Modern Classifieds / FS: Custom painted OTC Millenium Falcon
« on: November 19, 2018, 10:32 PM »
I posted how I did the work over in the customs thread, so if you're interested go over there and take a look.  I've gotten what I wanted from this, so I'd like to get it moved to an appreciative fan.  I'm asking $75 OBO plus shipping.  I'm motivated to sell, so if you're interested, feel free to make an offer as long as it isn't a lowball.

Star Wars Ships and Vehicles / Custom painted OTC Millenium Falcon
« on: November 19, 2018, 10:27 PM »
I've been wanting to do this for a while.  I couldn't bring myself to spend the cash for a BMF repaint, so I initially planned to get a POTF2 version and work from there.  Well, the VTC came up for a good price and I picked it up, right after I had purchased a POTF2 that needed a few parts.  So I stripped the POTF2 of what I needed and put them in place.  Then I went to work.

Simply put, all I did was paint.  I masked and then primed the entire ship in white.  Then I sprayed two coats of white to the ship.  After that, I painted the different hull plates different colors.  After that, I went to work on the various pipes and painted several of them.  Then it was off to paint all the various access points.  Following each access point, I would run thinner all over the area, and then wipe it down with a cloth.  This would allow the colors to thin and run.  Then I went with a thinner based black wash in which I took a brush that had been dabbed in black, then ran the brush all over a section of the hull.  Then I'd quickly wipe that down in a certain direction, and then put my brush in thinner and rub the thinner everywhere, and again, use the cloth to smear it.  After that I added various coolant drips and use the wipe technique for that.  The last part of the hull was to get some a window screen repair kit, and cut out six discs and put them on the vents at the rear.  Then I used the smear technique again and that was the end of the outer hull.

Inside, all I did was mask everything off, and then paint with a gunmetal color.  Then I used a dry silver brush to add some weather to the floor.  I did this in the cargo area and the cockpit.  Then I painted the main gun and the radar dish, using the same base color and then black wash.  The last step was spraying a dull coat to seal the colors.  Overall, I'm pretty happy with the project.  There are some things I would do differently next time, and would probably be a little more conservative with the black wash.  So I'm claiming this is the darker looking MF from ESB.

Also, I've gotten what I wanted from this, so I'd like to get it moved to an appreciative fan.  I'm asking $75 OBO plus shipping.  I'm motivated to sell, so if you're interested, feel free to make an offer as long as it isn't a lowball.

Vintage Kenner / Vintage Beater Millenium Falcon
« on: September 25, 2018, 05:55 PM »
I know that the classified boards don't get a lot of traffic, so I thought I'd post here.  I'm looking to do a custom repaint of a MF.  I don't want to get a good quality one because I don't want to ruin what value it might still be holding.  I'm looking for one that has gear, the landing ramp, the canopy cover, main gun with glass, and back cover...or at least all of that as possible. I'd also take a POTF2 if anyone has one.

Hit me up and let me know.

Vintage Kenner / Does anybody buy vintage cardbacks anymore?
« on: July 17, 2018, 06:54 PM »
I've gotten out of the SW buying/selling/collecting business and still have a few things I'm going to get rid of.  Does anybody still buy vintage cardbacks?  I've got a handful from my Han Solo focus.

Also, is AFA still in business?  I thought about getting a Han Solo loose figure graded that I pulled from a badly cracked bubble, but am uncertain if I'm going to get it graded.  I'm not sure if AFA is still in business being that I couldn't pull up their website.  Second, I'm not sure if the payoff will be enough to justify sending the figure in.

Watto's Junk Yard / Done with Grad school!!!
« on: December 20, 2013, 06:39 AM »
Happily, I have finished grad school!!!  In February I will be conferred with a Masters of Arts in Military History with a concentration on War Since 1945.

This week my thesis was approved by the History department with no edits.  Being that all my coursework was online, there is really no way for an oral defense.  So instead, I had a very rigorous set of readers go through it with a fine tooth comb.  I was told it was solid, and my only problem was the future need for even more proofreading (I agree after reading through it for a fourth and fifth time after I thought I had caught all my errors) and also to dig even deeper in my research.

I received an A in the project class, and therefore should graduate with honors.  I'm stoked as I've worked really hard the past few years.  I know my wife is excited to finally have me back and not pounding away on the keyboard for 2-3 hours every night.

Anyhow, I'm excited and just wanted to share...now I need to go see if I can upgrade to a new job with better pay.

Watto's Junk Yard / Gotta have ACL surgery for my dog
« on: May 17, 2012, 03:26 PM »
My buddy (and my daughter's best friend) tore her ACL Tuesday night (degenerative condition).  So, I have to go see a surgeon on Monday to get the options and prices for her.  She's a six year old lab/pitt mix.  If she were older and not very active, I'd probably just bypass the days and keep her comfy.  But poor dog is in a lot of pain and it kills me to see her this way.  I'm a softy where my dog is concerned.

I know there are several types of surgeries and most of them are very successful.  If you guys have had this issue, what was your experience, type of surgery, and cost?  I'm considering the ESLT procedure as it's the lowest cost and my vet said it should be pretty good for my dog.  I used to take her jogging with me, but in the past year or so, she's been primarily a fetch the ball dog and I haven't taken her on runs with me.

I haven't been collecting anything in several year and I've decided have much thought and debate that it's time for this stuff to go.  So I have a number of MOC figures for sale.  They are in varying conditions from split bubbles, yellowed, taped, etc.  Some of the cards have your typical dings in the corners and creases.  I'll try to be as accurate as possible with my descriptions.  All the prices are OBO and I'm willing to negotiate for the best deal for myself and potential buyers.  I haven't priced in some time so my prices may be off.  I'm happy to listen to offers and like I said, work something out for both of us.  Shipping on all figures will be $12 within the US and they will be shipped in a star case.  I don't just cram my stuff into a box and send it.

