Because of a suggestion by Darth_Ennis, I've started this thread to collect past Group Project entries. Group Projects are something I started over at RebelScum a few years ago. It has moved from FFURG and now to here. So far we have had twelve projects over two years.

The idea behind the group project is that we all create the same character based on any reference pictures we can find. We discuss parts to use and customizing techniques. We are suppost to post work in progress pictures of the character.

In this thread, I'm going to start off with Group Project 9 which was based completely here at JD. You can check out Group Projects 1-8 over at FFURG on this page: http://www.ffurg.com/casting_call/cc-48.htm

Here is a listing of past Group Projects:

Group Project 1: Biggs Darklighter in Imperial Academy Uniform
Group Project 2: Adult Clonetrooper in Kamino Training Gear / Queen Amidala's Handmaidens
Group Project 3: ANH Infinities Leia Organa / Kenny Baker as R2-D2
Group Project 4: KOTOR Mission Vao and Carth
Group Project 5: Crossovers (Muppets, Lunney Tunes, Peanuts, Simpsons, etc.)
Group Project 6: Santa Wookiees
Group Project 7: Mon Calamari Dancer and Fem-bot
Group Project 8: Snoova and Jedi Defender self customs
Group Project 9: Tonnika Sisters
Group Project 10: Clone Wars TV Series (minus the clones)
Group Project 11: Rykrof Enloe
Group Project 12: Ysanne Isard and Admiral Daala
Group Project 13: Jango Fett

Star Wars Action Figures / Aayla Secura finished
« on: March 5, 2006, 04:54 PM »
No not the actress but the Microlady version! ;D  After the success of the Microlady Slave Girl Leia, I've decided to follow it up with a Microlady version of Aayla Secura. As you can see I've added the head. Now I need to mix some paint to make the body match the head. Any suggestions on color or paint combinations for this?

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Casting of the Twins - wip
« on: February 27, 2006, 11:09 AM »
Probably like alot of you, I was unable to find the walmart exclusive separations of the twins . I know the walmarts around me have active scalpers that have back door deals with stock boys. Most of the time stuff doesn't even make it to the floor.

Anyway, I'm wondering if someone has opened the twins and is willing to allow me to cast them.

I mentioned this idea over in Chewie's figure thread but here it is for your consideration. What if we as a group made our own takes on Chewie's Rykrof character? You can make him in any outfit you want as long as it can be identified as Rykrof.

Once we are all done, we can send them to Chewie to include in a photonovel about Rykrof getting cloned and he having to fight his way out of the cloning facility. There could be the twist of do we know if the original Rykroff survives?

What do you think?

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Magnifing glass?
« on: February 18, 2006, 10:55 PM »
Does anyone know where I can get one these fairly cheap? I think it would be great for painting customs, holding parts for dremeling and clamping down parts as they dry. Does anyone use something like this for their projects?

One of the projects I've started to work on is a super actuated slave girl Leia using the MicroLady body. So far I've added the head and collar. As you can see she is extremely...ahh...flexible. ;)

I need suggestions on a paint color to match the potf2 slave girl leia head. What color or mixture of colors would you use to paint the body?

Other Custom Figures (non Star Wars) / Postman figure?

Does anyone have a suggestion for a postman body? I just got my Major Derlin and would like to someday make a Cliff Claven.

Since the monthly customizing challange is focusing on playsets this month and next, it was suggested we extend the group project to any character that appeared in the Clone Wars TV series. Since we've seen so many clones, lets try to avoid doing them and focus on other characters that havn't been done to death. There are some cool customs in the creatures that Ventress had to fight in the arena or some of the aliens in the crowd sequence where Anakin tracks down Padme. Maybe those weird looking tribal aliens from vol 2. A kick as Durge would be cool or his IG lancer droids.

You can make modern, vintage or cartoon versions of any character that appeared in the miniseries except clones. No alternate costumes this time around. The two main ones suggested are Snowbunny Padme and Yoda.

The deadline for this is February 28th.

I've finally gotten around to painting up my Cody. Right now he has all the coloring but needs weathering, chipping and his rank badge painted. Lets talk about weathering techniques. What is the best way to simulate scratches and chips? I want to have him look like he's been in a dusty environment. What colors should I use? How much of the body should be washed? Is a dry wash better and than a light wash?

Here we are at the beginning of our ninth group project. We've been doing these things since April 2004. You can see past group projects over at the FFURG Casting Calls. This time our subject will be a set of figures that Hasbro will never make not matter how much we beg and plead - the Tonnika Sisters.

Deadline for this project is the end of the year. That will give everybody something to do during Christmas vacation. It also gives you a good excuse to avoid visiting your mother-in-law because you need to get your figures done for us.  ;) I know, like that will fly.

Let's start looking for fodder and reference material for these girls. You're allowed to card them but its not necessary. Vintage or modern versions are OK. The sisters can be in any outfit you desire but they must be recognizable as the Tonnika sisters.

Let's get busy.

Here are some of my favorite customs of the sisters.

« on: October 21, 2005, 01:09 PM »
I've recently been listening to alot of star wars pod casts from star wars fanworks.com and one subject that never seems to be talked about is customizing. Does anyone know of any pod cast episodes that talk about customzing?

Does anyone have a good reference shot for the Glasslite Vlix? I have a casting of one and would like to match the paint as close as I can.
