JD Sports Forum! / JediDefender 2003 Fantasy Football!
« on: July 8, 2003, 11:48 AM »
There are a bunch of free Fantasy Football sites out there and I have tried this before and it has never, ever worked but thought I'd give it another chance to see if anyone would want to play

Ideally I'd like 8 people...first come first serve and we could probably have up to 12. †Let me know here and if not I can try again next year and just play in my real world league ;)

Watto's Junk Yard / Movies that make you cry
« on: June 23, 2003, 11:45 AM »
 :'(

I am never ashamed to admit that some movies just have that certain oomph to reduce me to tears every time I see them

From the obvious

The end of Saving Private Ryan
Schindler's List

To the not so obvious

I cry every time E.T. goes home, I always wanted to be Elliott, and the fact he died and came back makes for some stellar cinema

Notice how there are 3 Spielberg movies here

I also cried profusely during the schlock fest called City of Angels with Nic Cage and Meg Ryan.  My wife and I were in the process of tying the knot and the song (In the arms of the angel) and moment just hit us right I guess and we both just broke down

I also remember sobbing profusely when Han was put into the carbon chamber...poor guy

Oh and my mom and dad tease me to this day that I used to cry during the Wizard of Oz because I was scared of the flying mokets and I didn't think Dorothy was ever going to make it home

I guess I am a big softy...

In a continuation of previous Defender Wish Lists, we move along to the final movie of the Original Trilogy: Return of the Jedi.  Fuzzy little teddy bears, gigantic gangster slugs and a plethora of aliens dot this movie and make it full of undone favorites.   There are some badly needed resculpts as well.   Feel free to send in your lists via e-mail: spearson@jedidefender.com or post them here.

If you need help coming up with names check out the Official Sites Databank:   Episode VI.  Also check out Red 6 for even more great charcters (and petition supporters) :P

Have fun and thanks for sending in your lists (remember to limit it to ten)!

Be it your spouse, your family, your other non-SW friends?

My buddies tease me incessantly about my "On-Line Star Wars buddies" even though we belong to a group of "On-Line Fantasy Football Buddies" as I like to point out.  I like to point out little know facts and cool things I pick up here, show them some of the latest new toys coming out etc.

I sometimes talk with my wife about a humorous incident that happened or Matt's Bulky Sweater but usually about the time her eyes glaze over I stop and then she teases me a little

Watto's Junk Yard / JD Book Club: What Are You Reading Now?
« on: June 6, 2003, 10:35 AM »
I just finsihed on the plane ride home yesterday The Silmarillion[/i] which is history of Elves in Middle Earth.  The thing is epic in proportion and may be my all time favorite book.  It is a very difficult read though.  There are like 200 names you need to keep track of so I was only able to read 3-4 pages a night.  The whole world that Tolkien created to supplement the history of LOTR is so rich and detailed and stunning.  You really have no idea until you read it all.  The gods, the elves, men, what went wrong etc etc  You can see some really cool almost Biblical connotations throughout the book...why do we die and is better to die than it would be to live forever?  It will definitely require a second reading just to make sure I have it all down and it will go a lot quicker then next time

Next up is Breakfast of Champions[/i] by Kurt Vonnegut.  I read this back in college but probably did not appreciate it very much so I am rereading it. :-*

After that I am not sure what I will go for, I may dive back into the Hobbit or I may go onto something else entirely.

The Prequel Trilogy / Tarkin
« on: May 30, 2003, 02:37 PM »
The latest Homing Beacon also features Tarkin in the corner (As did the last one).  I read somewhere that Chewie was featured in 2 Homing Beacon Corners before he was announced as coming back for Episode III...

I think our man may not be too far behind and something I have been wanting to see forever...yes sir I will build you a Death Star

The Prequel Trilogy / Anakin and Padme...
« on: May 30, 2003, 02:32 PM »
New spoilerish stuff from the Latest Homing Beacon

As an artist and director, Iain McCaig keeps a busy schedule with his own creative projects. When Episode II entered pre-production, there was some question as to whether or not heíd return to the Art Department team that helped envision George Lucasí growing Star Wars universe. McCaig did indeed come back, but the same question arose when Episode III started down the conceptual development path. Once again, McCaig found that he couldnít resist the call to return to the galaxy far, far away.

"Itís an artist thing," laughs McCaig. "Whatever you make -- itís corny to say -- but they actually are your children in some ways. Helping create Anakin and Padmé in Episode I, I couldnít abandon them after that. I needed to know what happened and see them through to their final moments. You want to accompany your kids as far as you can go."

Episode III is the final chapter detailing what fans already know is a bleak resolution for Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala. The Chosen One succumbs to the call of the dark side, with disastrous consequences for those he loves. McCaig notes satisfaction with the way this transformation currently exists, as words on the script pages and accompanying artwork.

"In Episode I, when we saw Jake Lloyd, we wondered whereís the dark side? Why isnít this kid creepy?" recounts McCaig. "And then, in Episode II, Hayden Christensen came across as a justifiably angry teenager more than a kid who crosses over to the true dark side. Killing the Sand People... they killed his mom! I could go mad and do something like that. So, I kept waiting for the dark side to take hold. In this film, you realize, itís more about Anakin making the wrong choices. Heís given a glorious moment by George -- Iím so happy with part of the script -- where he truly has to make a choice. In the end, I think thatís a smarter way to go than a slow transformation. Itís more tragic this way."

Tragedy follows the beautiful Amidala as well. Since Episode I, McCaig has helped develop Padméís intricate costumes, which often serve as reflections of her political position, and where she is in her life. "What are we wearing this year in Star Wars?" smiles McCaig. "In Episode I, she was the Queen, and she was wearing disguises. I once said she should be able to slip out of the back of the costume, and youíd never know she was gone. Ironically, in this one, sheís back to wearing disguises. As well as now hiding this marriage to a Jedi, which is not allowed, she has to hide the fact that sheís going to have babies. All of the costumes had to disguise these facts."

I'm not into these at all but a lot of the Asian eBayers seem to have serious connections at the factory or know places that do good fakes cause they always have a ton...

Anyone collect them?

I saw this auction for a Prototype Jorg Sacul this morning

Watto's Junk Yard / My new love...Chipotle Burritos
« on: May 27, 2003, 02:22 PM »
These are fairly new to Minnesota and there is one right down the road from my house...I cannot say how much I love this place.

I usually go for the Barbacoa (spicy shredded beef) with hot Salsa, Black beans, Sour Cream and Cheese and then add in some Chipotle Tabasco for good measure.

Sure its fast food and sure they are owned by Satan but if you haven't tried it, you are missing out!
