The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Jedi = Star Trek red shirts?
« on: May 28, 2005, 05:14 PM »
Guys, the whole point of the Prequels is that the Jedi were arrogant and when their attackers came after them they were caught off guard.

If Lucas says that's way the Jedi die, that's the way the Jedi die.

Honestly. I like the idea of a young Yoda fighting close to 100 years ago.  It just sounds so out there, that it's plausable.  The problem with ANY new SW is that it shouldn't affect the Skywalker Family story (E1-E6), and setting the story so long ago, there would be little danger of that.

I think that Yoda should lead a "damned fool idealistic crusade" for some sort of force crystal and build the first lightsaber to defeat the Sith!

I want the little aliens that re-feuled Obi-Wan's ship on Utapau, plus all the other stuff mentioned.

Thinking about it now, there were very few new aliens in E3.

In truth, the only thing that I felt was missing from ROTS was a small scene (30 seconds) with Anikin in the temple killing a few adult Jedi.  I would have love to see him wiping them out with no problem, showing us how strong the dark side has made him.

I think that the hologram didn't show enough.

You see, you're still not getting the Prequels.  The whole point of them was to change our perception of the originals.  Anyway, Vader always went after unarmed people (Antilles) and wimps (Motti).  Most "evil" people are cowards at heart.

In response to Herbert's "the Empire isn't that bad" thread...

Having now seen all of the prequels, the worst thing the Empire did (before Alderaan) was destroy democracy.  To us, as Americans, that's reason enough to hate them.

In the scene where the clones are discussing Obi-Wan's fall, there are some really, really tall guys walking with clones in the background.  These guys were like 10 feet tall.  I was really intrigued by them,

I'm not sure that we ever saw the Utapau Warrior either...was this mentioned already?

"I loved ROTJ at one point, but after becoming a lover of great film, it's nothing more than a guilty pleasure."

I agree.  I think that ROTJ is succesful only in the Vader/Luke/Emperor stuff.  Other than that, I think it's the slowest and most claustrophobic of all of the films.  While I dig the movie too, it's becuase I like SW, not because it's a great movie.  I think that ROTS is a stronger third act with a solid beginning, middle and end.

While I never expected  Lucas to explian everything, I too would have like to have seen Qui-Gon.  It would have tied TPM and ROTS together in a more visual way. I was hoping he would have appeared very briefly on the Blockade Runner, and he would have had Yoda's dialog about "more training."

It was the one thing in ROTS that wasn't good storytelling.  We were told something, as opposed to seeing it.

"not a single one of your other movies, unless it had the name Indiana attached to it EVER made any money,"

Dude, do some research.  American Grafitti made a huge amont of money, and earned Lucas his first millions.

"None if this is possible."   Your post was well said Jedidz23.   I am sick and tired of fans who think that they can decide which elements of fantasy are acceptable, and which aren't.

It is so insane to "believe" in the Force, yet not "believe" that in infant (in a fictional reality) can have a memory.  I'm all for talking about weak elements in the movies, and in the prequels there are many, but I have always accepted Lucas' word as gospel.  If he says that Leia remembers her mother, than she does.

Who knows, maybe the people who find these  flaws are the same people who consider the books, games, and comics to be more interesting than the movies.

"No, Leia remembering her real mother is just plain impossible."

So are Light Sabers.

I believe the Target Clones are the ones riding the speeder bikes during the Jedi purge.

Yeah.  I'm feeling kind of bummed too,  I had a great time on Wednesday night and Thursday with a good friend who came up to NY from NC, but he's gone home now.

The fact that Star Wars is "over," combined with the lonliness that I am feelling becuase my son (that I have been taking care of since January) has started daycare, has really put me in funk.  On one hand it's good because I can work full time again and my wife and I can spend more time together, but I miss the little guy during the day, and now I'm going to miss the Skywalker family.

While I'm  curious about the TV shows, I admit that I'm skeptical of them.  I'm afraid they'll be SW without the spectacle, and that doesn't interest me.
