Watto's Junk Yard / am i wrong for this?
« on: November 12, 2003, 07:34 PM »
bear with me, after i wrote it out and read it back, there's a lot of "friend" talk, but no names... i'm not sure if any of them read this forum (i doubt it) but i can't be too cautious....

a friend of mine got a new pc with a dvd burner in it, and he asked me to borrow my sw trilogy dvd's to copy them. i said sure, no problem, he's my friend and all... you know? so what if i paid $70 for the set, i'll just let him make a copy for himself. so, i took them with me when i went to his job the other day, and a fellow friend of his was there. his friend is also a star wars fan, and when he saw what i was giving to my buddy, and what he was going to do, he asked my buddy if he could have a copy as well. and he was like, "sure no problem, i'll just make two". now, i was standing right there, but wasn't asked if this semi-stranger could also have a copy of my discs. now, i know that he could have easily just made a copy from his copy and not told me anyway, but at least he could have asked. now, i was talking to another friend today at work, and telling him about how my buddy got a dvd burner, and he was like "cool... i can't wait for them to come out so i can finally get a copy of the trilogy". so i called up my friend, who still has my dvd's, and asked him if he could make an additional copy for me to give to my friend. and he was like, "uhmmm.... are you going to bring me blank dvd's or should i just use the ones i have here?". so kinda in a kidding way, i said, "just use the ones you have and i'll pay for them when i pick them up". and he goes, "cool. they're like $2.50 each".

i was in shock. i mean, i would think that after giving him my $70 trilogy set to copy - for free - that he could at least make me a few copies without asking me for the $7.50 for the blanks. i am pissed... i always thought that he was a good friend, but now i'm not sure. am i wrong to be pissed? is he right in asking me for the $7.50? and he told me that he has a bunch of movies that he wants to borrow, so that he can copy them. what should i do?

on top of that, he wants me to create a rather large diorama for his store, a diorama of the geonosis arena... should i charge him labor now?

Star Wars Ships and Vehicles / Re: my custom speederbikes (kinda)
« on: November 12, 2003, 07:10 PM »
That's a good idea Dave, but I didn't buy a ton of the sets to get the stand you speak of...  May take one extra if I have one though and cast it...
yeah, i went a little overboard when it came to that particular set, even though the death star trooper sucks ass. i have about 12 of them, because i wanted the figs for my death star diorama. but hey, at least i found a use for them :)

I'd suggest drilling a hole in the bottom maybe rather than gluing though.  more "permanent" in the hole, but it's on the underside and not too noticeable.  You could always remove the stand then too, if you wanted to admire it away from the stand or whatnot.
you know, i didn't think of that, but now that i do, i'm not sure if it would work... i think the bikes are hollow, and i'm not sure if the stand would stay in there well enough to hold the bike up. unless you put a spot of glue around where the stand goes inside the bike...

And I agree, Durge rocks with that bike...  Damn near the best figure Hasbro's ever made as far as overall value and even overall quality. Go figure that it's all been used on Durge, a side-character from an EU project.   ;D
i didn't think he looked all that great inside the packaging, and even after i opened it up and looked at him i wasn't really impressed to be honest. but for some reason, once i put him on that bike, he looks great.

Clone Wars '03-'05 / Re: What the heck do you want?
« on: November 12, 2003, 07:02 PM »
hey jesse i'm guessing that you want all that stuff in the non-animated figures? and yeah, i'd pretty much buy everything off your list :)

but what about those animated figures? do you think they should make all the figures from the regular clone wars line into animated figures too? and what about the vehicles done in an animated way? would you buy those if they were different from the regular ones? i guess a better question could be, how could they make them different from the regular versions?

Star Wars Ships and Vehicles / my custom speederbikes (kinda)
« on: November 12, 2003, 12:35 AM »
well, i guess they're not really customs in the truest sense of the word, but i picked up the bounty hunter 4 pack with the aurra sing bike, along with the clone trooper and the durge with their bikes, and i couldn't find a good way to display them. so, i took a few of the interogation droids that came with the target death star trooper sets and snapped the droid off, and glued the clear stand to the bottom of the bikes.

pay no attention to the surroundings (i.e. my messy workshop) - i'll try and take some better photos with a better background tomorrow. now i guess i have to customize the figures to make them look a little more natural on the bikes... except for durge, he kinda looks ok to me. i think they look pretty good, and it kind of gives the impression that the bike is "flying"... comments?

Hey Hasbro! / Re: Fix the Case Assortments...AGAIN
« on: November 11, 2003, 11:28 PM »

1x Hoth Trooper
1x R-3P0

they start off with some decent assortments, all new stuff, and then... they start giving us figures from last year? i know they are on the new style cards and all that, but so what? if retail stores are going to be ordering fairly heavy on these assortments - set to hit in late november/early december for christmas shopping - they are going to get stuck at retail and not move. then, when the "new" assortments are actually shipping, no one will be ordering anymore because their pegs will be all jammed up.... who decides on these case packs - star trek fans?

TV-9D9 / Re: CLONE WARS Cartoon... Reactions
« on: November 11, 2003, 09:21 PM »
We NEED this stuff...  These cartoons are as big a tease as the last date I went on...  :)  Definitely leave ya wanting more!

that made me laugh out loud so hard... but not as hard as another experience i had today (which, unfortunately, is not forum suitable content)... but i couldn't agree more. i actually did not watch tonight's episode, and i don't think i'm going to watch anymore until they come out on dvd so that i can just sit down and watch an entire half hour, or hour, or whatever the total running time turns out to be.

Jocasta's Reading Room / Re: What's your LEAST favorite book?
« on: November 11, 2003, 08:44 PM »
i haven't really disliked any of the books so far. but i am kinda getting tired of reading these njo novels. it's a good story, but i'm kinda getting tired of it. they could have told this entire story in half the space i think. almost finished... 3 more books to go...

then i'm free  ;D

Jocasta's Reading Room / Re: Opinions on Infinities?

personally, i love the infinities series. it reminds me of the "what if" marvel comics from back in the day, which were always my favorite books to read.

i'm gonna stick with my previous comments... i think i'm seriously going to avoid watching this until it comes out on dvd. it just seems that in the first two episodes, just as i start getting into it, it's over. now, hopefully, on the dvd they won't make it so that each episode starts and ends with the credits and logo and all, and just make it a conitinuous 30 minutes or so. otherwise, i'll just be in the same boat  >:(

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Do You Have a Favorite Character(s) To Collect?
« on: November 10, 2003, 10:09 PM »
even tho i am one of the 'completists' when it comes to 3-3/4" figures - and i'm a loose completist as well as a carded completist - i tend to just buy what i like out of the rest of the star wars line. except when it comes to my favorite character - boba fett. yeah, i know, that's the lame character that everyone loves because he's 'mysterious' or whatever, but since that day i saw empire back in the day, i just fell in love with his costume, and his history - or lack thereof - and to this day, i still collect anything that has his image on it.
