Watto's Junk Yard / I'm getting a tattoo, need help
« on: July 19, 2003, 09:09 AM »
Hopefully somebody could help me out, but I had this idea for a tattoo to get across my back that was somewhat cryptic and at the same time meaningful to anyone who could read it.

I'm thinking about getting the first line of musical score of a Led Zeppelin song tattoo'd across my back... As it is I can't read music, but my dad's a friend of the Musical director here at the UofA and I'm thinking he could check over the line and make sure it sounded/looked right.

Do yall think that's original and awesome? All my friends that I've asked think its just awesome and a great idea, but, I wanna know everyone's opinion.

BTW- I haven't decided on which song.

Toy Reviews / Hoth Han (Blue) Review
« on: July 4, 2003, 03:29 AM »
Yea, so, I've got the blue version, but I'll get the brown, too.

Appearance -
The legs are a bit wide, but I guess I can live with it. The face don't look much like Ford, but it's close. Coat has gloss paint, and no "snow" deco, which is a real bummer. Not bad, though.
8/10

Articluation -
9 points including wrist and elbows, very good. I'm happy. Unfortunately the lame ass crap-tAction feature cuts the waist articluation out.
8/10

Pose-ability -
No knees, but thanks to the elbow/wrist articulation, you can post him a bit. Pretty good.
8/10

Accessory -
A mask, pistol, lightsaber, and radio - good stuff.
10/10

Overall -
Even though the legs suck, this figure's pretty cool.

Toy Reviews / Matrix Reloaded - Twin #1
« on: July 1, 2003, 10:11 AM »
As mentioned in the Morpheus review, my apoligies to anyone who doesn't like my non-SW review going here - I just had no idea where-else to put it, and believe me, I had to review these guys.

Appearance -
Dead-on to the movies. The first flaw that comes to mind is the line in his dreads where they were glued on. I don't like that. Besides that, everything looks like it should. I'll also give points off for semi-decent paint-job on his rings. For $10 a peice I should get flawless stuff.

8/10

Articluation -
These are display peices. 7-ish points to add a little customizing ability to the scenes, which is all you really need. Decent enough for me.
9/10

Pose-ability -
One, a second left hand is not offered... You get the one you got, which isn't able to hold a pistol... God forbid I want him holding a pistol. Two, his right hand is sculpted to hold the razor, nothing more, god forbid I want him holding a pistol there, too.
7/10

Accessory -
A razor... The garage base and a pillar. First off, this is Matrix, damnit, I want lots of guns, why can't I get lots of guns? Morpheus got alot of guns - why can't Twin #1? Not happy... Not happy.
4/10

Overall -
Probably not as good as Twin #2, which is short packed, as fate would have it. He's not given much to do but stand there and threaten you with his razor... I like swapping stuff up and having him holding a pistol or something - but it just aint possible. Still a nice display peice.

Toy Reviews / Matrix Reloaded - Morpheus
« on: July 1, 2003, 10:03 AM »
Hopefully folks won't mind me posting a non-Star Wars review here... I dunno where else I could put it really - since it's not technically a Movie Maniacs 6 line it don't belong in that thread... Oh well... I really couldn't help myself once I saw these two in my TRU... I just had to buy the damned things. Expensive, but, I'm addicted to toys.

Appearance -
Dead-on to the movie, there's something beautiful about Morpheus' face, even the dimples in the skin are captured here. The wardrobe is perfectly sculpted and these guys know where to put articulation and how to hide it... Amazing work, they put even the best Hasbro work to shame.
10/10

Articluation -
Advertised as Adult Collectibles, these pieces are designed for display - however articulation is still provided so that you can sort-of customize your scenes to your likings. Somewhere in the range of 7 points, I'd say. I'm a mean-bastard in this area for every figure I grade - but this is a display piece, see next area for the mean bastard.
8/10

Pose-ability -
I knew I could find something to complain about, haha! One, his neck is crafted so that he cannot look to his left side, that is, he cannot look back towards whatever twin is to be behind him. Two, umm, alright, so that's the only complaint I can think of right now. Points off simply because I promised the mean bastard.
7/10

Accessory -
Oh yea. Two pistols with extended clips, two HK's (not sure what they are), and a Katana with removable sheath. That ain't all, you also get the garage floor and a pillar... Hasbro sucks, hehe.
10/10

Overall -
I hate not being able to give bad reviews, specially when pose-ability is so low. Man, I'm getting soft at this. Anywho, this is the guy to pick up, even if you're like me and you thought Reloaded was pretty sorry.

Toy Reviews / Ephant Mon Review
« on: June 18, 2003, 06:07 PM »
After waiting for, well, forever, I finally gave up on retail and my good buddy Wayne sold me a spare Ephant Mon of his. Big thanks to him, of course!

