30th Anniversary Collection / Best, Oldest Figure?
« on: September 25, 2006, 09:22 PM »
I've been buying current Hasbro figures since 1995.  Many of the earlier figures are sub-par compared to what is being made today.  However, there were some good ones from back then.  What is the oldest figure that you display with your current figures? Who holds up the best?

I have to vote for Ackbar and Ree-Yees. Any thoughts?

30th Anniversary Collection / Luke Snowspeeder Concept...
« on: August 30, 2006, 11:32 PM »
I’ve been trying to figure out economical ways for Hasbro to get two figures out of one basic sculpt, and some added pieces.  Hope you like it.

The first figure would be a well-articulated Luke Skywalker: Snowspeeder Pilot.
He would come with a grappling hook/gun, grenades, and a lightsaber.  His helmet would
be removable.  Underneath the helmet would be “Thermal Hood”

The second figure, released six months later would be Luke Skywalker: Dagobah Landing.  The first figures’ fore arms would be replaced with gloveless sleeves.  He would have an added gun belt with holster, like Garindan.  He would come with a blaster, crate, lantern and lightsaber. Underneath the removable helmet, the head would be a traditional Luke head.  He would have a very dirty, muddy paint job.

Fan Art / My New Illo Style...
« on: August 30, 2006, 10:01 PM »

I've been working as a full time illustrator for the last 12 years.  I've been developing a new "digital collage" style lately, and have decided to focus on Star Wars as subject matter.  There will be more of these soon.  Hope you like them.---Mike

There's a big article on merchandising Star Wars at The Wall Street Journal, here was the most interesting figure related news...

"Fans will get answers next year when Lucasfilm Ltd. releases a videogame based on that unexploited time in the "Star Wars" continuum. With razzle-dazzle effects, the game will be the main platform for an accompanying line of action figures and vehicles from longtime "Star Wars" partner Hasbro Inc. to be released next year. A print and television advertising campaign will precede the game launch, piggybacking on the 30th anniversary of the franchise."

30th Anniversary Collection / Ultra Line in 2007?
« on: August 11, 2006, 04:58 PM »
Lando the Scoundrel and I got talking the other night that there seems to be some big "pieces" coming out next year.  The rumored tower for the Rebel Sentry, the confirmed U-Shaped bar piece and the confirmed Moisture Vaporator.

I wonder if there is a Ultra/Deluxe type line coming also?  It might explain some of the sizable accesories.  Thoughts?

BTW, I'm sorry about all the 2007 posts, but I am so totally bored with what Hasbro is releasing in the fall. Repaint after repaint after repaint...

I'm trying to stay interested by focusing on next year.

30th Anniversary Collection / 2007 Basic Figure List
« on: August 10, 2006, 12:35 AM »
I know it's early, but I thought I'd give this a start.  I'm not sure what the official numbers will be, but I'll start here...

1. Galactic Marine
2. Airbourne Trooper
3. Lava Miner
4. McQuarrie Stormtrooper

Plus we know there will be 7 other Concept figures and the the Yavin Wave.  Anything else that's  confirmed that I'm forgetting?

30th Anniversary Collection / 30th Anniversary Cards?
« on: July 1, 2006, 09:06 PM »
It seems that the cards will go through another change for the "30th Anniv. Line" next year.  I think that this is the first time that I am not looking forward to a card change.  I think the current ones are perfect.  I couldn't ask for better cards.

I'm wondering if the card will somehow incorporate the original Tom Jung poster.  That might be very cool, but also very ANH-centric.

What does everyone think they'll do next year?

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Can Sculpey be baked twice?
« on: April 10, 2006, 04:56 PM »
The title kinda says it all.  I want to build something that could benefit from pieces being added on to a strong foundation, and baking it twice was an idea.  Any thoughts?

Saga Collection '06 / Most Dialogue/No Fig
« on: April 8, 2006, 12:46 PM »
Which character in any of the six films, that has not been made into a figure, has the most dialogue?

I'm sure some of the Padme costumes might be the obvious pick, but what about beyond Padme?

Saga Collection '06 / Figure Release Schedule?
« on: March 28, 2006, 09:30 PM »
Imagine that you knew exactly what day new figures would be released, and that you'd be able to find them on that day, what would everyone's dream figure release schedule be?  One figure a week?  25 figures twice a year?

I would love to see five new figures released the same day each month.  To me that would be a perfect amount to keep me jazzed all year.

12" Figures / Sideshow Light Sabers?
« on: January 29, 2006, 08:04 PM »
Originally, I was really looking forward to Sideshow 12 inch figures.  I ordered the first two, then cancelled them.  I'm just not blown away by them.

Anyway, after looking at Kit Fisto, I realized that it was the lightsbers that I hated.  They really don't look right.  The blade is too skinny compared to the hilt, and the blade tapers to a point. The solid material looks more like the props used while fliming than anything actually in the movie.  The just don't do it for me.

Any one else put off by these?

Saga Collection '06 / Animated Figs in TSC?
« on: January 5, 2006, 07:59 PM »
Just curious, how would everyone feel about Hasbro making an "Animated Clone Wars" wave within The Sga Collection?  Personally, I'd be all for it.  These would be in the animated style, not movie style figures of animated characters. To me, it would be no different than having figures from comic books and video games in the mix.

I think that there are so many cool figures, that this could be done often.  While I know were getting a "movie style" Muftak Jedi, I would really love a cartoon style one.  Figs like Snow Bunny Padme, Seasee Tiin in Armor, and Grevious' Body Guards would make great figures.  Not to mention Obi-Wan and Anakin in their proper Season 2 Jedi gear with the small bits of armour. Any thoughts?  It's been dead around here...

Saga Collection '06 / What Makes a Good Figure?
« on: December 23, 2005, 07:53 PM »
After reading many luke-warm responses to the three new beautifully sculpted, but non-important, figures in the Lucas Family set I started wondering about what people want as collectors.  To me, any charcter that is on screen is eligable to be made into a figure.  I don't care how dull the charcter's part is.  To me, a clone is no more "important" to a collection that a Mon Cal senator.  I also don't think that Jedi or Clones are "cooler" than other characters.  In fact, the reason I love SW figures, and have been collecting since the Early Bird kit in 1978, is that it is a collection that covers main characters, bit players, soldies, civilians, wildlife, bartenders, gangsters, musicians and chefs.  And I like them all.

So, what do you want in your SW collection?
