Damn, I just found out the Matchbox put out a 1963 Cadillac Hearse. The hunt begins...  ;D

That hearse is great. I've got it sitting on my desk at the office. I've been really impressed with the latest offerings from Matchbox. There was an orange '62 Beetle and green '56 Ford pickup that were spot-on a few months ago, and I just recently found the new red '65 Alfa GTA...a beaut!

It seems like all the stores I've checked lately have none of the diecast at all; not even space for them. I figured it was a result of the Sarge recall, but now that I see others still finding these, I'm suspicious.

It's too bad I can't find any, now, I've got my youngest hooked on them as a reward for potty training. So much so, that she isn't satisfied with the standard Matchbox/Hotwheel anymore.  ::)

Kids.

Bay reposted saying he acted rashly and WILL do number 2 now.  ::)

Funny. My potty-training two-year old said the exact same thing to me last night!  :P

...and the Shuttle landed safely.  :)

When I read about another chunk of tile flaking off during the launch this time, I couldn't help but feel dread. Glad to know all the crew are safely home.

I know I'm probably jinxing it, but this has been, seemingly, one of the mildest summers for us in San Jose. We had a 95 way back in early June, but other than that, everyday has been topping out at around 79, with last week being in the low 70s (in August!). We'll usually get at least a couple hundred-degree days, as well as at least two weeks worth of 90+, but it just hasn't happened this year. Great news for our A/C-deprived home.

However, the pessimistic scientist in me knows that these three months of below-average temps dramatically increase the chances for an above-average September/October.

Just an FYI for you Cars collectors, the Supercharged Sarge Car was part of the latest Mattel recall involving lead paint. I've bought a couple of these cars, and some I've given to my little girls. I have a Sarge that has the lead paint problem, but thankfully hadn't yet given it to my girls. I'll follow up to let you know how smooth/unsmooth the recall process is.

"I had a little kid come up to me and tell me he'd give the ball back to me," Bonds said with a laugh. "I said, 'Are you stupid? You'd have more money than your parents.'"

Though I'm no advocate of calling little kids stupid, and I'll certainly agree that Bonds has displayed more than his fair share of arrogant prickiness, I think his statement has some merit. Even if it has no possibility of fetching "McFarlane money," that ball's gotta be worth at least $50,000 to someone, probably more, and that's definitely more money than I have. That sure would buy a kid a relatively nice education.

Of course, I'll have to recuse myself from having any objective opinion, since I live and work just south of the Giants' ballpark.  :P

Happy birthday, Matt! Since it's a day late, I'll make amends by saying (just this once), "Go Angels!" and "Go Dodgers!"

Ugh, that hurt.

Through Netflix, I've been catching up on all the movies I haven't been able to see at the theatres the last few years. Here's the most recent views:

Little Children. Actually surprisingly good, though a few parts were kind of unnecessarily disturbing. It was fun to see Bad News Bears "Kelly" in a totally different role.

Notes on a Scandal. Another creepy one, but quite good. Judi Dench was awesomely wicked.

Garden State. Meh. It was pretty much what I thought it would be. I would've liked to see the relationship with his dad explored more. I also thought Portman's role wasn't believable. Seemed like she was playing it a little over the top. I will admit that I paused and slo-mo'd during the Portman pool scene.  :-*

Capote. I just couldn't get into Hoffman as Capote. I kept expecting him to all of a sudden go off-character and say, "I sharted." I fell asleep in the middle, so apparently the story wasn't riveting enough, either.

Stranger Than Fiction. Fun. It was actually good to see Ferrell in a slightly different role, yet still not totally serious. The soundtrack was great and really set the mood for the movie. Good supporting cast, too.

Awesome, Jesse, just awesome! And great middle name, too. Faith is our second daughter's middle name, too.

Congrats!

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Your Favorite Character in the Saga?
« on: June 7, 2007, 01:53 PM »
Though not really "characters" per se, Stormtroopers have always been my favorite. Yeah, shocking, I know.  :-*

As for an actual character, I'd say that A New Hope Luke was my favorite. He had naivete, innocence and strength, plus his face hadn't yet been battered to an unrecognizable pulp by a windshield Wampa.

It was just a matter of time before Chestnut broke the record. He'd been getting closer and closer to Kobayashi (sp?) every year. I love how one of the prizes was a year's supply of hotdogs. :P

Yeah, this is an awesome idea. And maybe it's the mopey sap in me, or the fact I have two little girls of my own, but just reading about this makes me all teary and want to buy every last one of these pink R2s.  :'(
