Grrrrr rawr robble rabble robble. #"Fan's"Choice

:)

But yeah given the general attitude of some readers why promote that that hard only to turn around and deride it in another timeline post?  That's kind of manic.

We wouldn't be talking about JTA would we? The TMZ of SW collectibles reporting. "Here's a thread to vote! Here's the thread to bitch!"

I'm mostly OK with the 5POA and I was mostly OK with the Walmart BS line until Hasbro's crappy choice in character attire for this last wave. I don't know if it was a Hasbro thing or a Lucasfilm/Disney thing or a JJ edited the movie thing, but while the TFA figures looked nice, the character and vehicle choices were terrible. Breaking the basic line into the Snow/Desert and Jungle/Space assortments didn't help when it came to stores getting waves with desirable figs.

The 6" BS line has done better but there are some head-scratcher choices in there (Phase 1 Clone Troopers and Cody before ANH Obi or Phase 3 Rex for example). I'm happy for a poll but how many lists are gonna pop up with C-3PO or Sabine or Revan on them because people/sites don't pay attention.

Bo-Katan was a great choice and nearly convinced me to add her to my list, but I went with Amidala in her Red Throne Room Dress. I just saw it at the SW costume exhibit in Times Square last week and was reminded of how iconic and powerful it is. Padme had a million looks in the PT but if we only get one in the 6 inch line this would be my pick.

I agree. There are only a couple of Amidala outifts I'd really like to see with that being one of them. I also like the blue Tatooine dress from AOTC.

I don't get some of the hysteria I've read this morning elsewhere about this. I mean, who thought it was anything other than a poll? But then I don't get the hysteria about toys in general, so... anyways. I do think it would be great for Hasbro to have a SA 3 3/4" poll and cater to that crowd a little, but I'm not sure what people want there either really.

I think it's because people either assumed it was another SDCC action figure announcement or something to do with marketing going forward now that TFA is winding down and we'll be on Rogue One.  I thought I recalled Hasbro basically saying that their SDCC figure this year would be a Rogue One preview figure (like the Stormtrooper last year) and we were assuming it would be the new Death Trooper.

I'd love to see a Droideka in 6" scale (didn't make my cut in top 10 though) if Hasbro could tool the figure to collapse into roller mode.

Like the POTJ Mega Action figure? That's not actually a terrible figure, it does roll up and I think it's still in scale with the Black Series 6" line. If Hasbro still has the molds for that it seems like it could be easy money.

I looked at my list from last year and two of the figs I wanted are on their way: AT-AT Driver and Sabine. I'm happy with that.

I voted for Darth Talon last year but left her off my list this year and swapped out a couple others for Asajj, Aurra and Bo-Katan. I really want Hera from Rebels to go with Sabine so she got my number 2 vote behind Jaxxon (because I'm an *******  >:D). And I'm still voting for the other TESB Bounty Hunters.

Spotted the Gremlins figures Saturday at TRU and grabbed Gizmo. The store I was in used to have a decent end cap of figures but all they had were the Gremlins, Fight Club and some clearanced Aliens.

Anyone else see TRU get rid of their stock like that?

I understand voting for the character that you really want but if my number one choice is the AT-AT Driver, I'd at least spend five minutes to see if he's already on the way and if he is I'd vote for my number two.

It can be argued that C-3PO, Grievous and the others haven't been confirmed yet but Ahsoka is and she still got votes under the guise of people wanting another outfit or a Rebels version.

So what, we champion a character that a fraction of the community really knows anything about or vote for a bunch of stuff already coming, or on the short list, or a character variant before unique characters get done?

Hasbro is going to get bailed out of the worst distribution problem they've had in 20 years by the luck of a new movie coming out and they throw us a bone of a fans' choice poll and we're gonna end up with Revan? Again.

It's an interesting observation on estimated ages of the fans on the various sites but more than pointing to different generations having different attachments to the franchise, I think it also points out who approach this more as a collector hobby (paying attention to upcoming releases as well as how Hasbro operates historically) and who approach it as gimme, gimme consumer looking for quick satisfaction so they can move on and demand the next thing now.

