Vintage Kenner / Re: Wow - Cool eBay Auctions

ya it is definetly overpriced, but then again where would you find stuff like he has

On eBay and on boards like this.  :)  Some of the stuff he has is definitely rare (some of the POTF proofs), but not worth nearly what he's asking.  And something like a POTF Amanaman for $5000...laughable, at best.  Give me 25 of them for that price.  ;)

DBB has no reason to close the original Cobain thread.  JOHN made some comments, but 95% of the content was interesting posts about Kurt Cobain.  Like L J said, DBB locked the thread, and sided with M-Kenobi.

Hold the phone partner...are you actually saying that *I* made some negative comments in the Cobain thread?  Please tell me you're not serious.

I don't know if anyone else has seen this guys stuff, but it is freakin awsome!!!!

HolyCrap

Nice stuff, but horrificly overpriced.  He lists them over and over again too...I don't see how the eBay fees don't eat him alive.

That's actually less of an insult and more of a legitimate recommendation.  ;)

Of course I expect some jackhole there to pipe up with "What a dumb thing to say!  What if he doesn't know that stuff is dangerous!"

Amen.  I can't say I've encountered a bigger ass on any Star Wars forum.  He takes it to the absolute extremity...I actually considered putting his posts on ignore because 99% of what he says just makes my skin crawl, and I have never even considered doing that with another user.  Arrogant, shallow, closed-minded, self-deitizing little jackass if you ask me.

John

Disclaimer:  I don't know if "deitizing" is an actual word, but if not it really should be.  :)

I wish I could agree that it's just the community there and not RS itself, but it starts at the top.  Phil Wise does a **** job of running the place...it's his sandbox if you don't play by his rules he'll take his toys and go inside.  A couple of the admin there are really cool, but the mods that I've had encounters with are chodes.  I miss the old days of the BHC, and while the vintage section is the closest thing to a community we have it still doesn't touch the way it used to be.  Really the only reason I go to RS is for some occasional vintage knowledge, to use the classifieds, and sometimes I'll go cause a ruckus at Wuhers.  :P

Personally I'd love to see the vintage crowd migrate to another site (either here or GH, I really don't care) and to see some of the quality users of other sections find their way away from RS as well.  Nothing would please me more than to see Phil Wise's big fancy site become a ghost town.  :)  OK, there are other things, like seeing matkatnadam/misterkenobi devoured by rabid pirhanas, but I'll leave that fantasy for another day.

Modern Classifieds / WTB Kubrick Snaggletooth & Nien Nunb
« on: December 3, 2005, 11:11 PM »
As sweet as the Kubrick line is, there's no way I'm going to be able to collect them all.  :)  However, I absolutely have to have Snaggletooth & Nien Nunb, two of my all-time favorites.  Can anyone help me out with these?  Thanks in advance.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: So, Are You Happy with the Prequel Trilogy?
« on: December 3, 2005, 12:57 AM »
The prequel trilogy is god's gift to mankind, and if you don't agree you're a ******* idiot.

...

Sorry...matkatnadam took over my keyboard for just a minute there.

they could have been so much more.

My thoughts exactly.  While the overall PT ended up being a big disappointment (despite a strong finish with ROTS) and didn't nearly live up to its potential, I'm still glad I was able to see three new movies in the Star Wars saga.  There were just too many mistakes made for me too take them too seriously though.  Lucas should have stayed as far away from the director's chair as possible and let someone with some talent do that job.  He's a great storyteller but a horrible writer and terrible with actors.  The stories were good and there were some good characters, but the execution was horrible and the end result were two very dry and uninspiring movies plus a good movie with a handful of dull and uninspiring moments.  And I hold a bit of a grudge against the PT...without it, Crazy George never would have had reason to make his abhorrent changes to the OT.

So, am I happy with it?  Nah, not necessarily, but I'll still pop in a DVD from time to time.  :)

Ugh.  I honestly don't know what gets on my nerves more...the mods at RS or the incessant bitching and moaning about scalping.  So the guy tried to sell something available at retail for more than cost?  Big ******* deal...ignore him and move on.

DarkDestiny, don't feel bad, I got banned from RS, too.  It's great.... thpppp

No kidding?  I didn't see the scalper stuff Josh just referred to, but I was wondering if it was it for the masturbation comments?

About the dog thing:

Really, who's worse...the guy that joked about giving a dog chocolate or the yutz who went to a SW forum for his pet's needs rather than a vet or even an animal-related website?  Honestly, that's just flat out stupid.  Maybe Dark Destiny's comment was off-color, but in my opinion the original poster deserved a lot more flak than that sarcastic remark.  And for those saying "what if the owner didn't know and actually gave him chocoloate"...are you kidding?  Anyone that doesn't know that dogs can't eat chocolate shouldn't own a ******* dog.

As far as his banning, I think that was a big harsh as well.  I like Dave, but I think he acted a bit hastily, assuming the comment was the sole reasoning behind the banning.  He should have at least been warned first.

As far as Dustin:

Quote
"You're Phillip Wise's Rick McCallum"

Solid...*******...gold.  :D

Vintage Kenner / Re: AFA - Good or Bad?
« on: November 23, 2005, 03:33 PM »
I used to hate AFA, with the exception of the fact that they could verify the authenticity of items such as a vinyl Jawa, DT figure, etc.  Since then, however, I have seen them grade Chewbaccas and authenicate them as "green limbed", and (this is the best) grade a loose Leia Boushh with a Nikto staff, among seemingly countless other obvious errors.  So at this point, I see AFA as a completely useless entity.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the sheer entertainment value that people like you have to offer.
