Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Star Trek

I've read a few places the same song was in Abrams' first Trek.  I can't recall one way or the other.

I think the trailer looked horrible.  Like they hired the guy who directed Fast & Furious to make a Star Trek movie.

(yes, I know they hired the guy who directed Fast & Furious to make this Star Trek movie)

Why don't they take a lesson from JJ Abrams and Disney in their approach to TFA...not knowing the plot, but teasing just enough in the trailers has led to huge interest in this movie!

That's why Disney is Disney, and WB is WB.  I mean, even comparing it to Civil War - the Civil War trailer has a lot of plot points packed into it.  You get a very good idea what the movie will entail.  But it still hyped me the hell up.  So being entirely cloak-and-dagger isn't necessarily the magic formula.

I wonder if the BvS folks have just sat on their completed product for so long that they can't help but dribble out info at every opportunity.

But just taking this production designer's statements at face value - the mind boggles.  Is he saying Supes is killed-off mid-movie?  Or disappears or something?  He's implying Doomsday takes Superman's place, and then Batman has to go all versus on the new-improved clone of Superman.  Except it's a clone of Zod.  It's just lunacy.  My brain hurts trying to make sense of it.

Cryptic, SPOILERy plot synopsis of BvS re: Doomsday from the production designer...

"Doomsday isn't just the final act... We are able to tell a story in a fresh way. Doomsday is an evolution essentially. Fans may be aware of 'The Death of Superman' story, but this is handled in such a new way.

When the film is called Batman v or versus Superman, it really has a lot of levels to the meaning. Superman isn't just killed off at the end of something. We see how he evolves as part of Lex's plan to protect the world.

Seeing the Superman we know, be gone, and then replaced with this reproduction is really going to make fans think of how we look at these super beings. It was especially interesting to figure out, how would you create Superman from Zod... then how would that evolve into Doomsday."

I don't even know how to respond to that...

My wife's response was "I knew it was too good to be true."

So the ancient inhuman banished from earth was a slug?  Or maybe it was a symbiote...  ;D

I thought it was supposed to be a shape-shifter rather than a body-snatcher, but I won't quibble.  Looks like it absorbs the memories of the host.  I still don't know if they're going to tie it to something from the Mavel comic universe.

So what are people's reactions?  I've seen mostly negative responses from friends on Facebook.  One called it "Aggressively Terrible."  I thought it was pretty -meh- but not embarrassingly bad.  Except for Eisenberg - that's perhaps the worst villain casting since Mr. Freeze.

But then I had low expectations after MoS, and this trailer fits squarely with those expectations.  Maybe I'm mostly reading reactions from people who thought it would be good.

Supes removed Batman's eye make-up faster than you could see!  Maybe he just gave him a full make-over.

Why did he look sick btw?  WTF?

He's suffering from PTSD.  Given that it's TV, they're making him look sickly.

Gotta hand one thing to the Bieber - he's got good taste.

The whole "it takes 15 extra seconds to walk up one step on a ladder or over a fence" thing has got to stop as well.

Dumbest move ever - handing over two guns to a dude holding a knife.

Biggest plot fail ever - psycho wolf dude who has declared his intention to kill everyone gets two guns in his hands, and then walks out without killing anybody.

I think the story has gotten too conventional.  Now we expect each character's story to wrap up before they bite it (or, more accurately, get bit).  In the first few seasons, it didn't work that way.  It felt like anybody but Rick could die at any time.  Bad decisions had immediate, fatal consequences.  And you could do everything right and still have a house fall on you.  Now that's gone.

I think the writers like the characters/actors too much now.  I remember when Beth died, one of the showrunners went on about how it sucked to kill anybody off because that meant they didn't get to work together any longer.  I understand the core folks are supposed to be very competent at this point, and wouldn't die as easily.  But now they just live on for no good reason despite idiocy.

Looking forward to mid-season when they come up with some stupid reason why the bikers don't gun down the folks from the truck.  "Now go back and tell your people that Negan's coming for them!"  Or maybe it'll be a kidnap and torture thing.

I thought it sounded like the dead were in there, shuffling around.

Funny - seems like Ward is generating almost Joeffrey-like hatred from some of you guys.   ;D

I actually like him as the foil.  I'll be sad to see him eventually buy it.  Though I think they still have something in store with his relationship with Daisy.

SHIELD sure did a heck of a job this week tying up every single loose end into one cohesive plot.  I was thinking "Oh, the alien planet thing - that's a totally different plot from The Inhumans."  "Oh the Ward revenge thing - that's not connected at all to The Inhumans."

But... NOPE!  Everything is The Inhumans.

I can't imagine they planned all this from the beginning.  I'm talking Cap: First Avenger beginning.  Because that'd just be ridiculous.

Any guesses on the Hydra Leader on the alien planet?

Couldn't you just launch a stick of dynamite down the road?  They'd hear a bang and start in that direction.  And then continue moving...

Why would anyone choose Sasha over Rosita???

Abraham isn't all there.

Different strokes.  Rosita is gorgeous, but she's also not all that bright and she's kind of needy.  Sasha post-breakdown seems a bit more capable.

I say, it's the apocalypse - why not both??

I haven't read any of the Negan books - I'm trying to stay a season behind with the books - but I expect the whole kneeling thing is part of his gig.  I'm thinking he's king of the wasteland.  Submit to his will, and he takes care of you.
