Watto's Junk Yard / Re: How have your collecting habits evolved over the years?

When I started with Episode One (after years of not thinking about Star Wars at all) I was purely in it for fun, so I was just collecting loose. On top of that I was only after a few figures. This did, however, eventually develop into loose completism, a pattern which lasted right up until the Saga line.
At this point I had no more shelf space and one look at the excess accessories and the crappy action features of the Saga figures and I thought to myself “Rob, you’d be better off keeping this stuff on the wall”. FATAL.
I saw how cool the carded stuff looked and decided that I needed EVERYTHING MOMC and loose. This was around the time I first registered here. Up went the extra shelves, and my Internet Explorer was permanently pointed in the direction of eBay. Eventually I had a complete(ish) set from Ep1 onwards carded AND loose.
Not surprisingly my wallet was staring to hurt badly…remember that Star Wars figures in the UK cost roughly twice as much as in the US…so in terms of cash, it was like buying 4 sets of figures. Then the first serious rehashes came out. BANG…WTF is this? “Rob, you have three Eeth Koths!” , and there were bills to pay and rodents to feed and take to the vet. So all rehashes were gone and I was at the all-the-figs-I-don’t-have MOMC and loose stage.
By the end of last year I was getting into LOTR big time. I had to have some of the figures. I went for loose because of all the packaging variation crap (and Hasbro had by this time soured me on that already). So, with LOTR being way more expensive than Star Wars, and because I also had no more shelf space, I came to the decision that I needed to drop one of my Star Wars sets. After consultation with other collectors, my loose figs were out the door…coz I can always open my MOMC stuff later on if I feel the need, right?
So here we are, one of every Star Wars figure that I don’t already have MOMC, and a cool selection of my fav LOTR figures loose. What could be better? Well, I’m running out of space for my “wallpaper” again. I have enough room for the un-rehashed OTC and the VOTC, but not all the figs to be released in the years to come…
…might be about to go down the OT-only-MOMC route
