The Black Series 3.75" Figures / Re: Black Series Rumors
« Last post by Darby on Today at 04:54 PM »
Yeah I just shrugged at this. No doubt some of these guys are in development, because you know, what else, but I think it's clear from what we've seen recently that the 'collector line' is not going to generate a ton of excitement and certainly not 18 figures at a crack. Maybe for the movie next year (probably) but I'd like to see some follow up from some of the places that leaned on this. A lot of the comments I see out and about regarding 'other sites' and their reporting makes me think what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

For me the vinyl cape Jawa was something of an urban egend and probably explains my fascination with the Jawas in general. From the EB set and some of the catalogs (Sears? I forget) I expected this one but never found it. Few if anyone even knew about it and among my circle of friends, very poor and far from any completeists, it was positively mythical. This was before there was a real understanding of variations. Most people did not know/care about Blue/Red Snags; DT Luke; etc. It was only after the line ended, mostly in the early 90's, again for us, that any of this became interesting. Yakface was not a figure I became aware of until the early 90's. I was 11 in 1985 when the line ended, and my interest transferred swiftly to Joes and Transformers. By '87 I found girls and rock and roll and the rest is history. Until I got back into collecting, of course, early-mid 90's, and reconnected with Star Wars. I always like the Jawas and the VC Jawa always remained an object or goal. I finally got mine about 4 or 5 years ago. Glad I did as I recently paid twice as much for my DT Luke, a figure that is rare but I think is fair to say not as rare as the VC Jawa.
I've been going at it since 7:30am EST and yes the Scrabble Game looks tempting...  being an 80's kid I'm more tempted by the Easy Bake Oven more though...  lol

Thanks a lot!  ::)

It may tip the scales on me buying one, unfortunately.

The order time for the base was extended 5 days.  So now more time to mull one over.  Ugh.

I should have mine this week Jesse, I'll be sure to break it open and provide a full report on the awesomeness!  :)

I was surprised and excited to find the Shane with Baseball Cap TV redux figure today at my local comic shop. No other figures, just him, but I was able to pick from 4 so I got one with nice paint apps.

I have no idea what sort of traditional stores might carry these...Walgreen's maybe?

Glad to have this though, I basically decided last night that I am only going to focus on the TV figures going forward, so this seems like a nice unspoken validation of that choice. (Collector logic)

Happy hunting!

Glad to see that I'm not the only one watching that page like a hawk.
Is that Scrabble School Program tempting anyone yet?  :D

There is a Star Wars exhibit at the Minnesota History Museum's "Toys of the 70's."  Only one guy's experience, but the guy who donated the original 12 figures and collector stand says a few lines about this.  He was one of the kids that got the Early Bird certificate picturing all the figures.  When the EB set arrived and the others showed up in stores months later, he comments that he and his friends were surprised to find the cloth cloak Jawa instead of the vinyl cape pictured.  He doesn't talk about the value, but that the cloth seemed out of place since so many of the other figures were sporting vinyl.

That leads me to believe he was pretty rare right out of the gate and even some of the kids knew it.  There wasn't the same level of media or collector mentality, so it's probably very hard to assess how widespread the news was or what people might have paid to get one back then.  I'm not even sure where people whould have gone to buy one second hand in the late 70's, but I thought it was an interesting experience.  I figured VC Jawa was out for a while, not instantly replaced by the cloth version.
