empire, I lost most of my units to rebel invaders, but destroyed all theirs except C-3PO and R2-D2, who were hiding with the local resistors. I had barracks, but getting a few squads to take out all the resistance dwellings and find the droids took a long time.  Kept losing squads, then having to send out a fresh one.

One conquest, Ackbar kept attacking the Death Star and then he'd retreat after a minute, losing gobs of A-Wings.

You know there's only 5 characters in the GI JOE universe that sell. That's why you see so many Zombie-Vipers, Lifelines and Low Lights still hanging around in stores everywhere.  ::)

The inevitable spin-off is coming in 2015. Suprised it took them this long.

All the while a few vocal once-respected fans hail the return of Star Wars as toys for kids.

One of them is lynched at SDCC 2015 by assailants disguised as stormtroopers who then blend into a large group of 501sters. No suspects are ever arrested.

Trek the tv show was less about action, more about ideas and allegory. Problem is, that doesn't usually translate into successful movies.

I thought you said they were movie set pictures? That's a typical street in Detroit.

I've seen them at Toys R Us, except Skull and Widow, of course. I saw them at a Target before that, IIRC. The paint ops on Falcon's eyes were awful.

I predict the upper management will fire all current Hasbro SW staffers, cancel anything collector aimed and future SW figures will be all 5 POA 3" scale, with even less paint ops than now and weapons molded into the figures' hands.

If you look at Jedi Temple Archives 2012 interview with DePriest from about a year ago, what he said came to pass. Weaning collectors to accept that CW figures would have 5 POA. Happened. Battle Packs gone at  mass retail. Happened. He said that Lucasfilm wanted them to change the size of the figures (smaller), they wouldn't and instead made the current $20 underscale vehicle assortment instead.  Now imagine 2015, new trilogy...the insistence returns (unless the Mouse says otherwise) and Hasbro caves in.

Whatever happens, happens. There's so much past stuff I don't have that I can keep collecting via ebay for years...(looks at rising prices on loose figures)...or not.

« on: September 7, 2013, 04:08 PM »
Rummage sale Obi-Wan's starfighter for under a $1, but it's missing everything, even the rubber nose cone.

Homing Spider Droid, missing the weapons and leg tops for $1 more or less.

My SW junkyard grows...

Today I reminded, there's two types of garage/yard sale people I hate.

1. the bins of toy junk, you have to dig through to find anything, and when you have a pile (which contains figures missing limbs and stuff the seller has no idea what is) and ask how much they say something unreasonable, you counter offer (generously considering its incomplete and broken toys) and they won't barter.  BUT THE CRAP WASN'T EVEN WORTH THEIR TIME TO SORT OUT in any reasonable manner. Keep it.

2. Boxes of junk/parts, ask how much..."let me get my son"....*waits*   and we get typical teenager "large ones 50 cents and whatever..."

No. No "whatevers"...this stuff is debris to you. You should be encouraging me to take it away. But teens don't give damn why should I. Keep it.

Hasbro's customer service is

1. box it up and return it to store for exchange.

or

2. we'll send you a prepaid mailing label so you can mail it to us.

and/or

3. Send you an item of equal value, but probably not the same item.
