Watto's Junk Yard / Re: So how many times have you seen it?

3 times for me now.  I still find it riveting, enthgralling, and profound!  I'm so glad it rocks!

Well, I'd actually really like to see the lightsaber effects that went out of whack with the new color-timing job fixed. That includes the green tint of Luke's saber during the blast shield scene and the varying color of Vader's saber during the final battle on the DS2.

But I guess those fall under quality control issues more than artistic choices.

Certainly.  I think the Greedo thing would apply for quality control as well.   ;)

actually, the important cut scene with grevious is with him lighting a big stogie...this is the reason for his cough....but they filmed him smoking the whole thing and couldn't afford to waste 40 minutes on a side plot character smoking....it slowed down the pace of the movie.
TND

Wow, now that's some good trivia!   ;)

I was worried that since I kept up with all the spoilers I was going to be let down but ROTS met and exceeded my expectations.

Very cool bud.  You are one of the rare ones (at least on this thread) where spoilers didn't ruin the flick.  Right on!

Ah, nicely done (English myself)!  :)

In 10 years, will I regret having a complete collection minus JarJar?

I think I would probably get one, just from a completist's perspective.

I think people will see the total lack of the Emperor in ANH as strange, given he's very prominent in Ep 1 to 3. I suspect that there will be some kind of Vader-Emperor scene in ANH edited in, also to explain why Bad-ass Vader suddenly plays second fiddle to Tarkin.

I hope there are no more changes.  There don't need to be anymore, unless he makes Han shoot first.   ;)

I don't think it's strange that the Emperor isn't in ANH; I think it adds depth.  Even though he does not appear, his presence is still felt.  Vader is still there, the Empire is strong, and Tarkin is running the show,  This isn't a weakness at all.  It would be weaker if the audience had to be reminded about the character.  This lets the audeince use their imagination, and piece together information that isn't present.  Yoda is not in ANH either, because it would not make sense from a narrative perspective to just insert him.  In the first LOTR's film, we don't see any Ents, yet that does not lessen their impact once they appear in the second film.

... also to explain why Bad-ass Vader suddenly plays second fiddle to Tarkin.

Admit, in ANH, Tarkin is the main Bad Guy, and Vader is his evil ruthless henchman.
That does not gell with Ep 1 to 3, and 5 + 6.

I think it gels very well, hence the tragedy of Vader is more palpable; in spite of all his power, and attempt to gain more, he is still under the Emperor's thumb (just as he thought he was with the Jedi council), and under Tarkin's "leash" (to quote a certain Princess).

I like the themes of self-fullfilling prophecy in Star Wars...

As far as Anakin's conception is concerned, it could be that Plagueis was trying to create a perfect weapon for the Sith because of the prophecy of the Chosen One who would destroy the Sith. Darth Plagueis then unwittingly created that which he was trying to stop.

I really like the self-fullfilling prophecy idea.  You must have an English degree.   :)

I finally got to see it again for the second time.  Hell it was much better the second viewing.  I don't know.  Maybe it is better than ROTJ?  Well I have ROTJ at #3.

I don't know Brian.  Jedi is pretty great.  Watch it again, and you'll see.  It is even more powerful aftr seeing ROTS.  I think we all have a proclivity to think less highly of Jedi, but it is still a heck of a great film.  Han Solo's wit (even when tempered by love) is irreplaceable, and who can forget the joy you first felt when you saw Luke in his black Jedi tunic.  Of course, you are a wise young Jedi, so hey, it's all good.   ;)

Wow...there's definitely a trend of people who were all into spoilers not liking this film and those who tried to avoid them liking it.

I'm glad I resisted the temptation.

Same here!!  Believe me, I avoided spoilers like the plague (just ask Darth Broem), and that helped my enjoyment of the film.  Spoilers are more hype tools that increase expectations, and I learend my lesson about expectations from Episode I.

Anyone else have a similar experience?
This is what Star Wars is all about.  Not overpriced exclusive action figures or life size statues or the fifth variation of Anakin's Starfighter: the films, the stories, and the connections that we all have made because of them.

Great point Dr. Padawan.  There are a lot of strong connections to my childhood due to Star Wars.  I too took my Mom to see ROTS, and we had a great time.  She took me to all of the movies as a kid, and I have repaid the favor.  She even watched Clones with me on DVD two weeks before Sith came out.  That was so cool!   :)

I am pretty shocked at the amount of people who don't like this film.  It has the most weight and depth of any of the prequels, and was very powerful emotionally.  I stayed away from all spoilers, and as a result, had no expectations.  I think this is a piece of evidence that illustrates that spoilers do more harm then good.   It reminds me of when I saw The Two Towers for the first time; I kept expecting to see Shelob, and she never appeared.  If I hadn't read the book before, I wouldn't have expected this.  It seems that some of fans are having simillar experiences with Sith.  However, I am not one of them, thank goodness.  After seeing Phantom Menace, I learned my lesson not to have any expectations for these prequels.

I believe there's a cut scene of Grievous executing Shaak Ti on the Invisible Hand.  This scene at a minimum should have been left in to at least show Grievous doing something other than lose a fight.  He's supposed to be this lethal jedi killer and all we did is see him run away from the first fight, then lose the second.  That doesn't look too ferocious from where I'm standing.  Hell, Lucas could have put me in, and I could have run like a girl from the first fight and lost a second.

 :D
Ha!  LOL!  Good points.  I too enjoyed Grievous a bit more in the cartoons, but he was still a cool character, and, as Darth Broem said, seeing the four lightsabers, and the amount of time that it took Obi-Wan to dispatch Grievous certainly helped to legitimize him in my book.

Which brings up a good point of discussion:
General Grievous-Force wielding Sith guy, or bad a$$ droid who is very fast and lethal, but has no knowledge of the Force?

I'm going with choice # 2.

I don't mind 85% of the changes on the SEs and the DVDs, but I really wish the originals were available simply for historical, archival reasons.

Absolutely!  This is the never ending debate, but for pure history and nostalgia, I want the originals as well!!

Wouldn't it be cool if Lucas had a website where you pick which portions of the movies you like (SE verses Classics), and this would be edited into your own personal "definitie edition"?
