Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The Scum's New Look
« on: April 29, 2004, 04:06 PM »

Now I just despise the color scheme, and I'm somewhat peeved at the purging of the member #'s.

I actually think there are lots of options for other color schemes you can personalize your settings to use.

It's back up and running and I'm slowly getting used to it... my two peeves now are that the thread most recently posted in doesn't go to the top of the page - and the WAP thread that everyone hates refuses to load - it just times out all the time.

After all the problems yesterday - it seems like many of them have been worked out (although several still remain).

Also, it wasn't Norton but Symantec running on my work machine - and without changing anything on my end, I'm able to post from work again...so...whatever...

About an hour ago I got a message about UBBClassic or something like that.

Sounds like they're working on some more modifications.

They show like 9 topics per page - and threads go to the next page after what seem slike a very small number of posts - the WAP thread (your stance on it aside) went from an already outrageous 315 pages to over 1100.

You can set topics / replies per page in you profile.

I was pretty sure you could set topics, but I didn't know you could do replies per page.  good to know - now, if I could just somehow be allowed to actually post...

My biggest problem with it (besides it being ugly, the constant errors, and the fact that I can't post there at all) would be the lack of information per page.

They show like 9 topics per page - and threads go to the next page after what seem slike a very small number of posts - the WAP thread (your stance on it aside) went from an already outrageous 315 pages to over 1100.

Even with the search tool it's pretty much impossible to navigate.

Although I doubt anything will change, if anyone with access could bring up the problems maybe in the feedback section - I'd appreciate it.

Phillip didn't seemed to be concerned at all by the idea that Norton would keep people from being able to get into the forums.

I have Norton and will have to leave...can't have a Mod without the ability to post and there's no way I'm turning Norton off:(

Did you try posting?  Or are you just going on what I said.

If you tried and it didn't work for you as well, it's safe to say that's probably what it is.

Maybe you could bring it up to phillip or maybe someone here could post a link to this thread in the feedback and suggestions page - because I can't even post to let them know I'm having an issue - the only info I have is from an email to Phillip.

So no one else is having any Norton-related problems?

I can view and manuever around the boards just fine - but when I try to post - nothing works.

So Rebelscum changed their forums overnight - looks like I'll be doing more of my posting over here...

Because their new forum won't let me post in it.  I get this message:

"The host you are trying to send the input from is not a valid host."

Phillip says:

"I think it has to do with an option about the HTTP Referrer and designed to help make your surfing safe from harmful ads. Which may be true, but it casts such a wide net it gets many valid applications as well."

Anyone know anything about this?  I've got Norton on all my computers - and I don't plan on taking it off any time soon.

Anyone else having problems with their site and it's upgrades?

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Military Draft?
« on: April 26, 2004, 11:38 PM »
First off, the bill is sponsored by the Democrats, Representative Charles B Rangel & Sen. Ernest Hollings, *not* George W. Bush.

Nov 8, 2003 - Asked this week if the president is considering reinstituting the draft, press secretary Scott McClellan gave a quick and emphatic answer. "No," he said, moving to the next question.

Bush is not planning on signing a bill which will reinstitute the draft for the War in Iraq.

Kevin

You're right of course, but the idea of reconstituting the draft is also being strongly advocated by Republican Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska.

Among others.

I believe the democrats are doing pushing for this to make people think twice about the war in Iraq - i.e. if your own son or daughter could be called up and sent off - but I also believe all this talk has the potential to snowbal into a catastrophe if not stopped immediately.

Should we pull our boys out of Iraq?

What do you think?

I wish we could - but I think it's a mistake.  It would just be seen as an abandonment.  What needs to be done is to get the U.N. involved and maybe even NATO to some extent - just to get the whole thing internationalized again - because the 'Coalition of the Willing' is a joke.

Unfortunately, this would mean admitting that we need the U.N.'s help - which I'm not so sure George Bush is really willing to do.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: How long do you want it to last?

If they wanted to get back to making NEW characters and NEW and improved sculpts of OT characters - then I'd hope it would go on indefinitely.

If it's going to be 95% repacks - it can't end soon enough for me.

12" Figures / Re: Your 12" Figure Collection .
« on: April 26, 2004, 01:33 AM »
I started collecting loose 12" about 6 months ago - just buying opened ones at trade shows and new ones if they were on clearance.  I generally try to shoot for 7 to 10 dollars per figure... and focus on OT characters.

I'm up to about 50 or so now.

Pictures coming eventually.

EDIT:  Make that about 65-70

I was visiting my great grandmother in her nursing home a few years ago before she passed away...

And there was this senile woman out in the hallway yelling at all the nurses and workers that someone had broken into her apartment and stolen all of her belongings.  She was upset and yelled that she worked hard all her life and they could just come in and take whatever they please whenever they want and how they were no good criminals and on and on and on...

Little did she know that it was just laundry day - they'd taken her dirty laundry.

That's one of the reason's why we wouldn't start that war. America generally dosen't take on threats that can do serious damage to us. However, China would have a win win situation in taking out the US: Last big threat gone, domination of the world economy, new superpower. I am of the belife that, China hasn't started a war with us yet simply because they aren't ready. Give it 10 years and we'll see how your opinion changes.

Agreed.  By virtue of sheer population, China could amass an army of tens of millions very easily.  Give them a few more decades and it will get considerably worse.  They don't like us very much and I won't be suprised one bit if within the next 20 years or so they were to try to start a war.
