Revenge of the Sith / Re: RotS - Deluxe Figures
« on: March 31, 2005, 01:27 PM »
Then since Wave 2 (six figures per case) breaks down as:

Darth Vader on Operating Table x2
Jetpack CloneTrooper x2
Yoda on Can-cell x1
Vulture Droid x1

My bet for how Wave 3 will break down is:
Clonetrooper 3Pack x2
Crabdroid x2
Stass Allie on Bike x1
Spiderdroid x1

I'm guessing here that there will only be minor re-tooling on the Spiderdroid (supposedly the gun is different) and the bike with Stass Allie will be the regular old speeder bike we've gotten a bunch of times over (if it was a Barc Speeder, ole Stassie would be in the Small Vehicle assortments).

While I'm excited to get the clone 3 pack, I'm not - these things can NEVER be found at retail.

I never found the CW versions - only the HORRIBLE turd that was the destroyer droid shooter thingy.

Yeah - I can hear that - I frequented a total of 1 TRU, 3 Targets and 4 WalMarts every morning for over a month with the goal of acquiring all of the color-op variants of that Clonetrooper 3-pack. It got annoying, it got my boss a tad bit annoyed since I was coming in EVERY DAY after 9:40....

Here's hoping that it ends up where there are cases of NOTHING BUT this three pack.

Here's an odd thing though - I thought the Operating Table Darth figure was to come out with the Jetpack Trooper, Yoda w/Can-cell and Vulture Droid - I thought those four figures were "Wave 2" - do the three pack Clones fit into a "Wave 3"?

This IS truly frustrating.

Granted, I hadn't planned on NOT going to TRU MM anyway so it makes no difference to me really. Even though there will be Walmarts open at midnight, my step-son and I are still going to TRU 'cause we've gone to TRU both for EP1 and EP2 so we want to do it for the third and final time for EP3 - we're branching out this year with our plans to immediately get in line at Target as soon as we're done at TRU and then jet over to WalMart, after we've grabbed more figures (for $1 off) and picked up the Lava Vaders, to grab a couple of those Early Bird Kits...

Now more than ever, I'm glad I'm sticking to our original plans and checking out TRU to see if we can score a couple (if not more) Holo Yodas....

Also, Luke, Leia, R2 and, at some places, 3PO are still readily available. I was sort of hoping that they will be "classic reproductions of the 1977 figures". I already have them all but it would be cool to get them all in mint condition. However, Hasbro's site said that the line would include all 6 movies so I know they won't do vintage styled PT figures.

My problem with vintage figure reproductions is that it will surely put the rest of the nails in the coffin of this line.

No kid out there wants a figure that looks like it was sculpted, made and painted using 1970's technology. They just don't.

I loved my vintage Star Wars figures when I was a kid, but I'll take my 1995-2005 figures ANYDAY over the vintage ones if I had a choice - they just LOOK BETTER. Quality beats out nostalgia anyday in my book.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: RotS Wookiee Helicopter with Wookiee

Here's a pick from the new Hasbro product catalogue - Wookie looks REALLY pre-posed to fit in the vehicle, but IMHO, I'd rather have that then no figure that fits in it at all...

Here are some pics from the new Hasbro toy catalogue that's online...

Vader on the operating table...

Clonetrooper 3-pack...

unfortunately it looks like the clonetrooper packs are going to be just like the Clone Wars ones, except with ROTS clones...  :( -- I would have preferred SA clones of varying paint-ops

Hasbro has updated today with an Episode III Toy Catalogue with pictures.

This also requires Adobe Acrobat to view the file.

Great photos in there that we've not seen before!

Clone Wars '03-'05 / Re: Possible Animated Wave 4?
« on: March 31, 2005, 09:34 AM »
Is anyone expecting these this weekend (the new ones I mean)?  Or is that just a pipe dream?  I suppose no leaks from the Far East makes it rather unlikely.

Yeah - nothing this weekend is definite. Perhaps you might see stores that still have stock of the Wave 3 figures putting them out, but that's about it.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: More OT or E3 figs before years end?
« on: March 31, 2005, 09:21 AM »
I too would prefer that the line remain purely ROTS this year. There can be the odd item here and there like the 500th Vader figure or the 5-pack sets. But I doubt we're going to see any serious effort made at OT figures until the "relaunch" in 2006.

