My wife actually looks for figures for me when she's out an about, so I can't complain at all.  With the picture that surfaced of Blue Beetle, hopefully that means Booster Gold won't be too far behind. <-- just read the post above - guess he's coming.  Awesome.

Regarding the Lobo, has anyone been able to get into the mattel website?  I've read reports that people can browse the site, but not order till monday.  I go to the main page, and I just see the coming soon countdown.

I really hope I can get a Lobo without resorting to ebay.

Here, maybe you'll believe me now:

JayDouble's pic from the SDCC thread.

Awesome.

That blue beetle is awesome.  Now my only question is, where the heck are the DCUC figures?  I thought wave 3 was supposed to hit late June/early July?  Has anyone seen them yet?

I WANT THAT TROOPER !!!
Yeah, that trooper is pretty awesome.  I've stuck with only OT busts, but that's pretty nice.

I was a huge MOTU fan as a kid, and when the line re-launched (in 2002?) I was really excited to collect it.  Even though distribution was spotty I managed to get all the retail figures from the first few waves.  Starting with the buzz-off wave I missed a bunch, but wasn't too upset because I was getting burnt out from hunting.

Now that the DVD sets have been coming out, I've been watching with my 4 year old.  We've dug up all my figures and he's been playing with them.  It's reminded me how well done these figures were, and how sad it is that the line died prematurely.

With this announcement I'm really curious to see what Mattel does with this website.  It could be awesome, or just another source of increasing frustration with Mattel.

So I need to ask what's up with Gentle Giant and the Star Wars mini-bust line?  Sure, there's a CJ exclusive, but what else?  There doesn't seem to have been much mention of anything since the Tie Pilot and really wasn't much before that.  It's been nice in the sense I haven't been laying out any cash but is there any life left in this line?  No mention of a SDCC exclusive?  Nothing at any of the major comic cons or other events except the Qui-Gon.

I've been wondering the same thing.  It seems there are a number of things left that could be done.  After the tie pilot, the at-at driver seems an easy one for them to do.  But you know what's REALLY missing?  Wait for it Brent...

...Ewoks!!!

How can they have not done an Ewok yet?  Or at least Wicket?  ;D

Actually there are a few characters I would love to see.  Squid head, ree yees and hammerhead would be pretty cool to see.  I would also like to see an ESB Lando.  Plus I'm still waiting for farmboy Luke.

Hopefully the line has some life left for new (OT) stuff.

Via the Mattel Q and A at TNI, the SDCC exclusive Lobo will be $25 (and the JLU Giganta set is $20).
Is there anyone here who is planning on going to SDCC and not looking to get the Lobo for themselves?  I'm extremely interested in this figure, and am hoping to avoid going the ebay route.  I know I'm not a known commodity on these boards (though I have been posting on and off for a few years) - but I think/hope that Brent would vouch for me (umm, you would, wouldn't you Brent?  ;D).

Love the addition of Kalibak.  And while I also would have liked to see him look more like his super powers figure, I still really like the figure.  I'm even more annoyed now that in order to get Lightray I would need to get another Orion (and that's assuming I can ever find the two pack, which is unlikely).

I know toy releases are never an exact science, but I had thought that wave 3 was supposed to be in July.  That has me a bit concerned about not seeing wave 2 at retail.  Here's hoping that this is just a low period thing as suggested above, and not another example of mattel dropping the ball.

My understanding is that the alternate firestorm and aquaman aren't really variants (same as Red Tornado from wave 1).  They are, but they aren't chase figures (with skewed ratios).  Rather, the first release of the figures is supposed to have the classic look of the characters, after which each release will alternate the figure.  Can't remember where I read that, and don't know if it's true.  But the next batch of released figures should have the modern look of the characters.

Regarding the Lobo figure, when is the SDCC?  That's a figure I would love to get - I still have my old Lobo 4 issue mini-series by Giffen and Bisley.  I've never gone after a convention exclusive before, does anyone have any idea how hard they are to get (if you're not going), or roughly how much they end up being marked up?

Oh yeah, got my Aquaman this weekend.  Really nice details on him - he may be my favorite of this wave.  Nice to complete Grodd too.

Man, this line is gonna break me.  It's the only thing I'm actively collecting right now, so I guess that's alright.  So far, I'm liking all the characters.  I don't really care about the variants  - which is good, cause that Capt. Atom is awful.  I'm surprised/pleased to see the Perez-style Aries.  I must admit, I never thought I would own a figure of that.  And it's nice to see more of the 4th world stuff.

The biggest problem for me will be trying to find it all.

And yeah - I would love to get my hands on that Lobo.

Brent,

I'm in the same boat as you with the Alex Ross line.  The only reason I picked that line up was to get a fairly cohesive DC set of figures without mixing and matching from different lines.  With this line, I kind of wish I hadn't picked up the Ross ones.  That said, most of the Ross figures are quite nice.

I also have some aprehension about seeing much of this line at retail (which is why I picked up wave 2 where I did).  That said, they've sold well enough that I think Walmart will carry at least the first few waves.

I also found everything except aquaman.  And even without an arm, Gorilla Grodd is awesome.  I picked them up at a flea market from a toy dealer - paid about $1.50 more per figure then I would have had I waited to find them at retail - which isn't too bad.  These aren't in Canada yet, so I'm not too worried that I've supported a scalper.  I'm pretty sure the guy just orders case assortments.