What a waste of time and effort. I was reading comments on anotheR Site and they were basically "I don't care if ANH Luke (Insert other sure-thing OT character) is coming, I don't want to wait two years" and then the other half was all about Revan which is a boring, uninspired choice.

Ahsoka is already coming and the only other top 10 character on the list I'd remotely be interested in buying is Asajj Ventress. After that we're way down to the AT-AT Driver and then at the bottom, Sabine and Talon.

Of that list there are only 5 characters that I'd buy and only 2 in the top 10...and one of those is already on the way. And to be honest, I really feel like the only reason Revan won is because the 3.75" figure sells upwards of $100 on eBay sometimes.

That's interesting because the vest with my tan figure wouldn't hold the accessories but the extra worked fine. I haven't played with the grey vest yet, that was the other extra that I got.

My Marauder Gun Runners figures showed up Friday and I had a little time to play around with a couple today.  I ordered a set of 3 as my main pledge; black, grey and desert tan. I added on the red and green versions.  There was a bonus head with a painted balaclava, a MGR figure stand for each figure and a random pistol and rifle for each figure.

My order came with two extra tactical vests, tan and grey.  I'm assuming that was just a thank you type thing because I don't remember it being listed in any of the Kickstarter updates. The pistols were random and mostly the same but the rifles were all different. I received a Barrett .50,  FN P90, QBZ-95, FAMAS, and one of the old G.I. Joe style laser rifles.

Each figure has a head, a tac vest and a bunch of various pouches, holsters and knives to attach to the mount points both on the figures and vests.  The figures all have modern Hasbro Joe type articulation with the exception of the chest, these have waist articulation which works better with the web gear and vests.

The gear all seems to fit the mount points, I didn't have anything that had a post too large for any of the holes I tried them on. The tan vest that came with my figure did seem to have holes that were too large, everything kept falling off so I swapped in the extra and stuff fit better.  But everything is pretty loose, especially on the tac vests. It's even mentioned in a letter with the figures that if you're just displaying you'll be fine but if you're going to play with them, you may want to think about gluing stuff on. At least with a water based glue unless you're sure you want to make something permanent.  Getting everything on and arranged was a little finicky but looks good when it's done.

Of the two helmets I've looked at so far, the helmet on the green figure in the pics doesn't fit very well and is loose. The other is solid and I like the look of that type of spec ops helmet.  The vests are really nicely done and I like the number of and positioning of the mount points, you have a lot of options of how to arrange the gear.  Each of the figures have two pouches that will hold magazines but I didn't have any MGR rifles with removable mags to try out...but I'm assuming they're working pouches and that's a solid design choice. The holsters and sheaths all hold the pistols and knives correctly and are pretty stable so the whole assembly will probably fall off before your weapon falls out when posing the figs.

All of the joints on the figures that I've looked over so far work well but do take a couple flexes to limber up. They all seem pretty solid with two exceptions; the hips and knees.  The hips have a socket on the leg side and a post w/ ball on the torso. They're friction fit together and can come apart without damaging anything.  I'm fine with that but the black figure has a really loose right socket on the hip and the leg kinda falls off.  All of the figures have the same knee "issue" in that the plastic insert feels really weak.  You can flex the leg side to side because the plastic is so soft.  It seems to hold up ok with the little moving I've been doing but I'm worried that over time it could break down or I'll snap it not paying close attention or something.

These are definitely geared for collectors and are perfect for customizing by swapping heads, vests and gear or even painting them up. They'll work almost as-is with your Joes but you can also work them into sci-fi stuff and even Star Wars. Some of the parts are really small and easily misplaced if you aren't paying attention. They're not really designed to get on the floor with and play unless you want to get into gluing some stuff in place.

