Here are the covers for the new Midway compilation, by the way:

I think it's only available for the various game consoles at this point, now that I think about it (at least 3 of them).  It just got released in the past week, and has been in a bunch of the recent ads.  Just saw it at Target today at lunch, and it does have the original 12 games that were included in the "Atari Anniversary Collection", plus a bunch more from the 2600 system.  Don't think there's any Activision games in it though, since as you mentioned, they recently released their own game collection earlier this year.

Any idea on a name for this thing, Matt?  I haven't heard anything at all about any kind of an Atari compilation for the XBox, GameCube, or PS2, and a search for "Atari" at EB Games only netted the old compilations, for PC, PSX, and Dreamcast. . .

Good thing I have absolute power on these boards...

Yeah, good thing, Gregg. . .   ::)

You mean these?   ;)

Midway Arcade Treasures includes 24 games: Spy Hunter, Defender, Gauntlet, Joust, Paperboy, Rampage, Marble Madness, Robotron: 2084, Smash TV, Joust 2, Bubbles, RoadBlasters, Stargate (called Defender II in this and most other classic game packages for some mysterious reason), Moon Patrol, Blaster, Rampart, Sinistar, Super Sprint, 720, Toobin', Klax, Satan's Hollow, Vindicators, and Root Beer Tapper.

Cool stuff!

Yep--that's the one.  Thanks for saving me the trouble.  Although, from what I'm hearing, Moon Patrol isn't included--they couldn't procure the rights to it or something.

I have most of those games already, but they're spread out in various other compilations for the PlayStation and Dreamcast.  It'll be nice to have them all in one place.

And yeah, Stargate = Defender II.  I'm not exactly sure of the history there, but those names have always been interchangable.  Perhaps someone who's more familiar with the situation can shed some light on it. . .

Atari just put a new collection out as well, with 80 games, including the regular 12 or so arcade games in their original collection from a couple years ago, along with most/all of their old Atari 2600 games as well.  Another must get for the vintage gaming afficionado!

For what system?  PC?  I heard recently that someone was doing a collection like that for the Game Boy Advance, but I want to say it was Activision, not Atari.

Oh, and there's also supposed to be an Intellivision compilation coming out soon, if it's not out already:  Intellivision Lives.  I haven't really been keeping up with it, since I never had an Intellivision, but I think it's got around sixty games on it or something.

Now give me something with good ol' Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. and I'll be a happy man!   8)

Bah (not to the games--they're great--but to the company).  Nintendo's weird.

Nintendo though, did just release a Zelda Collection, consisting of the first two NES games, and the two N64 games.  You have to jump through hoops to get it, though, apparently--either by buying a GameCube with the disc included, or by buying a couple of new games on their list, and registering them on their website, or by ordering a subscription to Nintendo Power.  Of course, I'm not interested in any of those options, but I really want the disc, so I'll probably wind up ordering a subscription to that lame-ass magazine. . .

I wish there a few other titles in here, but still pretty cool.

Aww, hell--it's free.

It's not my favorite game they've got, but (Root Beer) Tapper I felt was the best one to play, at least control-wise.  I had some difficulty with a few of the others.

There's actually a new compilation disc out for all three consoles, Midway Arcade Treasures, I believe it's called, which features somewhere between 20 and 25 old arcade games--all of the ones on the site above, plus a bunch more.  Just as good--the price on it is only $20.  I need to pick it up for XBox here pretty soon.

I'll dig up a list of the titles for it in a sec.

Just ordered the Alien Quadrilogy from Deep Discount DVD, using their 20% off code, for $63.50 shipped.  It would have been $58.55 shipped, but I decided to pay the extra $4.95 for the expedited shipping.  Their normal price on this bad boy is $73.xx--which is still a pretty decent price.

DDD's Alien Quadrilogy page

There are three codes they're taking right now, all for 20% off, and they're only good through December 5.  The codes are "usatoday", "dvdsale", and "dvdtalk", which is the one I used.  They're only good on in-stock DVD product, and they're not usable on pre-orders, or non-DVD product (DDD carries a few EA video games).

Anyway, I'd have liked to have gotten this set today/tomorrow, but couldn't pass up the savings.  Hopefully I'll get it at the end of this week, and I can't wait.

Regarding Pirates of the Caribbean:

Looks like Target will have the lowest price tomorrow, at $14.99, while Best Buy and Circuit City will both have it for $15.99.

Of course, as always, Wal-Mart might have the lowest overall price, especially if there's a Target nearby, but Wal-Mart prices vary from store-to-store.  Might be worth checking out tomorrow, I don't know.

Also, if anyone's looking for more in-depth DVD price listings each week, do yourself a favor, and check out David Lambert's "Weekly Roundup" over at the Home Theater Forum.  If you guys think I'm nuts about DVDs and their prices, well, this guy's f'n looney about this stuff (only in a good way, of course).  He'll usually post his Weekly Roundups each Sunday, and then I'll steal politely borrow the info to post here.   8)

I hate having the last post on a page.

I was doing so well though :-[

Well, there was a flicker of hope when you had a brief moment of clarity on the last page, and said you were listening to The Who--even if it was a song that Pearl Jam covers on a regular basis, but even that was all shot to hell again just now.

So, I think by now, we all understand that Scott likes Pearl Jam.

No smiley can express my outrage at this moment.

I don't know if anyone here will be interested, but apparently, Deep Discount DVD is offering a couple of 20% off codes right now, and at least one of them is good until December 5th:

This deal, combined with their always-free shipping, is a great one if you're in need of some Christmas gifts for someone (or yourself).

For example, the Alien Quadrilogy goes from about $73 shipped to $58 shipped--not too bad.  (The only deal with that is that the coupons aren't good on pre-orders, so you'd have to wait until next Tuesday to order it.  Still a good deal.)

I know I've hounded you several times to check out The Shins, but haven't heard you say a word about them so here I am again, hounding!

No, no sir.  You told me ONE TIME that I should check out some group, the name of which I couldn't even remember until you mentioned it again for the second time, just now.

"The Shins".  One day, I'll get around to checking them out.

The Who ~ Who's Next...Baba O'Riley specifically

This is a sickness.   :-\

As for me, I'm watching/listening to (I guess) this year's Farm Aid concert on PBS, or at least highlights from it.  Willie just finished, and now Neil's up there, doing "Hey Hey, My My".

God bless Neil.

Are you guys seeing the two packs with Episodes I & II in them down there?  I hadn't seen these prior to a couple of weeks ago.  A few bucks savings, but I haven't seen anything but wrong screen versions.

Yeah, Fox only put the fool-screen versions in the two-pack, as far as I know.  If there's a widescreen two-pack out there, I've never heard of it.

Another thought with the OOP news is that Fox might be releasing them as one-disc, movie-only versions in the near-future.  Fox has done that with quite a few DVDs over the past couple of years--coming out with the loaded two-disc special editions of a movie first, and then putting it OOP and releasing a basic one-disc version months or years later.

Too bad if that happens, really--the documentary on The Phantom Menace's second disc, "The Beginning", is probably more entertaining and interesting than either of the two proper prequel films themselves. . .
