Toy Reviews / Re: JD.com Review-A-Thon: Hoth Trooper
« on: December 15, 2004, 03:48 AM »
it's an instant classic for sure!

i've read a couple of the reviews so far, namely the hoth trooper and dutch vander, and JJ is as usual frank and to point about what's right and what's wrong with these figures without sugarcoating or too much bashing. well done man!

I thought I'd throw this question in here instead of making a new thread.

Is there much of a market for loose MM vehicles and "figures". I found a box of them recently that I hadn't really opened in years and besides for a couple of vehicles, I really don't want them. So I was thinking I'd put them up as part of my trade list, but I'm wondering what the likelihood of getting a catch is on it.

Vintage Kenner / Re: What do you think about grading loose figures?
« on: December 15, 2004, 03:28 AM »
the idea of grading loose figures on the conceptual level of AFA is in my mind a really bad idea. loose figure grading has always been a bit subjective and doing so will only falsely inflate the values of certain loose figures.

case in point would be a loose klaatu, a figure you can easily pick up for $5 in a nice mint condition (C8+). suddenly a loose klaatu given a "certified" grading of 95 (using AFA's scale for comparison) is being bandied about for $50. yet the "certified" graded figure is in the exact same condition as the C8+ figure. with a likely drop in vintage collectors once Episode 3 comes and goes, the values on many loose items are going to drop as demand drops, this will be good for those collectors who have stuck around, but if a "certified" grading of loose figures starts, those prices are only likely to increase potentially causing dissatisfaction within the hobby.

when it was announced AFA was going to begin grading carded figures a few years back, I was vehemently against it. there was no evidence to indicate that their grading would be any better than the self-grading collectors had been using for years on their own. this isn't the case today as they have gained credibility on their own experience, but the proof is in the pudding that people are still paying out their ass just for the AFA grading label. that's something that has certainly hurt the carded figure market over the last 4 or so years and I would hate to see that happen to the loose figure market which overall is much smaller.

on the flipside, it was rumored about 2 years ago that AFA was getting into the loose figure grading, but I don't believe anything came of that. perhaps there wasn't a market for it, which I surely hope so. don't take this as any sort of bashing on your idea, I just don't believe their is much benefit to the hobby for "certified" grading of loose figures.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Did Dante predict Rebelscum (Wuhers)?
« on: December 15, 2004, 01:24 AM »
it's been quite entertaining to read this ****** mess of a soap opera, and I was going to keep quiet on it, because really there wasn't anything particular that caused this to start unlike other scum-related threads here at JD. but I did want to point out something.....

Well given the fact that three of them appeared in a one week period, something has to be going on. But that is their own deal, nothing really affiliated with JD

hasn't that kind of stuff happened a lot on scum over the years? a couple of assclowns posting ridiculous ****, trying to get noticed or just making a nuisance of themselves? clearly what occured isn't an isolated incident and has happened often since scum's forums went up approx. 3 years ago, yet doesn't seem to occur at any of the other major message boards (with the exceptions liekly being SSG and TFN but then again only tards go there  :P) such as the original BHC at CSW, GH, JD, DSP, Jawa, etc. as much as one should ask why these people feel its necessary to waste their time doing such stupid ****, it should be considered what has rebelscum done or allowed to be done that lends itself to such stupid **** happening there.

some food for thought.

Now that is pretty lame....  ::)

I agree. You're not really hurting the administration when you do that. You are annoying the posters and viewers.

thats quite true, but i dont think jedidefender needs to see this kind of stuff occuring here

No autographs, please I'm eating lunch for chrissakes!!!  8)

At midnight?!  Or actually 2, or 3am where you are, Jas?  Man, you're schedule is even wackier than mine!   :P

Hahah actually I am at home tonight, no work until tomorrow nite at this time. But I did just finish a toasted cheese sammich while watching last week's episode of Lost.

Holy hell Jason, that's like one of the best Jedi figures (in general) ever.  Poseable, nice paint...  That's just a nice custom actually.

Awww shucks thanks man :P But dude, you've surely seen it before, I pimped the hell out of it when I finished it.  ;D

So I take it home (and if you want to see something funny, imagine seeing someone driving down the street in a little Nissan 240SX - now featuring no muffler since it fell off a few days ago, but that's a story in itself - with a 6 foot + Christmas tree tied to the roof) and set it up.

Hahaha Dave, the visual on that is just priceless!

My holiday shopping was done 2 months ago, I only have my parents to deal with in terms of giving gifts so I got them what they wanted months ago. I hate holiday shoppers, went into Target today to get some essential household **** that couldn't wait until monday and damn was the place a war zone! Anyways, the only other giving I plan to do is drop a couple of things in a Toys for Tots box at the office later this week, but that's going to be some unopened SW figs.

Jocasta's Reading Room / Clone Wars Anthology/Timeline
« on: December 13, 2004, 02:38 AM »
I wasn't sure where to put this, but this section seems like the right place to do so. Is there somewhere online I can find a direct timeline of the entire Clone Wars anthology? Like a complete listing of all books/comics and in what order they occur in? Thanks!

Collections / Re: Chronicling the construction of my Collection Room
« on: December 12, 2004, 01:32 AM »
Hi All,

I've got another update this time, as I've finished putting up toys on the last of my bookcases as well as filling out some shelves on other cases. Several scene displays are included in this including a neat Rebel Hangar.

Thanks for viewing!

Edit: I've been told the links to the individual pages may not show up, so here's a link to Page 3 with the latest update: http://home.comcast.net/~negatech1/colroom/page3.htm

Nobody's been rocking the Pantera in tribute to ol' Dimebag??

Yeah, me neither.

Right now I'm digging this:

Actually, I have. Right now Official Live 101 Proof is playing on my pc, had Cowboys from Hell and Reinventing the Steel going earlier. With Vulgar Display of Power spinning in the car.
