Revenge of the Sith / Re: Target Figure with Cup Sets

I actually though the ROTS cups would go on clearance due to poor sales. I wonder if they produced less this time around or sold more.

I have to admit that this looks like a nice piece. I might have to pick an extra one up to open.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: ROTS DVD Nov 1st

He better do the definitive set. If he doesn't, I'll blame the Star Wars community at large for making him release the other prequels before he was ready. >:(

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Can Sith Beat Titanic?

I think the lackluster performances of AOTC and TPM (as far as public opinion goes) really hurt ROTS's chances...  People sour on a franchise and I think a lot soured on Star Wars after 1999 passed us by.

No, I think it has to do with the fact the ROTS isn't that better than it's prequel predicessors (as far a public opinion goes.)  :o

Actually, I think what everyone has to realize is that Star Wars has s built in audience. Unless the films were God Awful, they would earn $300 miliion plus easy per film if they kept making them, and it would be roughly the same audience. What'll keep it going is getting John Q Publics butt's in the seats, and that's done with strong word of mouth. I know ROTS is getting favorable reviews and is hailed the best of the prequels, but that's not saying much if you're not a Star Wars fan and if word of mouth isn't that strong, which it's not for ROTS.

I keep telling the people that it's actually AOTC that contains the worst crimes against acting, dialogue and use of CG, but no one will listen  ;D

TPM wasn't that bad....no...really!

I agree 100%, but ROTS contains the worst crimes against storytelling :P ;D

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Any ROTS figures you will pass on?

I'd keep the rubber band on Exploding Grievous. I cut the one on mine off (stupid) and now his torso doesn't stay with the legs.

I got another rubber band to put around him, and it's hidden well by the cape, so I like like it better this way.

I'm not being facetious at all when I say this, but I don't know why that never occured to me. ??? I guess sometimes I over think things.

Yeah, and IIRC, I think we may have one in the OTC section too, where we were expecting these 3 cups to actually show up.  So, what's the going price on a set of them from the OTC Japan line?  I have a bad feeling I'm gonna have to pony up for those now...  :'(

Actually, they were NEVER "officially" released in Japan as other sites would have you believe.

As an intrepid reporter once said, only salesman samples ever showed up on eBay for the cup sets in the OTC packaging.  Only a VERY few ever showed up on eBay, like 1-3 sets that I ever saw, all from the same seller.

Amazon Japan took pre-orders, but the pre-orders were never filled, they just kept postponing the due date every month for about 9 months, then finally gave up.

In fact, most Japanese e-tailers that still have the OTC version for pre-order now mention the new packaging.

Jeff

Wow! Thatnks for that tid bit Jeff. I was thinking of tracking these down one day, but now, why bother?

Yeah, looks like the price hike's gonna be across the board here, with most/all WM's joining the fray with their new $5.88 prices, so they can remain "competitive" with Target after their similar price hike...  :P

Well, as of yesterday they were still $5.24 at our Wal-Marts. Let's hope this holds. I know this is wishful thinking, but the prices could still vary regionally.

I just read a report on GH about the cup sets selling for $12.99 now.  ::)

You beat me to the punch, I was going to report the same finding. :-\

So, are there any sets beyond these? What are we missing, pic-wise?

Plain Standing, Kneeling and Prone

Red Standing, Green Kneeling, Blue Prone

Red Standing, Plain Kneeling and Prone

I think the pack with all three clones colored is a mock up. I can't say for sure, but I don't think we're getting it. In addition to the red standind pack, pictures are floating around of the green kneeling pack.

Yeah, I was wondering about that as well. Where was it supposed to fit in?

Saga Collection '06 / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting
« on: June 6, 2005, 12:37 PM »
I loved reading everyone's perspectives. As for the future of collectiong, I thinks it's imposible to say, yet I know what to expect. Over the years it seems Hasbro has been trying to adapt to what everyone wants. Granted, it's taken almost ten years, but  I think they're getting the hang of it. Sure there's going to be less than stellar figures out there, but that's to be expected.

Overall, I'm optimistic. I think were going to see a lot of quality figures for many more years to come.

If there's anything we can count on from Hasbro, it's consistancy. They are not going to ship the varient randomly in the same case assortment, that's not what they did for the Clone Wars series. The white clones are in wave 3 rotation 1. I'm going to guess that at the very least, there is going to be four more rotations, 3 with a different color variation in each and one with all three in the same 3-pack. Hopefuly, they'll kick the quantity up to 2 per case, but that reamins to be seen. So when anyone finds a colored 3 pack, try to take note of the R# and case ratio.

Has anybody thought about buying some of the cheapo stormtroopers you can find in the under-the-counter bin for like $0.50 becaues they're so yellow that taxi cabs get jealous and tried repainting them white and adding all the black parts back where they should be with paint or a sharpie?

I'm thinking it might be a fun way to army build vintage stormtroopers without hardly any cost other than the weapons.

I've actually done that as you can see in the image below. Personally, I wasn't overly happy with the results, I couldn't find a white to best match the color of the armor and my attempts on the helmet were blah to say the least...

This is funny. I have 15 Stormies now, but 11 of them I recently got in a large lot of stuff. There were lots of army builder stuff, so they didn't focus on anything in particular in the pictures. All but one stormie was painted like the one in this picture. I spent a lot of time removing the paint and still haven't been able to get all the paint out of the mouth grill.
