I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to see how Cory has come up with dubbing History of Violence "Hulk 2".

And dropping Darren Aronofsky's name, what's up with that? Didn't you just watch Pi and Requiem like a week or two ago for the first time? I bet you hadn't even heard of Darren when you watched History of Violence.

Why do you insist on referencing me like I don't post here, or don't read these? I saw both movies, when they were released on DVD no less. That said, you bet wrong. I also think you're confusing me with Rob who recently started getting into Cronenberg movies a few of months back, not that it matters or is relevant to why we like someone's work.

The Hulk analogy is simple. Guy gets pissed, guy gets violent. It was a sarcastic quip that sprouted wings and flew right past everyones collective head.

It's clear from earlier posts that Cory isn't into non-mainstreen Cinema.
No offense, but you're totally clueless, bro. I actually have a strong dislike for most mainstream movies. Just because I'm opinionated, and don't suck up to everyone's favorite director's latest attempt doesn't mean I condemn indies.  Of course, there's no fun in actually looking into what I like, especially when there's so much of it to be had in ignoring similairites in favor ot exploiting differences. "The Brood" happens to be one of my all time favorite movies. By whom? David ******* Cronenberg.

Looking at his DVD collection I'd say that Cory's probably more into mainstream cinema than most people.

What a crock of ****. I'm not even going to counter that because I know it's untrue. Not that anyone else here is capable of independent thought to see things my way.

Elitist groupthink mentality at work. To think I thought of myself as somewhat of a movie snob.

That wasn't so hard, now was it?  ;D

As for Cronie's history, he hit his stride long ago. 3 movies in the past 3 decades; Videodrome, The Fly, and Naked Lunch IN that order.

That's my opinion, and all I feel I need to say about it. "A History fo Violence" aka "The Hulk 2", started off on the right foot, somewhat capitivating storyline, then delved into a preachy melodrama with a pathetic ending and absolutely no chemistry, with his signature bits tossed in to remind you it wasn't Darren Aronofski or Gregg Araki behind the lens afterall.

He's fairly overrated and forumlaic, IMHO. Granted, he's a great director, but art-house types tend to overpraise him whereas I see him as a hit or miss filmmaker, who pretty much peaked in the 80's, save "Naked Lunch".

I think the term "genius" is grossly overused, especially in entertainment. He's creative, and was once inventive, but using the same elements time and time again, and then applying them to a movie that they don't work in doesn't fly.

I'm looking forward to A History of Violence (release is next week) even though I have not seen it -

For those of you who have seen it, did you like it?

Not at all. Cronenberg, to me, furthur solidifed my opinion that his stuff doesn't belong in mainstream cinema. The premise was interesting, but never went anywhere. All brain, no guts if you ask me. Not to mention the lack of chemistry between Maria Bello and Aragorn, and their contrived sex scenes. Blech.  :P

I meant visually. Lack of colors depress me. That's why I fell asleep in Corpse Bride. :D

and Cueron's "dark" direction didn't really work, IMO.

Funny, that's why from a filmmaking standpoint I think #3 was the best of the bunch so far.  It was more serious than the first two and you didn't have to be a little kid to get into it as much.

I didn't like that it switched gears like that. I don't go to see Potter films for artistry in cinematography. It was too dark for me to enjoy, almost downright morbid, and they aged the characters too fast. "Goblet of Fire" went a whole different direction, had a stronger story, made it more epic and adventurous, thus more fun for me.

Quick question:  What exactly does the second disk from Harry Potter cover?  I got "scene it" as a bonus to buying the regular one-disk edition of Harry Potter IV but I don't own the game so it's rather a wash.  Should I go back and get the 2-disk version?  All I really want to see is the cut scenes and the regular movie.

The "Scene It" disc is only a few samples, not the entire game. The one disc edition is bare bones. The 2 disc is loaded. Additional scenes, cast convos, 4th film reflections, 9 Triwizard Tournament segments, DVD-ROM goodies.

There was about 3 minutes worth of marital infidelity in that movie IIRC.  I wouldn't suggest it's a focal point.

There was the "Wall of Shame" shots. There were passing around of their wives photos, commenting on their cheating. There was the viewing of a sex tape *** "The Deer Hunter" that definately lasted more than 3 minutes. There was Jake Gyllenhaal infront of the mirror "throwing up" sand when he saw his wife's image. There was the letter he recieved from his wife, more or less admitting her cheating. These were all tossed about the film, being revisited...and for what? It was filler, IMO. It made up for a large part of the movie.

It may have made for a nice book, but his little vacation to "war" was hardly movie material. **** happens, it's the armed forces, and "Jarhead" didn't show me anything new, other than ex-cons like Peter Saarsgard's character can simply lie about not serving jail time, and still wind up in Iraq, serving our country, and not even had a background check performed. It wasn't any more successful at capturing the savage decline of soliders at war than FMJ, which, while suffering a 2nd act shift itself, was still 100 times better, IMO.

I loathed "Prisoner of Azkaban", namely because of the gimmick, more or less replaying the first half of the movie in the second half. That, and Cueron's "dark" direction didn't really work, IMO.

Loved "Goblet of Fire", thought it was the best yet. I opted for Target's exclusive lenticular cover.

I'll leave "Jarhead" for you guys. Movies about going to war and not fighting, focusing on the maritial infidelity of soldiers ain't worth watching twice, IMO.  :P

I found ONE copy near me at Best Buy. There was a sign, suggesting whoever's interested, check for it at the new release section, which had no copies. The one I got was in the alphabetized Drama section. $19.99 with the sale and my RZ certificate.

I dropped about 60 titles from my library this weekend, and some boxed sets. Biggest pruning I've done in about a year, including my "24" sets. They just don't have any rewatch value, because you can't watch just one, lol.

Nothing next week aside from "Goblet of Fire". Everyone has some exclusive, but I think Target's lenticular cover is going to win me over.

My only exposure to AD would be maybe 1/4th of Season 1, and I thought it was brilliant. I worked late nights (..'til Midnight) through Season 2, so I didn't get to see it at all. So, I watched a couple of episodes at work on our down time and it's nothing short of genius. There's something about sitcoms without laugh tracks, that are genuinely funny and original. Arrested Development is one of them, and I think it's about time I added it to my roster.

Next week's somewhat big, and exciting, and fortunately I get paid on the 7th.

There are some Suncoast stores that are going out of business, just one locally. 30% seems to be the norm, but they have a 40% off 4 of more promotion, so I got "Biozombie", 2 Disc LE of "Versus", "Tetsuo: The Iron Man" SE, and the 2 disc "Toxic Avenger" 21st Ann. Editiob for about $60.

Dropped a combined $40 on the following today;

The Little Mermaid 2
Lady and the Tramp 2
What Women Want
Stone Cold Steve Austin - "What?"
BMWFILMS - The Hire
Reservoir Dogs - Mr. Pink Edition

...and this, for $3.99. Surprised to have found it where I did, given the clientele, considering there's nobody in the area that would be so DVD savvy as to subscribe to Short Cinema Journal.

It's "Shorts" DVD Vol. 5,  entitled "Diversity", featuring "Multifacial", Vin Diesel's debut film, the one that got Spielberg's attention. The rest is history.

It's ridiculously overpriced, as it is, and even at $12.99, I had to think it over, given it's only 6 episodes. But, almost 1/2 price, I figured I may as well.
