Well of the Souls / Hasbro 12 Indiana Jones Line
« on: July 28, 2007, 09:59 PM »
Just saw that on the front page.  As soon as I saw that the 12" will have "whipping action" you know what I thought of?  The new 12" Marvel figures.  All sculpted instead of using soft goods with the GI Joe-style body.  I have a feeling they're going to be very much toys for kids.

Even if Sideshow wasn't doing 12" figures all I really wanted from Hasbro was a decent hat and jacket because the rest I can easily kitbash.  I've even got a decent head sculpt that's probably better than what Hasbro would do, but not better than Sideshow's if the proto is any indication.

I'll hold judgement on this but I'm thinking it'll really be a kids toy line that collectors won't be interested in much.

If you want to really laugh you should read (tenike1's) myspace blog. It's truly fascinating.

Oh, my. . .

That guy is such an arrogant prick.  "I was the life of your forum."  Please, if he was anything like he is on the RS forums he's nothing more than a malcontent and no forum I've ever been a part of would miss the guy.

OH!  Even better, the kid is only 19?  That explains so much.

They had clear photos from the CIV presentation as well.  I'm guessing they just handed Curto a copy of PowerPoint file.  I wonder if they'd do it for other sites if you just asked?

Oh, no.  No, no, no!!  They had to go and make this line excellent so I'll spend money on it, didn't they?!

;D  I'm in for that whole set right there, of the action figure line anyway.  I'll pass on the Adventure Heroes though.

I'm still on the edge of my seat waiting for a look at Sideshow's 1:6 scale Indy.

The Legacy Collection / Re: New Evolution Sets
« on: July 28, 2007, 02:36 PM »
I'm all in favor of all the figures that are making these sets but I wish they'd leave the Evolutions name alone and do these as single-pack or comic 2-pack figure sets.

They don't make sense as an evolution IMO, not like a set of Obi-Wan or the Anakin and Trooper sets from 2005 did.  I'd rather have the option of picking and choosing.  I like the Nihilus figure but don't care for Maul or Bane.  The rest are all pretty decent with the Jango and Fett looking really nice.

I just think it looks like Hasbro caved to the collector's desire for Evo sets even though I don't think they make sense.

I'll be happy with the jacket Indy as long as he's SA.  The whip action figure would be a pass.  Marion, Belloq and the rest shown are all a big thumbs up!

I won't collect the full line but most of those shown, from ROTLA, are pretty good.  I can't wait to see what Sideshow does, though!

I think I'm going to have to watch the Indy trilogy this weekend.

Joe Defender / G.I. Joe Toys Thread
« on: July 27, 2007, 02:49 PM »
I forget what I've paid in the past for shiping from Small Joes, but I highly recommend them.  I order from them every once in a while and they've had some insane deals on back issues of GI Joe comics and some of the Corps figures and whatnot.  They run a pretty good outfit.

I waited to see the full set before putting in my pre-order and will be doing that soon.  I really like the set.  I'm not a Clone or Mandalorian nut but I really dig this set.  I can see people's arguments on the black troopers but if I understand it correctly, Omega Squad is from a book/comic and that's how they are depicted?  Unlike the Utapau Shadow Clone or the Shadow Scout which were just made up, these actually have an EU story.

I've seen some grumbling about the head sculpts on the Mando figures and agree to a certain point.  I don't care where they came up with the sculpts (Hasbro employees or whatever) or the names, but they should have at least made them tough looking.  Toss in a scar here and there, a little brooding look and the right paint app and it would really take them up a notch.

As far as the RC figures go, I'd love to see a new Republic Commando sculpt some day.  It's not that bad, but I hate the legs.  I finally got the Delta Squad pack and it's a cool set and I'll be looking forward to these as well.

That's a cute chick on the lower left...

It's nice when someone can find a positive in any situation.  And I concur!