Overall I'm happy with the figures that I got. I still need to get the grey, red and black figures out and assembled to get a look at the alternate tac vests and helmets with those figs. I was interested in the green as sort of an Aliens Marine figure and red as a Crimson Guard type character for my joes. Not sure yet what the other three will be for or where/how I'll fit them into my collection. They may just end up being generic Joe type figures somewhere.

I would recommend these for anyone that has a use for highly customizable figures in dios and that type of thing. Know what you're getting into with the accessories and you'll have a lot of fun with them I think.

I put in votes for the three TESB bounty hunters to round out the set, because I don't know if they're popular enough for Hasbro to do them on their own. When it comes to other characters, I figure if the "man on the street" may recognize them if I showed them a photo, there's no need to vote for them.  Grievous, Jango? They fall into that category.  So I voted for a bunch of female characters that deserve some respect. And Jaxxon...just because I feel the need to keep that name out there....I want him and I don't care what scale.

And I've seen the votes for Ahsoka also and my view is if you're a collector and you don't pay enough attention to know that the ONE reveal Hasbro had at Celebration was her, you don't deserve to vote... I have seen a couple people tack on a Rebels tag for her, but if we're already getting a CW version, which she's more famous for, cut it out.

It's been a while now but I found one of the big displays of figures at B&N and picked up an Alien and Rocketeer.  I like them both and was happy to see them in person rather than ordering online.

My Target moved on from BttF to Firefly and they disappeared the other day and they have Horror figs like the Crow and Freddy Kruger.  It seems like Target is rotating them out which is cool. I'm hoping they maintain that end cap of collector figures, even the Funko Pop! Vinyl and Disney blind-boxed stuff is selling well.  Not so much the 6"-ish video game characters.

I also saw a bunch of figures at TRU last time I was in and looked through the other Alien figures along with Terminator and a few other lines.

Joe Defender / Re: GI Joe - The Black Series?
« on: December 11, 2014, 06:04 PM »
I don't know if the 4" Star Wars line will ever go away or if they'll even completely abandon the collector market that is targeted by the $10 BS line partly because they're so far into it that changing up scales could alienate a huge part of their base and also it's still less expensive than a 5" or 6" line.  Besides, who knows what Lucasfilm/Disney is thinking, they may be mandating a 4" line.  Until they're not.

I think you may be right on the GIJ line when it comes to production.  With movies for four Marvel properties and Transformers all in theaters this year and Rebels on TV, that doesn't leave a lot of room for a property that's seen sagging sales in a movie year and only has a comic to support it. Why waste production line time or have to fight for more shelf space at retail?

I know it's a good marketing move for Hasbro to have product for a film like Amazing Spider-Man or Guardians, but I think they should take a page out of Marvel's playbook and integrate their movie figures into a cohesive line for collectors. They're sort of doing this with the Marvel Infinite line now but if they had one branding and just release regular waves themed around the current movie property and then fill in with general releases to fill in the gaps it would make it easier to give attention to other lines like GI Joe.

I'm really looking towards the FSS 3.0 line of Joe figs from the Club though and I can not wait until my Marauder's figures show up.  In the end I probably won't loose any sleep over Hasbro not doing Joe at retail if these kinds of alternatives exist.

I've been completely underwhelmed with the SW 6" scale stuff.  Of the three figures I've picked up all have what I consider to be major flaws whether it was in design or manufacturing.  I wouldn't be in for any of the Joe stuff either.

And Jesse, Joe isn't quite dead but outside of the GI Joe Club, it's really just a movie year property for Hasbro now.  Apparently they have new person in charge of the brand at Hasbro though so maybe we will see something more than the 50th Anniversary stuff?

Target stores are adding a new collectibles end cap and they have things like the Funko Pop! vinyl stuff, blind-boxed Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, and Marvel bobble heads and some ReAction figures.  Mine had only 3 when I found them last night; all Back to the Future stuff and just Marty.  I've seen some pics online of other properties.  Was hoping for a mix, get some Alien and Rocketeer maybe.

Anyway, be on the lookout.
