FINALLY got high speed at the house and am formally challenging all of you to a duel at Modern Warfare (and eventually MW2), Rock Band: Beatles, or whatever else.

PSN name is, of course, angryewok.

Ordered Beatles: Rock Band and Batman: Arkham Asylum the other day from Best Buy. Best Buy is having a buy one, get one half off sale, so I'm getting both for roughly $45. Not a huge savings, but better than the retail here in town.

My initial reaction is that this is terrible news for Marvel fans. The Disney Corporation is such a putoff for me, but I don't know why or when I started feeling this way... but all a sudden I want to spend more time and money with Dark Horse and DC comics.

Tried out a handful of demos, this weekend. Batman is awesome, even for a hack and slash it was pretty damn fun. Could perhaps be a tad linear beating up a hundred generic goons before every tiered face oponent. Il-2 was okay - but sort of boring - I'd rather have more arcade style maneuverability. COD:World At War was very bland - no interest in that at all at this point. The Ghostbusters game was decent enough for nostalgia - perhaps a good $15 game some day.

Yeah, not much action. Would have been nice to see how the Basterds operated as a cohesive guerilla unit.

District 9 had its moments, but for the most part I left feeling like the film had so much unfulfilled potential.

Inglorious Basterds is, so far, the best movie of the year for me. Best movie I've seen in a while.

Absolutely worth it. It towers over all other SSC - literally and quality wise, as well.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: JD Book Club: What Are You Reading Now?
« on: August 10, 2009, 04:22 PM »
Last night I finished Volume 2 of Shelby Foote's Civil War: A Narrative. This morning I started with Volume 3. I've been talking about taking a break from the war long enough to read something a little more lighter - but after taking down 2,000 pages, I'm eager to put away the last 1,000. I just know I'll have a huge sense of accomplishment once I've finally done it. This is a great, great series... It's really required reading for anyone interested in American History.

Waiting on my shelf...

Thomas Paine's Common Sense
Washington's Secret War: The Hidden History of Valley Forge
Boone: A Biography
All the Pretty Horses
The Crossing
Cities Of The Plain
LOTR The Hobbit
LOTR Fellowship of the Ring
LOTR The Two Towers
LOTR Return of the King
Rainbow Six
A Bridge Too Far