Make me an offer folks.  I'm more than willing to negotiate something good for both of us.

Han Solo via photobucket

12B  $80
This figure has a tear in the bottom of the card that has been taped and a bubble that has been taped back down.  I have no reason to believe the figure was ever removed or weapon taken out.

ROTJ 48 back $90
I have reason to believe the top part of the bubble has been resealed with glue.  There is a tear in the right corner inside the bubble where you can see the underlying card.  The rest of the bubble has the waffle pattern so it indicates to me that is the only thing that has been done.  There is also what looks like a pin hole in the top left hand corner.

ROTJ 65 $40
This figure I believe is the original with the original weapon.  It looks to me like the bubble came off at some point and was reglued by a previous owner.  The bubble also has a slit that I tried to show in the pictures.  If this was reglued, whoever did it did a phenomenal job of lining up the lines on the card and bubble.

ESB 45 $65
Slight creasing in the bottom middle of the card.  The POP was cut out of the bottom left corner.  Good looking card aside from the POP.

ROTJ 79 $60
Edge wear all around and yellowed bubble.  Creases on the bottom right corner.  Creases and some tearing on the bottom right on the back.  Somebody also tried to remove the Anakin offer sticker from the back.

ROTJ 77 camo collar $50

Slightly, and I mean very slightly yellowed bubble.  It looks really good for an ROTJ.  There is some edge wear and on the right side there is a ding in the edge.  On the back there is a crease where the bubble/figure were pressed onto the card.  One of the price tags is lifting but I'm not taking it off.

ROTJ 77 non camo collar $60

Yellowed bubble.  Also on the front right there looks to be some sort of "scrape".  There is also a slight crease in the back.

ROTJ 79 non camo collar $50

Typical ROTJ yellow bubble and some slight creasing to the top right of the bubble.  It has some edge wear, but not much.

ROTJ Han/Madine two pack $110

I'm not sure on the price for this one.  Ebay only had a couple listed.  If I'm way off the mark on the price I'm sure somebody will let me know.  It's in the usual condition for one of these packs.  The bubble is all kinds of banged up and the edge wear can be heavy in some spots.  The price tag was torn off the top right side before I owned it and can be scene in the pic.  There is some creasing to the top left and bottom left.  All in all though, this one displays pretty nicely.

Watto's Junk Yard / Finished my first half marathon!!
« on: April 11, 2010, 05:43 PM »
I've been training the past couple of months to run a half marathon and completed my goal today!!

I know in the grand scheme of things it's not that big a thing to most, but it is something I've always wanted to do.  My time was 2:32 and was averaging about 11 minutes a mile or so until I got to somewhere around mile 9.  Miles 9-12 I took off and was near a 10 minute mile and then just fell off for the last mile and didn't keep track here, but guess I was near a 12-13 minute mile.

Watto's Junk Yard / I'm a student again
« on: December 18, 2009, 02:29 PM »
Well, I finally am getting onto my Masters work. I filled out all the online forms yesterday and will be attending the online American Military University.

I was looking through my classes for my Masters program last nigh and I kept thinking WTF am I doing? Of course, my school district requires you to have a masters within 10 years of starting there and they pay for $7500 of it, so it's not all bad. I'll only be out of pocket a few thousand.

The Masters will be in Military History, but I can't decide on my concentration yet. I've got an option of four, Revolutionary War era (I do love this subject), Civil War era, WWII, and war since 1945 (of which I have first hand experience). So I'm torn between the first and the last. I've also thought about going the Political Science route or the Military Studies route with a concentration in Asymmetric Warfare, but I think I'm leaning away from that as I'll be a little more marketable to one of the local universities.

I'm sure a lot of that was just mumbo jumbo to some, but we know all types of people and backgrounds make up our hobby.

Watto's Junk Yard / What are some movies you can't stop watching?
« on: November 16, 2009, 04:18 PM »
My wife and I have this discussion from time to time.  We'll see a movie on TV and will flip to it.  There are some that once you start watching, you just can't stop.  What are some that you guys like?

For me some are:

Forrest Gump
Band of Brothers series
Pulp Fiction
Tombstone
Back to the Future (all of them)
Lethal Weapon (all of them)
Blackhawk Down
Talladega Nights
Anchorman
Dodgeball
Oceans 11
The Day after Tomorrow (I have no idea why either)

I'm sure there are more that I'll think of later and add.

Watto's Junk Yard / Your fantasy band, who do you pick??
« on: March 9, 2009, 09:11 AM »
Okay, let's put chemistry aside.  We all know that most good bands have great musical chemistry and personalities clash.  So put the personalities aside and pick your fantasy band.  I'll even be nice for those of us who like multiple people and say you can have an alternate at each instrument.

My pick:
Lead singer: Sebastian Bach and maybe Axl as a backup
Lead Guitar: Slash with Joe Perry as the backup
Rhythm guitar: Mick Marrs
Bass guitar:  Nikki Sixx with Flea as the backup
Drums: Tommy Lee might make Rikki Rocket the backup

I guess it's obvious where my musical influence is and what I love to listen to.

Watto's Junk Yard / Dogs returning from Iraq
« on: October 14, 2008, 10:58 AM »
Hopefully we can leave this link up here.  I don't want this to be any discussion of politics, war, or anything else.  I'm an animal lover and for whatever reason this story really go to me and I really would like for this dog to come home and be with a new owner who has cared for it while she was stationed in Iraq.  Please sign
this petition and make your voice heard that you'd also like this dog to come to the US.
