it took about 30 minutes to make the thing.  But, its done now and I can use to almost forever.  I never have been a fan of the boiled water thing.  I would think it would leave your clay all wet.

 ;D
I sorta started posting here about 6 months ago then got sidetracked when I had my daughter, so I'm just letting you all know that I've come back/restarted here on the best customizing forum on the net!

Just so you know where I am on customizing, I used to do 3 3/4" about 2000, then last year I did a couple of 6" customs (Naga Sadow was pictured).  I'm now back in the game doing 3 3/4" again.  I use strictly 'The Corps!' figures as bases since they are cheap, abundant, and I love to sand them down and re-sculpt them.
My master plan is to work my way chronologically in the EU from the beginning to the end making about 3-6 customs for each story.  I'm currently working on a 3 3/4" Naga Sadow.  My next project is one of his massassi enforcers.

Nice to be here again though!!!

uuugh, I had a bad experience with this stuff!  I didnt know that the lid was off and I spilt it on my finger.  I went to wipe my nose and got my nostrils stuck together, PLUS my eyes started burning from the fumes.  I through it all out after that!  :)

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Homemade Oven
« on: April 4, 2006, 12:59 PM »
I created a unique and utterly cheap invention this past week and thought I'd share!
When I lived in my old house, I cooked all my sculpy in the oven.  My wife didnt care for it too much, so when we moved, she asked that I not do it anymore.  Well, this put a real monkeywrench in my customizing.  I tried using a hair dryer, but it took forever, even though it did accomplish it over time.

So, I got a bright idea one day.

I took a cardboard box about 4" all around (square) and left the top open.  I taped down thick aluminum foil to all sides.  Then, I cut a hole out a little bigger than the end of my hair dryer.  I taped shut the top all except for one side which I could open and close to put my object inside.  Along the bottom, I put a few holes for vents.

Stick your hairdryer in the hole and put the sculpy object inside and hit high heat for about 5 minutes.  Its done!  Really its your own easy-bake oven!

It works perfect for me now!  I'll try and post pics but its really simplistic.

is it liquidy and runs or is it more like gel (like tooth paste and stays where you put it)?

I'm wanting a more gel like stuff.  Something that comes in greater quanity than those little bitty bottles.

Has anyone ever tried using Gorilla Glue instead of super glue?  If so, is it just like super glue in its effectiveness?
Do you also know what its consistancy is like?  Like a gel that doesnt run, or more liquidy like those cheap super glues (5 for a dollar!)?

Thanks!

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Joints Scraping Paint!
« on: April 3, 2006, 11:30 PM »
I know a lot of you probably have this problem, but maybe someone can help me out here.  When you paint a figure that has articulation, even basic leg rotation, the paint gets scraped off.  I really would like to know how to solve this problem, especially on elbow and ball shoulder joints.  I wondered if maybe sealant on those areas would do it.

I'm gonna go ahead and open this up to as many figures as you want.  So, you can now do less than 10 if you want.  If you've already submitted a list and dont want some of them because you thought you just HAD to have 10 (which you did at the time :) ), let me know.  I can change it for you.

Clone Hunter, you are now on the list as well with han blue coat, 2 junker fx-7 droids.

Notice though, I'm still wanting $4 for shipping no matter how many you get, so it may be to your advantage to get more.
