Hope Metallica's upcoming album is like their early work though.

Well Rick Rubin is on the board for the new one, so that's always a positive. Guy loves music, considering all the genres he's had his hands in as of late.

Rob, I warmed up to Mastodon just recently. I heard "Blood and Thunder" so many times, I got sick of it, but did a blind buy on "Blood Mountain" and fell in love. I picked up "Remission" and it's just incredible. I went as far as to say that these guys, with another album or two, could make it to TOOL territory, as far as prog-rock bands go, given I think King Crimson is vastly overrated.

I'm..uhhh..currently ruining my hearing with this one.

The Berzerker's "World of Lies". It's like Fear Factory on speed, mixed with Atari Teenage Riot, and some Carcass like death metal vocals. It's an audible assault, straight up. Just..the heaviest "music" I've ever heard, but I had to own atleast one album.

One of the best albums you've never heard. Mastodon's first album, "Remission".

As far as Metallica goes, stick with the chronological order and listen to all of them. "Kill 'Em All" and "Ride the Lightning" are on par with one another, IMO. Slight edge to KEA for "Damage Inc" alone. Of course "Master of Puppets" is pretty much flawless, and while "Justice" sounds very "trebley", thanks to no basslines, it's still a thrasher. "Black album" is good example of just rocking balls out. The "Load" era stuff is good rock and roll, not metal. The "Garage Inc" stuff has some GREAT covers and rarities, and "St. Anger" should be avoided like the plague. Horrible production value. It sounds like an aborted album that was still released for the sake of fulfilling a contract.

Her parents are hip, and it's about the only video game exposure I'm sure they've ever had, lol. She and I do a lot of housesitting, as well, and I like keeping my options open. Alison's no novice, but she's not too keen on new age gaming as it is. Gotta keep it simple, and know your roots.  ;D

Mmm..nope. I have a 42" Sony Grand Wega LCD HDTV with the works. I got the RF switch for when I go to my girlfriends parents place. They're the one's with the old TV's. Besides, if I ever sell it, I'd like to have it complete. I've got a light gun around somewhere, too. I tried it out on my friends 42" HP plasma, and it looks "ok". Of course, his set wasn't calibrated professionally like mine, but I still expect a lot of pixelation.

The worst part is, from what I've gathered, you can't play Duck Hunt on an HDTV.

I actually came across (and purchased) an very clean, original NES. Of course, no RF adapter, had to order that, but still. $50 got me the system w/ power cord, 2 controllers, and AV cables and a 1 year warantee. I ended up finding SM2, Donkey Kong Classics, and SMB/DH at Pawn America for $5 a pop. I'm actively seeking out T&C Surf Designs and TMNT.

Grabbed that SW tin at Best Buy this morning. Luckily, it was the last one they had. If they were actually LE's, with serial numbers, it would have been sheer madness. I probably shouldn't have waited so long as it is.

Rebelscum DVD rumor:

Target Star Wars Boxed Set Coming Next Week?

We've gotten words from our spies of a new item coming from Target later this month. Collecting the newly-released DVDs into a single set, this is said to be for sale at $32.99 regularly priced at $39.99. Look for a scan of the ad soon, but chalk this up as a rumor for now.

That just seems WAAAAAAAAY too cheap, not to mention the inconsistant street date. That said, I just got $40 in RZ coupons for buying my HDTV, so I guess I may get that tin afterall.

The movies are $15 individually at CC, and they have LE lithographs. I'm not able to afford them right now. Best Buy is getting $20 for a tin, just because they know they can.

I dig 1 through 3. Once a horror franchise that originated on Earth makes it's way to space, it's ******' curtains, man. i.e. Leprechaun, Jason X, Hellraiser.

Anywho, picked up that Ace Ventura set today. Seems as if a lot of people balked at it due to the omission of the dolphin training sequence where Ace toys around with a Russian accent, claiming they'll just watch their VHS copies. So, yeah. Piss and moan about not having a WS transfer of AV for 5 years, finally get it with 5.1 DD no less, then decide to watch it on VHS because it has that 15 second clip that obviously makes the movie. People's reasoning is flawed as all hell, if you ask me.

Also nabbed Robin Hood-Men In Tights, along with the 2 disc Gojira/Godzilla. The Japanese version is finally available on DVD, and it's an HD master from the original Toho print. Found Dr. Giggles for $3 today, along with the big Creative Designs Blade Runner set for $15, but with the Star Wars re-releases next week, guess those last two will be going bye bye pretty soon.

That, indeed, is a ringing endorsement.

I think I'll get "Hellraiser 3", but the AVS forums coordinated purchase day is just 4 days away, and I was going to order up about 4 HD-DVDs. Thankfully, Amazon has a deal where when you buy 3 or more, you get 10% at the time, and for APPROXIMATELY one year from that day on all HD-DVD purchases. I'm pretty much tapped after buying my new HDTV, though.
