I gave up carded collecting a while ago but I love seeing how people display their carded collections and your stuff is pretty awesome austinPOTF.  I remember saying the same thing about only getting a Darth Vader and Luke in 1995...oops

Thanks, OCB. I just love staring at the carded product. At the same time, I do enjoy setting up the dioramas with the openers.

I got started late, around June '99 right after EP1 came out. What began as a trip to TRU to ONLY purchase the Darth Maul and Darth Sidious 3 3/4" figures turned into, well, you know how it goes.  :-[

My five month-old loves to stare at all of the figures lined up in perfect rows. All of the bright colors are eye candy to him and he really enjoys hanging out in Dad's toy room. I honestly can't wait until he's old enough to appreciate what I've assembled. Don't worry, you militant openers, he's got plenty of seconds to play with when the time comes.  ;)

That set is/was exclusive to the Official SW Convention of Mexico...

Info on the Two-Pack

The convention starts today I think, and that set will set you back 250 pesos (approx $25 USD), IF you can find someone in Mexico to nab you one... ;)

It is not known if it will be released anywhere else, but there were some rumors that it may end up at StarWarsShop.com in the fall, but this is not confirmed.

Jeff

Thanks. I knew it was a show exclusive, but I thought you had a bead on someone (E-tailer) that could put it in my hands now for $25.  ;)

Cool, but not worth $25 in my book...

Jeff

Uh, where can I snag one for $25?  :)

You wanna see some PO'd people?  See anyone who never got an EU figure or RY/DST because of the repacks.

I forgot all about the EU fiasco. I do remember reading the stories when I first got into SW collecting back in '99. I assembled a complete EU collection WAY after the fact through ebay auctions and very shrewed trades for VHTF EP1 and POTF2 Commtech figures at toy shows. I screwed scalpers out of EU figures the likes of Mara, Kyle, Dark Trooper and Spacetrooper for EP1 "Swimming JarJars".

Hell, at one show I screwed a scalper out of a case-fresh (literally opened before my eyes) 1995 Snowspeeder for a $6.99 Admiral Motti just because the actor was at the show. He wanted $40 for that Speeder and figured it was an even trade.  Thing is, I had two more in my backpack. :P

The problem I DO have is that the same figure (Cantina Han) has been recarded/repacked to death this year... at least 4 times in the last 16 months:

Saga 2003
Saga HoF
OTC
Pack-In with Sam's Club Falcon
* and potentially a 5th time with a new Cup set

Can you say overkill?  The same figure in FIVE different forms over 16 months is TOO MANY.  Completely different from re-issueing the figure ONCE per year on a new card!  If they had found a way to spread out the different Han sculpts over all those re-packs, there'd be less complaining for sure...

So, that's my biggest beef with the repacks.  Not that they are repacking figures, but the sheer volume of repacking the SAME figure five times over the last year!

Jeff

OK. This I can definitely understand. Since I all but dropped the SW line for a couple of years, I had NO IDEA it was like that. I actually had to look up HoF figures. No idea...

I'm a carded collector save for anything that has to do with the Cantina or Jabba's Palace dioramas that I keep adding openers to.

My plan for VOTC is simple. Buy one set of everything and discard the clam shell.  :o My reasoning is this. I couldn't care less about the clam shell save for the fact it will maintain the integrity of the card back and bubble during shipping and retail display. I want to display the figures carded, but since they are not punched I can't just hang them by the peg. Instead, I'm going to put them in Star Cases for hanging display because there is NO WAY I'm going to let the stock clam shell hide that oh so nostalgic Kenner logo. :D

I'll pick up extras of figures like Han for opening because you just can't pass that up incredible sculpt.

on the Freeze Frame cards like all the wailing we see about POTF2 Commtech/POTJ/Saga re-packs on the OTC cards? I ask because I wasn't around for the POTF2 Red/Green cards and didn't pick up any POTF2 figs until TRU had the massive FF blowout that helped me gather up 42 of the 52 FF figs.

Personally, the re-packs don't bother me that much since I skipped on a majority of the POTJ/Saga stuff. I love the OTC card backs so much I don't think I'd care either way.

New member here, old member of the community (SSG/BHC/GH).

I dropped out of collecting for a couple of years, but jumped right back in with the OTC. Passed on the Bespin wave last Tuesday only to grab three on Friday and the other 17 on Sunday. I guess you could say I'm back in the game with all 20.  Here we go again. ::)

I REALLY like the OTC stuff because I didn't pick up most of the POTJ/Saga re-cards to begin with. Most will be brand new to me. Doesn't hurt that the cardbacks are stunning and very attractive when grouped together either.
