Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Star Trek
« on: July 27, 2016, 07:46 PM »
Having seen it now, I have to say that Star Trek Beyond continued the NuTrek (or whatever it's called) traditions of:
1. Hard to watch action sequences (My eyes must be getting old.)
2. Beastie Boys music
3. A talented actor cast as a crappy villain.* (Though, that predates NuTrek, back to at least the last two The Next Generations movies. Seriously, after Nemesis I though Tom Hardy was an awful actor...he's taken much better parts since.)
4. Relying some reveal to distract from what is, at best, a mediocre story with clumsy exposition. (Though, I think a recent trailer may have given the "twist" away.)

*I won't comment more on the villain, because that's gives away too much if you've managed to avoid spoilers.

There's a lot of aliens whose heads look like sea creatures. I almost expected Hammerhead to appear.  :P

Some nods to the passing of Nimoy.  :'(

It was fairly entertaining for what it is, just an action movie in space in Trek attire, but that's another part of the NuTrek tradition...which, to be fair, started with The Next Generation movies, the current series just found a way to make them have more mass appeal.
So decent entertainment with some nice character moments, but if you haven't loved the reboot Trek, this will not change your mind.

My "they are going to remake A New Hope" theory is back on.   :P

They were and are completely sold out. Sorry.  :(

Nah, they were just shown for the first time.  :D There wasn't a 3 3/4" Star Wars SDCC exclusive.  I guess they'll be part of the next Midnight toy release fiasco.

The Worst figures look amusing. They maybe not be ReAction, just Super 7.

Well, working a Hindu deity into the show is bound to cause some controversy.

It's funny to maintain the suspense they can't show 80% of the cast. So Morgan, Carol and Tara, whom I'd forgotten about. And Deanna's remaining son.

USS Discovery First Look.

Ugly. What was the last decent looking ship? Voyager?

Found a twin pod cloud car at a thrift store  :), missing one canopy and no stickers  :(
But nice condition for its age.

AT-ACT with removable BOX! Awesome.

Actually, it looks okay. No where near worth what they'll be charging, but...

The new troopers would be sweeet with articulation. More so than those duck troopers from Force Awakens, anyway.

I want to like this line...I really want to get into this line...

I was holding out to see what Wave 2 looked like before I decided on Wave 1. I'm slipping more to the "no" side now. Something here just I don't know what it is.

And why Sorceress in Wave 2 and not Teela? I'm disappointed. I should be all over a 3 3/4" MOTU line. I wish I was.  :-\

As I said, they look worse that they should. Retro shouldn't mean "looks worse than the vintage MOTU erasers I had when I was 8".

Sorceress looks mannish. No excuse for making pretty ladies ugly. I wonder if Tri-Klops can even rotate his eyes. Probably not. They blew the budget on trap jaw's attachments.

They overtook Hasbro's Starkiller choice? Yeah, I think it's fair to say they'll never do this again.

People that like Dengar probably can't even dress themselves.  >:D

It looks like an all new sculpt from what I see. A better one. No more pointy shoulder armor.

The guy who advocated the end of obscure super-articulated figures because they BORED him, promotes the set as SA figures of characters available for the first time.

"Hasbro is delighted to announce they are make not one but TWO finalists from the 2016 Hasbro Fans' Choice Poll! In addition to poll winner ________, fan favorite Clone Captain Rex will also make his debut in the Black Series 6" action figure series!"  ;)

Starkiller is pulling ahead of Talon as of this post.

Now that I've thought about it a little more, and read some of Adam's comments, I have a different theory.  That being this exclusive may be the way to release the last few remaining characters from the Kenner line (up through POTF) who have yet to be re-made in modern renditions.

"Five of these figures have never been made as toys!"

I'd assume, even not trusting the messenger, that includes vintage Kenner as well.