So Hasbro officially announced the Early Bird set, but they still don't tell us what the figures are going to look like.  My guess is they haven't even got a clue yet.  They threw this together and are going to rely on sales of ROTS figures to determine whether or not the line will keep going.

Unfortunately, this is probably the REAL story right now unfortunately.

I would not be surprised to hear that Hasbro has found great success from retailers with speculative purchasing of the Sigma Six line for GI Joe and as such they are applying the same mentality to the Star Wars toy line.

For me, a scale change would signal my exit - while I absolutely LOVE Star Wars, the exact same thing that happened with the Star Trek line will happen to Star Wars - the "new" line will FAIL - just like Art Asylum's far superior (but out of scale with the Playmates line) Star Trek figures did/has.

I think if ROTS sells well and retailers are pleased they will continue to be willing to support Hasbro making a 3-3/4" line. If the retailers are NOT pleased with the performance of ROTS then Hasbro will NEED to change almost EVERYTHING about the toy line in order to try to get the toy buyers to "bite".

I will still buy as many as three Early Bird kits come Saturday morning and send away for two of these sets (keeping the third EB package mint) -- if the figures I get back are 3-3/4", I'll be happy, I'll be happy even if they are simply VOTC in a white mailer box, at least to me it indicates the direction the line is heading.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: RotS Plo Koon's Jedi Starfighter

The supplement doesn't necessarily explain why Plo Koon's still flying around in one of the older models though - or why it has a design similar to Anakin's.

Perhaps the rest of the book will....

I still can't believe people are that bothered about the DS being shown under construction.  People act like that is not realistic.  Well, this is a Star Wars movie people.  You would think that is the coolest if you were a little kid.  Admit it.

Who knows?  Maybe the labor unions went on strike or the techno union was really hurt by Wat Tambor's early demise at the hands of Anakin - er - Vader.

Don't get me wrong - I'm totally stoked that we get to see the DS under construction in this movie. For me I'm just wondering about the second one and when construction of it starts. Also - realize that it was ONLY plans at the time of AOTC - so in three years it's gone from nothing to this. Not bad progress IMHO.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: 2005 RotS Figures Release List

So has anyone heard any more about whether or not we're going to see figures up to #32 or up to #40?

We know people have found some of the figures that come in the "Wave 3" assortments but from what I've been told, the stock rooms in the back are mostly Waves 1 & 2 of both collections.

Well - to sorta answer my own question - according to the "wise" scribes over at RS - there is an outside chance we'll see figures up to #40. They have posted a checklist for use during the 2nd...

RS April 2nd Checklist

(you need Adobe Acrobat to view the file)

Also - what do you all think the chances are that there will be the Cup w/Figure set at Target? We haven't see ANY pics of this thing yet only rumors. Seems odd to me - we've seen all of the other exclusives...

Revenge of the Sith / Re: 500th commemorative figure... Vader?
« on: March 30, 2005, 04:23 PM »
And let's face it - regardless of release date, Hasbro always has the ultimate wiggle room and can say "Well this is the Xth figure that we conceived" and put any figure they want and any milestone they want. It would be nice to see an all-comprehensive encyclopedia on the Modern line get made so you could (a) fully appreciate the depth to this line and (b) make sure you have everything you want according to your own collecting standards...

I just don't think we are going to get obscure figures like Porkins, Lt Faytonni, Ach Med Beg, etc.  However, I can see them still making Admiral Piett, Bossk, AT-AT Driver or even a Dignitary.  I am almost sure we'll get Luke in almost every outfilt.  Same with Han and Leia.

re: Obscure chracters... that's true, but I'd settle for really great versions of Tarkin, Wedge, 4-LOM and Zuckuss and I'll be happy...

Besides who the heck needed Lt. Faytonni and Ach Med Beq anyway? I got 'em but only 'cause I'm a completist. But if you look at the article the Insider did on the Outlander club from AOTC, there are WAY more interesting looking characters that could have been done from that sequence instead!
