No real surprise but nothing new in this months update.

Kubricks / Kubrick Prototypes
« on: August 16, 2013, 02:28 AM »
Has anyone every seen a kubrick prototype before? One that's for sale?

I haven't. And it just happens to be the prototype for one of the harder to come by and most sought after Star Wars kubricks around.

This has got to go for big dollars, right? Or am I making too big of a deal about this?

This is pretty unique.

More vintage homages is a direction I could live with, like the recent DX4 and carded Tie Pilot. Off the top of my head I'm not that familiar with the vintage figures so I thought I'd throw together a couple of comparisons.

Yak face

A repaint could easily be done, it's subtle but different. Kind of like the series 7 Anakin chase and the vintage repaint that was put on a card.

I only just noticed now that Yak face doesn't have regular kubrick hands.

Walrus man

A plain body with basic colours like Hammerhead's with a Walrus head.

Another almost too easy one is Greedo. Just remove the vest and orange and replace with two shades of green.

Medicom is really into only doing repaints of existing kubs so lets see some wishlists for characters that require only new paint, maybe some slight retooling for hair or something.

Some I've come up with.

Translucent blue hologram Luke:

Black Death Star Droid:

X-Wing pilot Biggs:

Green A-Wing pilot:

Lobot (new communication thing clips over protruding ears)

He obviously would have legs. Professor X is just a good reference for a bald head.

AT-ST Driver (spot the difference)

It's a obvious joke, there is none. I wouldn't say no to a straight re-issue ;)

That's a pretty good basis right there for a 5 pack, it's just a shame they came to an end a long time ago.

There's also the umpteenth R2, C-3PO and Chewbaccas but I've had my fill of them.

Let's see some creative ideas.

Cool, thanks for the quick response.

Yeah, when I was putting the above side by side picture together the quailty of the two really stands out. It almost looks like the DX4 chase is a bootleg of the series 6 Officer.

For those that own both chases, is the second Imperial Officer a re-paint of the first i.e. same hat/hairpiece and skirt piece?

^

I love this post. A reissued Logray would make my head spin.

I've seen pictures from the festival of Medicom's booth and there are no kubricks to be seen (no surprise there) nor a carded exclusive. In previous years I'm pretty sure they've displayed the carded exclusive among the regular products.

So no repurposed old kubrick put on a card for the Summer Fest just like the past Winter Fest, only new be@rbricks and RAHs.

Kubricks / Wonder Fest Summer 2013
« on: July 22, 2013, 11:03 PM »
The Summer Wonder Fest begins 28 July in Japan and once again Medicom will be there. No word yet if they'll be a carded exclusive like in previous years, maybe tomorrows update will shed some light on this.

Last Summer's Wonder Fest brought us the very underwhelming Royal Guard on a card and this past Winter there wasn't an exclusive but I enjoyed the previous chromed droids so I'll keep my fingers crossed for something.

Kubricks / Re: Recent Acquisitions

There's a bit of a theme happening here in the last few posts, I just BIN'ed the Limited Edition 2007 Box Set for $200 USD. Of course it had to happen right after the Aussie dollar takes a slide.

It's been that holy grail piece for a while and with there not being any other kubrick action I can afford to splash out $200. The 2008 and 2009 box sets have been going for some 'reasonable' prices comparative to what they used to sell for.

One small problem this purchase has created is I already own the Droids C-3PO and A-Wing Pilot that I purchased loose back in the day for about $40 each. I'm not in any hurry to get rid of them but if someone wants them let me know.

Apart from a few uber rare and expensive chases that I'll never own I think that's it for Star Wars kubricks.

Thanks for the confirmation both JediJman and Dan.

Yeah, no new kubricks means more to spend on my way more expensive hobbies.

No return of the jedi text? A missed opportunity.

Thanks for the pics Jeff.

So much for the idea for the give away carded exclusive to be from ROTJ. But when am I every right trying to guess these things?

R5-D4 Is so random, but eh whatever it's better for me when it is not desirable. A holo Luke I would want.

It should be noted that Medicom are putting out new SW stuff i.e. the new tie pilot RAH, so it's not a license issue that's preventing us from getting new kubricks.

Question for you guys: Was it ever definitively confirmed that the DX vintage Kenobi and the one that was put on a card for the Parco show had different paint jobs i.e. white versus grey hair?

The reason I ask is because in the medicom toy manual the same picture is used so I assumed they were probably the same kubrick. I obviously don't own the carded version but I'm sure some one that does can say otherwise.

I'm not trying to bust you balls I'm generally curious, how would they do a Bespin Han different from this:

And at the risk of Medicom putting out another redundant C-3PO:

... unless you absolutely need at carry bag accessory.

Other than that I very much like your optimistic list. Throw in a couple of Jabba's Palace denizens and Medicom could almost satisfactorily call it a day.

And I think the Toy Exhibition begins on the 22nd so hopefully we'll see something a bit sooner.

They haven't done a Hologram Jedi Luke have they? Surprisingly you think it would be an easy one to do and it would have come before a Hologram Vader.

..and it is from ROTJ.

It only just dawned on me that Medicom chose C-3PO and R2 because it's the 30th anniversary of ROTJ and these two are obviously ROTJ variants easy enough to put on a ROTJ card. Why 3PO and R2, well Medicom loves protocol and astromech droids ;)
