Anyone that complains about the plot contrivances in Star Trek must admit to more egregious contrivances in this film.  Lois Lane actually had me throwing my hands up more than once near the end of this picture.

I like Cavill as Supes.  I REALLY liked the Krypton stuff, especially Crowe.  I liked that they didn't try to fall over themselves explaining alien tech.  It is alien tech.  That is enough.  I loved the fatherhood stuff with both of Superman's fathers (great for father's day weekend).  Liked Costner a lot.  I liked Faora, and the way they showed her fighting.  Zod was pretty good.

I have a huge problem with the way they handled Kryptonian superpowers.  The powers come from the radiation of the sun.  Jor-El explicitly stated this.  I can also buy the effects of the Kryptonian atmosphere vs. Earth's, but they just kept playing fast and loose with what affects powers, what doesn't etc.

Why were they so afraid of saying "Smallville" "Metropolis" or worst of all, "Superman" (they didn't even call the picture Superman for crissakes)?  This isn't Batman.  A dollup of cheese is acceptable with Superman.  I wouldn't be surprised if there was discussion about never showing Supes in his costume in this film at some point in development.

As others have said, the fighting was too much.  Too long, too fake.  We've seen mass destruction done over and over, so it wasn't special.  Also, I feel like Supes would draw them away to avoid casualties.  The way buildings were falling was just... over the top and not in a good way.

MAJOR SPOILERS:
Finally, I hated the way they ended the conflict between Zod and Supes.  Superman would not have killed Zod.  Jor-El would not approve.  Jonathan would not approve.  Plus, how could he have done it since Zod is just as invulnerable as Superman is?  Just didn't make logical sense and it did not at all ring true with the nature of the character.

I think that if (when) they make a sequel, that they have the right cast, and Clark is in place where he should be at the Planet, so there is potential.  I just hope they come up with a creative way to put Superman in peril which is the core challenge with any Superman story.

Overall, I merely liked this film.  I'd give it a 6.6 or 7 of 10.

Imagine if we get 6 or 7 games of that caliber?  Whew!

If you have ever dealt with alcoholism/drug dependence, then you'll know that it takes a LONG time for someone to regain the trust they squander away.  I just don't think that they could handle it in a realistic way in the forum of a mass-market summer blockbuster.  I don't think it has anything to do with offending anyone (although recovery experts would probably crap all over such a quick turnaround as you are explaining) but more with catering to the expectations of the audience they are aiming for.

I do agree that those PTSD scenes were a little weird and never really seemed to have a point in retrospect.  There was never really a moment where Tony overcame someone talking about NY and the events of The Avengers to save the day, unless I am just not remembering it.  Seemed a little tacked on, and changing it to the bottle would feel just as (or perhaps more) tacked on.

I think the reason that Stark's alcoholism is not a plot point is because there isn't a really good way to introduce this very real issue, and resolve is satisfactorily in the course of 2 1/2 hours.  Comics have the luxury of being able to deal with the ramifications over several months.  Stark's demons are a way to keep him out of the armor, to try something different.  The producers (and the audience) don't want a film where Tony isn't in the armor.

There are plenty of OTHER movies about alcoholism.

The ninth episode of each of the seasons so far is the "Holy Sh!T!!" episode, and the finale is usually more subdued in comparison(Beheading, Blackwater, Red Wedding). My friends and I have decided to have an "Episode 9" party next season.

Did I hear correctly that Roose Bolton's bastard is also named Snow?  Are all bastards named Snow?

Sony's event was one death blow to XBone after another.  They won this one, hands down.

I'm pretty shocked that the B's took the series in 4.  That last 2 minutes of game 4 was awesome to watch.

What a gigantic blunder this is turning into.  Sony has a chance to wipe the floor with MS by just dumping these draconian ideas they are talking about.  Trouble is that I doubt Sony is smart enough to see anything but the small pile of cash that may be obscuring the mountain of cash behind it.

That's not to say it's over - the B's have been known to take their foot off the gas and let teams back in it
Ain't that the truth.

Wow.  My reaction was very similar to the first girl in that video.  Hand covering my mouth, and saying "no f***ing way..."  This show is amazing.  They did an astounding job building the tension through the whole episode.  When that door shut, and the Rains of Castamere started, I knew business was about to pick up.

Pete's on the money here.  Takei  and Alley played hardball.  The role was written as Saavik.  Pete is also right in saying that it is easy to explain away this plot hole, just like most every complaint that people are throwing at ST:ID.  Star Trek is not, contrary to what some think, high science fiction.
