I'll probably post in a few places, but the 3-D figures just hit a few days ago at my 5 Below in Pittsburgh.  Grabbed the yellow astromech, Destroyer droid, mawhonic, etc. etc.  $5ea.  Note: the fighter pod 4 packs that were $3ea. are gone.. pretty quickly I might add.

Dave Prowse is going to be signing at the April 5-7, 2013 Steel City con.  Details below:

http://www.steelcitycon.com/

I've seen him numerous times, and have a bunch of stuff autographed by him.  One thing to keep in mind, is that a lot of the original SW folks are getting up there in age.  You just never know when the last time will be that you can get an auto or one last photo op with some folks may be.

I bought a Deluxe Vader costume last month.  I may just bring the hemlmet and have hom sign it.

See you there!

Bob

I've been on figure overload lately, as I decided to grab everything I missed this year from different sources.  Usually I wait 6 months before buying stuff of Ebay, but I really was just so bored with no new figs, that I had to get something.

I got Ponda Baba, Death Squad Commander, Hoth Rebel Guy, the "Internet Only" wave, and a few others...Kithaba.  I haven't even opened most of them but I have to say, the ones that are open are excellent.  Hasbro has never made better product.

I'm going to open these slowly, as it will be the fall before new stuff hits.

Funny, I was just going to post when I read yours...

I think a break is greatly needed. If retailers scale back, Hasro takes a bit of a break...it wouldn't be a bad thing.  It will purge some product off the secondary markeet, and give folks a chance to catch thier breath over hte last 15 years of product overload.  in years past you cold search completed autons and find pages of "red" auctions that didn't sell, ately it seems a lot of stuff is selling.  This is good for the hobby in gneral.  You can get rid of any extra stuff you have lying around, fill in holes in your collection, basically clean house before the new movies hit in 2 years.  Lots of changes rigt now.

I took a few year break where I didn't feel I needed to try and grab everything put out.  I never got out of it, just not at the pace I was at.  Timing was good.  I can now go back and try and hi clearances, shows, etc. take my time and get what I need without the frantic pace I was at for 15+ years.  Over the last couple years, I just would by an item here or there when it was a good deal.  A few vintage boxes I needed, a book here, a comic there.  Just stuff i never gt around to.  Was just as fun as the mad grab Idid for all ths years....and I spent a heck of a lot less!

Don't get burnt out, relax takea breather and have fun with it.

I'd say it's a bit of a gamble too.  Brian's would have to order a certain number to carry the exclusive, but given their store's size it's tough to say if they could order a boatload or not.  Ordering when I did, I am completely satisfied with it.  At $33 with no coupon codes I think I maybe would've passed.  Really would've regretted not getting the accessories though.

Looks likea nice figure.   I'm just looking over the last 15 years whenever there's any exclusve offered well above a "normal" asking price..in this example let's say a single figure ("normal" being about $7-$10)  MANY of these "exclusives" seem to eventually end up on ebay at about half thier original asking price.

Celebration exclusives, the talkin Vader, the silver anniv. fgs that were being offered at various convetions for a few years, any exclusives, TRU exclusives, Target exclusives, etc.etc..  you name it.  $33 seems to be at the top of the list for any single carded figure that I've seen.  Just always seems to be lately a similar mentality around SW that when something comes out it's originally offered a rediculously high prce (i.e. take advantage of everone who needs one first or feels they have to hurry an buy before it's "sold out"), then it eventually goes on a few rounds of sales or Special offer prices, then eventually hits it's it final absolute low clearance price... which at that point the price is so low they get wiped out/sold out.  If you can get the timing down, and get an item on the last clearance price (or as cloe to it as you can), you could probably have about 3X the items in your collection vs. buying everything at it's original offered price.  This particular item just seems to scream clearance deal eventually.

Also, not saying this practice is wrong in any way (Heck, if I was a company, I'd do the same)  However, bing a collector, and NOT a company, I'm just looking at it through the eyes of a collector...be smart about your purchases, and hoping to save folks (maybe newer folks to the hobby) a lot of $ and frustration in the end.  Hopefully have more fun with it.

Why do I get the feeling these will eventually be half price?

I haven't seen any new figs at 5 Below since aroudn the holidays (I hit the one in Monroeville, and occasionally the one in Pigh Mills)!

If you think of it and ever see new figs show up there, please shoot me an email.  I've been trying to gra one of ea. now that they are $5.

Thanks!

By the way they just got in the Fighter Pods.  4 packs are $3.  At that price, I grabbed 2 packs for the kids.

Just saw the Fighter Pods at 5 Below this AM!

They have the 4 packs for $3.  Not too bad a deal.  Grabbed 2 packs for the kids.  FYI, the sets I saw seemed to have the same handful of characters..lots of doubles between the packs they had. For example, they had about 10 packs on the shelf, 4 or 5 of those had Jar Jar, another 4 or 5 had silver C-3PO.

The Black Series 3.75" Figures / Re: So...2013...What Now?
« on: January 15, 2013, 12:48 PM »
hahaa.

Back to the original qestion.  Hasbro is always petty good for keeping the line going through the ups/downs...movie years/non-movie years.  Thye have REALLY pumped out the product over the years.  I won't mind at all seeing a break for the summer.  Maybe come back and hit it with the 3-D movie tie-ins on and off over the next 2 years.

From a collectors standpoint, I think it lets everyone get caught up, gets everything in order for the new moves in a few years.    From a company standpoint they just want to keep the product rolling out, and it makes sense.  I'm excited for the new movies, but if they keep pumping out rehashes for 2 years...ugh..I can see the collector burnout starting to hit.  I went through it for a few years not too long after ROTS.  Sometmes a little break is all you need.

