yeah, i kinda wondered why on the fox website it has the box set listed as p&s only... didn't make any sense to me. i thought the same thing you did... fox would be crazy to release this set as only p&s... as a matter of fact, if you go to the link to the fox website, it says "full frame"

http://www2.foxstore.com/detail.html?item=919

kinda had me a little confused...

Yeah, I saw that when they made the announcement last week.  Strange, but I'll bet it's just a typo on the part of whoever inputted the information.

If you'll look at some of the reviews that the websites have posted, they're all reviewing widescreen versions.  For several years now, Fox has been one of the best studios when it comes to releasing widescreen DVDs--in fact, I can't think of anything in recent memory that they've released in pan-and-scan only.

Speaking of reviews of Alien Quadrilogy, here's the one from DVD File:

Video: 5/5
Audio: 4.5/5
Extras: 5/5
ROM: 2/5
Value: 4.5/5

Amazin'!

Of course, pretty much the biggest DVD this week is Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, and it's been getting some pretty nice reviews so far:

HTF DVD REVIEW: "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" w/scrnshts (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)

DVDFile review

Video: 4.5/5
Audio: 4.5/5
Extras: 3/5
ROM: 1.5/5
Value: 3.5/5

The Digital Bits' Review

Video: A-
Audio: B+
Extras: C+

As far as prices go, it looks like Best Buy, Circuit City, K-Mart, and Target are all coming in at $15.99.  The only real store-exclusive that I know of is at Best Buy, where they're giving away what they're calling a "Content Card" (featuring movie screen shots, production concept art, plus wallpaper and screen saver downloads!)

The only price I've seen lower than $15.99 is at the Ultimate Electronics chain, which I know not everyone has in their area.  They've got it advertised for $14.88 this week--not too shabby.

Until next time. . .

i can't wait to get that alien box set. although from what i've seen so far, it's only available as a fullscreen version? if that's the case, then the hell with it. i have the legacy box set, and i'm definitely a widescreen kinda guy.

It's in widescreen, and only in widescreen, as far as I know.  Fox would be crazy to release something like that pan-and-scan only.

Speaking of which, Amazon's got it for $69.99 with free shipping right now, which is the best price that I know of. . .

Yeah, it's not on the list.  Coming out next week, I believe, but not on the list.  C'est la vie. . .

I'd be up for that.
How shall we go about it?

Easy - post your GamerTag, and the Live games that you play/own.

I'm Virex10, and have Unreal Tournament and Ghost Recon, but I'm never on.   8)

Oh, and here it is again, since we're on a new page now:

Red-headed hotties:

Nicole Kidman

Angie Everhart

Carrot Top

Gives me an idea:

I'm going to put that ugly-ass picture of Carrot Top on every new page of this thread until someone says something--I don't care what--about it.

I just want someone to say something--anything--about my Carrot Top joke above.

I went to too much trouble finding decent pictures of the other two redheads, to have that joke go by like a fart in the wind, with no commentary. . .

Yeah, so the other night, I fell asleep listening to a Radiohead MP3 disc--something like six hours' worth--and one of the dreams I had involved me, wearing only a bath towel, eating dinner in a really fancy restaurant in Venice, Italy, while everybody else was dressed in tuxedos and expensive dresses.  I ordered some tacos, because they were the cheapest, but then didn't have any money, so Dad wound up paying for it.

Now, whether or not the Radiohead playing in the background had anything to do with that dream, I'll never know.

So, watch what you listen to before you fall asleep, kids. . .

Okay, gang - The Digital Bits has just started posting their review of the Quadrilogy set.

So far, they've reviewed the first two discs - Alien and the Alien extras disc:

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviews3/alienquad00.html

Looks like they're going to stagger out their reviews of the rest of the set, in the hours/days to come--their site has been really busy today, for obvious reasons.

Amazing stuff. . .

http://www.sonymusic.com/artists/PearlJam/chords/lostdogs.html

30 second snippets of all of the songs are here for the Pearl Jam Lost Dogs CD...

Eh...I guess there is a reason a lot of these songs were not on the regular CD's.  Some of the stuff is cool but some of it needs to grow on me a bit :-*

Heard they took "Angel" off the set--and what's worse, they didn't put anything else in it's place.  Too bad--that was a cool song, and one of the only nine or so songs that I was familiar with before.

Eh, record companies suck.

Anyway, I've been listening to a little of Sarah McLachlan's Surfacing today, along with Van Morrison's Astral Weeks and Moondance a little earlier.

Good stuff, all around. . .

Pearl Jam fans can see a trailer of the Live at the Garden DVD here

(checking the link)

Oh, so that's what the deal is with the two covers--one's a slipcase!  In a thread about the DVD over at DVD Talk, people were confused as to which was the official cover.  That's cool.

Should be a nice set. . .

Get a box of 'Alien' films on DVD

By Mike Snider, USA TODAY

The Alien invasion will go beyond theaters when a monstrous nine-disc Alien Quadrilogy box set arrives Dec. 2.
Over the weekend, Alien returned to theaters on 347 screens, bringing in a modest $1.04 million. The re-release was designed to draw attention to next month's DVD release of the original movie that made Sigourney Weaver a star in 1979, plus its three sequels.

The $99.98 set includes versions of the four Alien films not yet seen on home video:

•Alien can be watched in the original version or the new director's cut now playing in theaters.

• The 1986 sequel, Aliens, is available on DVD for the first time, with director James Cameron's special edition as well.

• Alien 3 (1992) has more than 30 minutes of new footage.

•Alien Resurrection (1997) has alternate opening and ending scenes.

Each movie also has its own accompanying disc of extras, and the ninth disc has a new interview with Alien director Ridley Scott. Scott and Weaver, who starred in all four films, also take part in a new commentary on the film.

One creature feature sure to pique fan interest: A multi-angle study of the "chest-buster scene," in which a hatched alien emerges from the stomach of Kane (John Hurt).

"Some of the background anecdotes and information about the shoot and setup — particularly (actress) Veronica Cartwright's reflection on the shock of getting soaked in jets of blood — are the type of thing that really sets DVD apart as an entertainment format," says Peter Staddon, senior vice president of marketing for Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

In total, the Alien Quadrilogy set has about 45 hours of previously unseen material. On Jan. 6, the films will be available individually on DVD for $26.98 each.

Anyone catch that last part?

Now--I'm a sucker for the box-set-type stuff, so I'll still definitely be getting the Quadrilogy, but that's great news for those people who only wanted to get the first one and/or two.

And--what great, if not devious, marketing that is.  Release the box before Christmas, and then release them all separately afterward.  That's funny.

More later. . .

Oh, and I guess there's a new "Weird Al" video collection that's coming out tomorrow, as well--I know he has some fans here.

The "Weird Al" Yankovic Ultimate Video Collection

Amazon - $13.99
Best Buy - $19.99
Circuit City - $15.99

More about the Alien Quadrilogy set later this afternoon. . .

Big news today from The Digital Bits - apparently, Fox is getting set to announce the Alien Quadrilogy set for a December 2nd release.

Looks like everything's been ready to go for a while; they just wanted to wait until Alien was theatrically re-released before they announced the DVD set.

Anyway--I'll go ahead and update the list now.

Speaking of which--do any of you guys bother to check the list on the first page anymore?  Or do you just check the latest posts in the thread?

Just curious. . .
