Star Wars Anthology / Re: Star Wars Spin-Off #2 - Han Solo!
« on: July 8, 2015, 10:59 AM »
Han being in the Imperial Academy is something that has been fodder for the EU but never made it into the films.  I'm not sure if the life debt got mentioned in the OT, but it was certainly implied.  But the Lando story about the Falcon is canon from TESB.

1. No, I believe Han being in the Academy was from the early books before EU really heated up in the 90s.  Still, it's probably considered Legacy at this point.
2. The life debt was also an EU thing.

But as I said, I don't care what they do as long as it's a good story.

I forgot to mention about Solo's Wife that was recently revealed in the comics.  I'm not reading the comics, so it would be interesting if that would be included in the films and how that plays with Han's relationship with Leia.  But I would prefer not to have a love triangle or really a love interest in the movies.  Let it be an adventure film.

Star Wars Anthology / Re: Star Wars Spin-Off #? - Boba Fett?

So, with the announcement that young Han is #2, I wonder what the status of the Fett movie is?

There are also a couple of things that I'd really like to see in this project, but I also don't want to have Chris Miller and Phil Lord painted into a corner.
-How Han Solo earns the life debt from Chewbacca
-Han winning the Millenium Falcon from Lando in the Sabacc game

Wasn't Han supposedly in the Imperial Academy (and that's where he rescues Chewie)?  I thought I read that somewhere a long time ago... I could be wrong.  Han as a disgruntled Imperial would be interesting, but I'm up for a good story over anything else.

I'm sure we'll see Jabba or hear him referenced.  Bounty Hunters... it'd be nice to see Greedo, the Executor Six (as long as Fett isn't overused), but it'd be cool to see Cad Bane or Embo in there.  Let's throw in some Tonnika Sisters (or however Disney wants to call them) so we can get their figures.

Too bad you weren't in the row behind him so you could make large obnoxious comments throughout the movie...

Sabine Wren is an interesting choice for fans.  I would have thought that Kanan, Ezra or the Inquisitor would be more obvious choices for REBELS characters.

Someone posted on a JTA thread regarding Sabine,
Quote
I imagine the PR team freaked out when they saw a) no females in the finals and b) no representation from the current [Disney] media (Rebels). So, to heck with that whole "Top 6" thing, we'll just make it a Top 7 and add a character that fixes both deficiencies.

I believe Jayson said something similar as well after why there was a 7th finalist added to the list. (his was the first one I saw, but couldn't find the quote).

I understand what you mean by Sabine hasn't been developed much.  I hope that changes because she seems like a pretty cool character.  Visually, the most interesting of the crew of the Ghost and I hope we get to know more about her backstory soon.  I know Kanan and Ezra are the main characters, but I find them to be boring visually.

I just don't get that people say, "vote for x character because s/he is cooler and is least likely to get made."  Or "Don't vote for these guys because they will be made eventually."  That's a big assumption that any character is going to be made.  Hasbro could end the line at some point and I'd rather have a figure of a character that made an impact in the movies before anyone outside is made.  I'm pretty sure that all SW gamers/book fans have seen the movies, whereas not all SW movie fans have played the games or read the books.  This is where I think it's hard for some fans to support an EU figure.  It's great if an EU figure wins as that's what the poll's about, but I don't think it's one that everyone would be happy about.  If Lando or Ben won, I think people would be excited to get them.

Glad to see Sabine make the list, too.

I agree it would be a dick move if they said "No" to a bunch of votes since they didn't exclude them in their disclaimer.  If Revan is a part of the current canon EU, great!  It would be funny if, say, Thrawn (I'm assuming he's non-canonical) won.  I wonder how the suits at Disney would feel about that?  "Oh! The fans want a Star Wars figure that isn't considered Star Wars by us."

I guess I'll answer my own question by saying question, if it makes them money I doubt they'd care.

Once the voting is back in Hasbro/SW.com hands...

Do we also include Disney in this as well?  They pretty much own all things Star Wars now so any figure in that would win a fan poll would have to get their blessing.  They were the ones that said they wanted to focus on the OT and scraped the EU, so I'd be surprised if Disney would say, "Yeah, go with this EU character that is no longer canon in our Disney Star Wars Universe."

It's funny how Hasbro does a fun poll for the fans and the results have made the "pulse" rise from several people because they don't like Revan or EU or they are disappointed by the lack of representation from EU and assume all other PT or OT figures are guaranteed to be made.

It's a democracy, enjoy the bone that Hasbro gives us from time to time.

Gee, Rangers give up Cam Talbot and trade Hags.  The first I understand.  I don't think after the way Talbot stepped in and played as good as Lundquist that he would want to stick around and be back-up.  But Hags?  Man, he inspired.  I don't know what the front office is thinking, but I would think they'd want to get someone to rally the team and unload St. Louis and Nash since they aren't performing when it counts.

B&M aren't really stocking those and it doesn't pay to try to luck out on 1 figure (or 4 of the same character) on the pegs at Targets.  TRU hasn't been restocking 3.75" stuff  lately in my area.  6" has been better at Wal-Mart, but they don't have 3.75" at all.  In regards to MS/SL/Rebels, the pegs are stocked but product isn't moving.  That's why I bought the last few TBS figures of the line online before TFA stuff hits.  I might never find it in store... I had more faith in finding the 6" Boushh and Iggy in the stores but when Amazon had them for $16, I pulled the trigger.

I want better articulated figures... I guess I was spoiled for the past 10+ years.  To see the route of going back to 5 PoA could possibly be the future, then I'm out.  Even 5 points was supposed to make it cheaper for everyone, but the prices are getting up to where TBS figures were a year ago. *shrugs*  So they aren't really a deal in my opinion if I were interested.  Plus, if I wanted 5 PoA, I'd just pull out the vintage Kenner figures.  I guess I hope that Hasbro continues to put out wanted super-articulated figures and not just the usual rehashes of Vader, Fett, and Obi-Wan.  Bring on the Tonnikas, Tvizzzit and other cantina denizens and Jabba's Palace goons and Imperial Dignitaries.

That said, I think I'm refraining from TFA figures.  Space issues is one thing, money is another... plus, I'm thinking that these are going to be Disney's World of Star Wars now and not necessarily Lucas'.  I may pick up a couple if the figure is cool looking, and as long as there's more than 5 points of articulation to them.  But I have never bought something Star Wars just because it's got the logo on it.

Less collecting competition I guess.

True.  But you'd have to have Jeff, Jayson, Dave, Justin and some other guys that live in the Twin Cities give up collecting and I don't see that happening with them.

Pulse is ironic, considering how near-dead Star Wars has been at retail.

Well, the Pulse isn't just aimed at Star Wars: there's Joe, Transformers and My Little Pony... so maybe some of those have been keeping the pulse?  Probably MLP.  My daughter is big into these now, so I'm still buying Hasbro product when there's no SW to buy.

Since it's been confirmed, James Horner.  :'(

Some great soundtracks of his accompanied and made movies spectacular.  Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan being one.

I don't recall the modern TVC one having two blades Steve?  You sure?

He had landmines, two blasters, and the blade but I thought that was it?

Yeah, I looked through pics and verified it came with one blade.  But now I'm not sure where the other curved blade came from.  I will have to consult with Jayson about who comes with such a knife... if it is indeed Star Wars.