I think a lo are going back ad flling in holes, which is great for SW collecting.  Purges some product off the  secondary market,  lets everone take a  breather and get focused.  I may even finish the search for the last couple comics I need.  God, I'm hoping theydon't get carried away wth the LE Variant covers..the whole money grab LE/variant thing has been handled quite well in the comics category, hope it stays that way.

Should be a fun year!

Jocasta's Reading Room / Re: Comics- Star Wars #1
« on: January 14, 2013, 09:38 AM »
WOW...here's the latest on SW #1:

* Sold out in 24hrs. !!!!  That' pretty good for a SW comic.
* A second printing is scheduled.  Supposedly the second print will only have the Alex Ross art, no text.
* There are going to be 4 variant covers coming out around the time of issues #4-#7. Interesting, and want all of them!
* The first print of SW #1 (checking into it the first weekend after it came out 1/13/2013) is going anywhere from about $10 to $30+.  That's fantastic... I don't think I've seen this much excitement for a SW comic since around Dark Empire!

Love it!  All good news!

Jocasta's Reading Room / Dark Horse Star Wars Series
« on: January 11, 2013, 01:51 PM »
In regards to the new ongoing series, SW #1 came out 1/9/2013.   Apparently the first printing sold out, and they are ALREADY doing a second print.  Wow.  Great news.

Supposedly the second printing will have the Logo, wording etc. on the back cover or inside back cover or something.  The cover will be just the plain Alex Ross art (not saying his art is plin, just that there will be no text over it).

Interesting.

By the way it's a great read!  Great art.  Vader is done a bit differently than you sometimes see him.. a slight bit of a Manga style to him.  i'm ot a fan of Manga, but this works for me.  Pretty good stuff.

Highly recommend!

Merry Christmas!

I think this board needs a spell chekr.   :-[

Yeah,

I try to log on at work from time to time and fly through about 3 or 4 sites, and blast as many posts as I can in a short amount of time.  unfortunately, my PC at work is crap, runs extremely slow, sticks, an often I just hit send.  If I went back and spellchecked everything I'd be here all freakin day.  Pain in the @.

Side note.. I was able to snag a Darth Vader supreme costume this weekend for $300. I thought it was a steal, and usually can't find one under $400 on ebay!  Should look good in the collection room once I get a mannequin for it.  I'll need one that's at least 6'2"  I'd like to have it in one corner and my vintage ROTJ arcade game  in the opposite corner.  Might motivate me to get the arcade games out of the garage.

The Vintage Collection '10-'13 / $3 figures
« on: December 21, 2012, 03:28 PM »
I responded to a recent postat PSWCS.  The had a handful of VC figs at about $3 ea.  Bought 4.

A few notes...

1) gohastings.com loads up my eail with ads. Had torespond to stp that.
2) Thyship in a mailer envelope,s 2 showed up minty, 2 had dinged bubbles.

Just a waring in case you have to have minty figs.

Not complaining as for $3 it's still a decent deal.  (Ended up bing abou $4ea. once shipping is figured in)

Collector's Tips / Great inexpensive plastic cases!
« on: December 21, 2012, 03:18 PM »
Just an idea I thought I'd share. (no idea why it took me so long to post)  Clear Plastic cases on a budget!

I had a leftover clear plastic case for stadard size footballs.  The loose vintage Jabbas playset fits in it perfectly! It looks like I spent a fortune on the case!

I was able to find some plastic cases for under $10 I beleive, and I know Michaels and other places have some that go on thier half off sale every so often (footballs, basketballs, etc.)and they have some nice high end ones on sale from time to time as well.  Even the cheap ones look great, and while not exactly made for SW collectibles, they work great on certan items without having to spend the $$$$ for custom jobs (even though I have some great Oscars cases custom cases as well).

Conventions / Re: Pittsburgh's "Steel City Con" Toy & Collectible Show
« on: December 21, 2012, 01:39 PM »
It was good to see eveyone this year.  Was able to hit up BWW with the PSWCS (how's that for using abbreviations?) Had some fun and some trades landed me the following:

* Some more Topps Galactic Files cards and a little bit closer to completing the collection.
* A gammorean Guard- Thanks Jesse!
* A VC ARC TRooper
* A Club Fett poster auto'd by the artist at the show.
* A Mon Mothma Celebration auto's 8X10 to add to the 8x10 autograph wall at home. (already had Caroline's auto on the fig and poster, jut not on an 8X10.

Show was pretty good as it usually has been. Was able to snag:

* Some carded VC figs (some unpunched) for $5ea. including the Luke Lightsaber deleted scene.
*  A few more LE Silver base Attactix figs.  Not really actively looking for them, but over the years I have been able to grab a bunch of the silver base variations, so if I happen to see any in the clearance bins, or boxes at shows and conventions, I'll grab them.  Got about 4 of them for $2 total, not bad.
* That's about it.  GF grabbed some misc SW and superhero figs for the kids for Xmas.

As far as what SW was at the show...the vintage is becoming scarce, and the little there rends to be pretty pricey.  one of the Ohio guys sets up shop every year and is about the only reasonably priced when it comes to vintage SW.

POTF2, POTJ, EPI...all in a lot less quantities.   Used to find a ton of these in clearance bins/boxes for $2-$3ea. carded.  Now it's more like $5 and up.  Loose you used to be able to grab most for $1-$2, now it's more like $3 or $4ea.  So the early modern is getting a bit tougher to spot, and the prices seem to be slowly creeping up on those.

The recently released modern is rediculously priced.  $40-$50 for some of the very HTF modern figs, not a ton of them available, but enought that they shouldn't be that much.  The latest VC wave wasn't all over the place like I thought it would be, but most from that wave were $14 and up, with a coupld going as high as $40.

All and all a great show, lots of fun, good seeing everyone...mission accomplished!