Appearance -
Dead-on to the movie, as far as I can tell. The only complaint I could muster, if I had to name one thing, is that the dagger isn't weathered any. Not a big deal at all, so no complaints. A half-point off because I hate giving perfect scores - just kidding.
10/10

Articluation -
Not much was really needed, considering Ephant is a tad sluggish and all. I believe there are 9 points, including the tail, jaw, and wrists. I'm more than happy with the articulation here, whoever sculpted this guy knew what needed to be done - and did it. Point off because I've head that some Ephants topple easily (mine is sturdy as can be), but that point is added right back on because my Ephant has chewing action, hehe!
10/10

Pose-ability -
I have no idea how best to grade this portion. Ephant Mon was never seen doing anything except waddling forward. One wouldn't expect Ephant to sit down in a ship's cockpit or anything like that, so I can't really take off points. I'll do it anyway, though - all Ephant Mon can do is stand, which is all he ever did.
8/10

Accessory -
A dagger that fits to his belt/thigh, and a cane. Plenty enough for me.
10/10

Overall -
I hate not being able to give this guy a worse review. I just hate giving good reviews! This figure is pretty cool for the charactor it portrays. If you don't have an Ephant, don't feel bad, nobody seems to have him - so do like I did and moan and groan about not having an Ephant until someone finally caves to make you shut up.  ;) Final score is -

Watto's Junk Yard / Porkins = Eckhardt!
« on: June 18, 2003, 04:05 AM »
Me and Chris were talking about Eckhardt being such a funny crook and then I realized, Eckhardt looks like Porkins BECAUSE HE IS PORKINS! Wow! Okay, had to share that with everyone.  ;)

Watto's Junk Yard / PS2 - Return To Castle Wolfenstein
« on: June 14, 2003, 12:32 AM »
Now, I was a Wolfenstein fan ever since I played it on my old Mac many years ago... So, when my pal picked the sequel up for PS2, of course I had high expectations. So far, the game really kicks ass - there's still a Wolfenstein feeling in the air, but now there's alot cooler graphics. The big question on my mind was - can the game be recaptured, better yet, can it be put on the PS2 succesfully. I think 'yes', the game is pretty entertaining for the most part - while nowhere near as great as Hitman 2 - RtCW really makes itself worth a purchase (though I refuse to pay over $30 for any games).
The bigger flaws is the irritating lack of accuracy in the weapons... I'm taking head-shots at people and the bullet jumps several inches above the intended target. Another thing - in the Original Wolf there was a lil cheat map where you could see who was in the rooms around you - this is no longer avaliable, which sucks when you wanna play around a lil.

Best moment -
There's a lil alley, outside of this desert town, I step out of the shadows and quickly jump back to cover, trying to draw out enemy fire. Nothing happens, so I step out again and walk forward. BAM, I'm hit by a single shot, then by another, and I realize this is no infantryman, I'm getting blazed by a sniper. So - I ease around the corner, toss a grenade randomly, then figure out where he is - on the second story of a little house across the alley. So I run across the street and lean against the building with the sniper in it, I get another grenade, I crawl into the inside of the building and throw the grenade to the second story... I run out, then all a sudden the sniper jumps from the second story as the grenade blows, and he takes a good pop at me... I gun him down with my tommy, but he manages to knock me down to about 8 health... Dunno if the AI is that smart or if it was just luck, but it was awesome finally having some competition.  :-*

Watto's Junk Yard / What Sci-Fi Channel Show an I thinking of?
« on: June 12, 2003, 01:54 AM »
I really need help figuring out what show I'm thinking of -

A few years back, before my cable got fixed, I turned on the static-filled Sci-Fi channel and I caught the ending of a show where there seemed to be a war going on between man and an alien species.

There was a squad of troopers and they seemed to be pinned down in this facility, from what I remember this enemy of theirs would periodically drop these Migrane bombs or something and give the troopers a realllyy hard time.

I don't know what this could be - a TV version of Starship Troopers, an airing of the movie Starship Troopers (I've never seen the movie), Battlestar Galactica, or something else.

Any help is really appreciated!

Other Collectibles / Star Wars Bed Sheets?
« on: June 6, 2003, 04:34 PM »
Anyone know if there's any Star Wars bed sheets and such out on the market right now? I've always wanted a whole set for my bed... Yes, I'm a dork, but why not sleep like one, too?  :D

Saga '02-'04 / Will you get the KBToys Imperial Shuttle?
« on: June 5, 2003, 04:14 PM »
I kept my word and said I'd never buy that Shuttle from FAO, but I never said I wouldn't buy it from KB's...   ;)... The price is still ridiculously high, but who else is actually considering buying this thing if/when they see it in KB's?

I suppose there's a chance, small chance, that the price tag may be dropped down... If I saw this thing for $50, I'd definately get it. I'm still unsure if I would shell out the current asking price, though.

The Prequel Trilogy / Deathsticks guy - Like 'em or Hate 'em?
« on: June 4, 2003, 03:29 AM »
I noticed awhile back that a few people were really upset about the rumor of the Deathsticks guy (Elan Sleazebaggo) becomming a figure... I was pretty surprised that there were actually people out there who disliked the druggy...  So, how's abouit a little poll here =

Deathsticks guy = Like him or Hate him?

Me - I think he's pretty cool, even though "deathsticks" sounds a bit lame, drugs in real-life get a lame nicknames all the time (seeing as marijuana has gotten the nickname "anthrax" as of late  ::) ). I say, make him a figure, he's cool in my book.

Watto's Junk Yard / Favorite Band = Led Zeppelin
« on: May 30, 2003, 11:40 AM »
So, who else considers Led Zeppelin to be their favorite band? Or at the least, somewhere ranking in your top 5 favorites?

Favorite album/songs?

My favorite album is probably IV, and if I had to list my top 5 favorite songs, they are...
Kashmir, Going To California, Bring It On Home, When The Levy Breaks, and Tangerine.

Side note : Led Zeppelin II has the coolest Vinyl cover ever. And yes, even though I'm considered a youngster, not only do I own a few Zeppelin albums, but I even got a album player if I ever wanted to crank it up old school style.  :-*