From that photo I'm actually surprised how many people are there on preview night.  How exactly do you get in for that, buy a ticket for the full weekend?  I always though preview night was mostly for press, VIPs, crew, exhibitors and the like more so than for the general public.  But, I've never been so I've never asked about that before.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Considering Unmoderated Forum
« on: July 26, 2007, 05:45 PM »
I think there is enough adult people here to make it fly and there is enough righties and lefties to keep it balanced.

Actually, there are a lot more righties than lefties in the world.  If we have an unmoderated forum all the righties will be running around with their scissors taunting the lefties, "I can cut paper and you can't!"  Then the lefties will be all like, "yeah, but we're more artistically inclined!"  And the righties will have to be like, "Nuh-uh!"

And it just gets worse from there.   :-*

Well of the Souls / 12 inch sideshow indy
« on: July 25, 2007, 01:35 PM »
I'd be surprised if the Ark came with the 1:6 Indiana figure.  My guess is it would be a set piece sold on it's own with two carry polls and some snakes, maybe a torch or two, removable top and "dust" inside.  Maybe a crate?  Throw in an extra snake for the exclusive.

My guess is the Indy figure would probably end up with either the idol or the head piece (maybe with pole) as the exclusive.  How awesome would the idol be if it was cast in pewter like the Dejarik chess pieces are?  I'm so excited over the prospect of a 1:6 Indy that I can't even tell you.

Well of the Souls / 12 inch sideshow indy
« on: July 25, 2007, 10:43 AM »
Yeah, that entry price is kind of high but I'm willing to dish it out for a really awesome 1:6 Indy from ROTLA.  He needs to come with his bullwhip, of course, bag, pistol, idol, and the head piece for the Staff of Ra.  And they also need to make the Ark at some point but I bet that ends up as an accessory like the Dejarik table.

Really, I don't care to buy anything esle from an Indy line but it will be interesting to see what Sideshow comes up with.  I'm sure they'll do Henry Jones and the ladies at some point.  A nice Elsa would work and I'd love to see what they could do with John Rhys-Davies as Sallah.

Other Collectibles / Re: CIV Medallions
« on: July 25, 2007, 08:56 AM »
I paraphrased it from this post.

The auction said that Hollywood Heroes brokered the sale for a presenter.  So, from that, I take it to mean a presenter that received this set wanted to sell but rather than post his/her own eBay auction they went to HH to sell it for them to give them some anonymity.  Plus it's a high priced item so they may have wanted someone else to handle the receipt of payment and take care of shipping.

That's why it kind of surprised me that one of these sets came up for sale like that.

As I said, I can see the lure of the payout.  $3k would have covered all my expenses for going to CIV plus put over $1k back in my pocket.  Still, that's not the type of thing I would think to sell, it's so unique.

Hmmm.  I wonder who would sell a set like that?  I can see the lure of the cash but that's an AWESOME piece for doing nothing but volunteering some time.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Transformers
« on: July 21, 2007, 01:31 PM »
The Transformers line offered new stuff with a hot movie.  No matter how hot the Spider-Man movie may or may not have been, there was really nothing new offered in the toy aisle.

There are literally hundreds of Spider-Man figures avaialble in all shapes and sizes and even Venom has his fair share of toys.  They may not all be easy to get, but Spider-Man's Rogue Gallery has pretty decent representation out there.  I'm not surprised that line didn't sell well.  Plus, isn't it a slightly different scale from the previous Toy Biz versions?  Or did Hasbro only do that for the Fantastic Four figures?  I recall reading that they had adjusted the F4 figures due to the vehicle they wanted to put out.  But I could be wrong on that.

Plus we've had 3 SM movies so I don't think it was as hot as the first TF was with it being that franchises first live action movie and first big screen movie in, what, 20 years?  ****, I haven't picked up a Spider-Man movie figure of any type yet and I'd only bought 2 Transformer toys in 20 years till this year.  I've already bought 3 TF movie toys in as many weeks with plans for at least one more.
