I'm really hoping it's just the package tinting and not a "dirty" variant.

It can't be that hard. If Stargate, Star Trek, B5, and dozens of other sci-fi shows can pull it off, George can pull it off. He just needs to dial back the effects about 75% and get used to a lot of rubber-forehead aliens instead of a brand-new CGI menagerie every episode. It's just the nature of the beast.

Or follow the Spartacus approach and film on a handful of interior sets with location shots filled in with CGI. That's pretty much what he did for the prequels anyway.

The Vintage Collection / Re: The Street Date Debate
« on: July 30, 2010, 02:57 AM »
I'm siding with what Jesse wrote back on page 3 ... a street date is a street date, and misguided in this case or not, it's really no different from putting out CDs, DVDs, etc before they're supposed to be sold. That **** would never fly in the electronics department, although I realize toys are much further down the priority list for store managers. But just because some stores have broken the street date (probably unintentionally on the part of lower-level employees) is no reason for Hasbro to just say "Screw it" and let them keep it all out on the pegs.

I think it's great that there's a sort of evolution. I can't picture (in a Star Wars galaxy sort of sense) the clone helmets just going straight from Phase I to Phase II.

Well yeah, but II is already an intermediary stage between I and the OT. How many additional "missing links" do we need?

What's Neyo's helmet supposed to be then, if PHase 1 is AOTC style, and Phase 2 is ROTS style?  ???

Neyo's is way out there...  Then there's the Marine's uniforms.  The "Scout" armor from Kashyyyk...

I think the armor's a constantly evolving thing in the war, ultimately.  New stuff developed for new reasons.  Some legions in the outer rim could be fighting up till the end in the Phase 1 simply because they don't get resupplied as fast or often.  You never know, ya know?

I'm all for specialization/customization, but it's getting to a point where a lot of new guys like the flamethrower trooper look nothing like a clone trooper at all, in color or design.

There's meant to be a core iconic look for the Republic Army, and you can't tell me that the average Joe on the street (in-universe or out of, for that matter) would know that that's supposed to be a clone trooper without being told.

So it's the Phase II armor with the extended helmet fin from Phase I? So what the heck is this--Phase I.5?

...and yes, I realze I've become that humorless guy too mired in continuity to appreciate anything new anymore. :-\

The Eye of the Hawk Select Ale was first released in 1984 - a direct response to customer demand for a wider variety of our traditionally brewed ales. Eye of the Hawk Select Ale is produced year round. Generous amounts of Pale and Caramel malt and our special proprietary yeast strain produce an extremely well balanced ale with an alcohol 8% ABV (alcohol by volume). Eye of the Hawk Select Ale is coppery amber in color and characterized by a luxurious caramel malt flavor, a substantial mouth-feel and a slightly warming yet dry finish. Like all of the ales brewed by MBC, Eye of the Hawk Select Ale is bottle conditioned. Bottle Conditioning is a traditional Old World technique whereby actively fermenting yeast is introduced into the mature beer right before bottling, resulting in the development of natural carbonation and rich flavors in the bottle.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Have You "Made the Switch" to BluRay?
« on: July 13, 2010, 09:33 PM »
My roommate got a PS3 so I'm slowly picking up Blu-rays for it. So far I've just grabbed a few that are cheap (my rule of thumb is $10 or less), or super cool like the Watchmen Complete Cut boxset. But it'll be a while before I'm at the point of rebuying stuff I have on DVD.

I agree that digital copies and Video On Demand are the wave of the future, but I think people will always want hard copies of favorite movies for their collection. E.g., I listen to Pandora and have a lot of random crap in my iTunes music library, but I still buy physical CDs for certain favorite bands or when I find a bargain.

People watching TV in online-only format (e.g. cord-cutters) holding steady at about 4% of US population: http://bit.ly/daLZoj

I've been essentially cordless for three and a half months, when I moved out of my parents' place. Being technologically-savvy young lads, my roommate and I didn't see the need to pay for cable when both of us watch everything we want online (Hulu, Netflix streaming, etc.)

The only thing I miss is the news/current events, but I try to catch that when I drop by my parents'.

Just finished Kull and The Fountainhead.

Now on this; it's the complete Lovecraft fiction* in chronological (publication) order.

*Or like 98% percent of it, minus some of the collaborations etc, but "complete" enough for my purposes. After starting with the major stories in the other collection, I wanted to read the rest of the oeuvre in order without having to jump between a bunch of separate anthologies.
