The Wiggles!
« on: July 16, 2003, 03:46 PM »
My son (16 months old) recently fell in love with 4 crazy guys from Downunder called Wiggles: Jeff, Murray, Anthony and Greg.  Tack on a Crazy Pirate Captain Feathersword, Wags the Dog, Henry the Octopus and Dorothy the Dinosaur and you have the biggest thing since Barney

Their show is on the Disney Channel two or three times a day in the mornings, they have a slew of tapes, CDs and DVDs out as well

Well, what brought this all up is that we are going to a Wiggles concert in August which is one of 4 sold out shows.  Tickets to the shows are being scalped on eBay for $100 a piece!  It is amazing, and the momentum is just starting.

Anyone else involved in Wigglemania?

I've never heard of them before.  But then again, I don't have kids to watch shows like that.  Do you really think this will become as popular as Barney, Thomas the Train, and all those other types of shows?

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My girlfriend was doing my hair for a wedding and I had to suffer through one of those tapes so she could keep her little girl entertained while "Mommy" was busy.   I guess it's really popular and she picked up the videos because her daughter watched them at daycare all the time.
It is cute but because those days are FAR behind me, I was really hoping for a power outage or something . ;)

I hope you enjoy the show.  I took my son to the Teenage Mutant Ninja show when that was all the rage and we had the best time!!  ( Jeff was older than 16 months but it's still a blast to do stuff like that with them).

Unfortunately, I am aware of who they are.  ::)  I have a 5 yr old niece who used to watch them all the time and whenever I was over at my moms when my niece was there too, it was always on there.

There's something about them that gives me the creeps.

Basically these guys all sing and dance around, their musicianship is quite good.  Some original song, some old classics.  I can take them over Barney any day...it gets old fast though...more info

My actual favorite Kid's singer so far is Raffi, a Canuckian

Personally, I happen to like the Wiggles. We watch them when I babysit the neighbor kids sometimes and it keeps them entertained. They sing funny songs that the kids can sing and dance along with.

Damn you all!!  My kids have finally stopped watching the wiggles.  I have been wiggle free for several months now after a few years of those morons and thier stupid red car!!

Now its all flooding back.. the horror, the horror!!

I'll be in the corner, weeping naked in the fetal position. ;)

Those little single songs at the start of the accursed Barney tapes are the highlight for me.  Fortunately the little miss (3) has mostly progressed beyond Barney and the Wiggles so we pretty much watch Disney movies all the time.

The Wiggles were less harmful (?) to my mental health than Barney.  I guess that's a positive thing to say.

They seem to be not playing instruments for real though.  It looks like they're singing, especially in the live performances, they seem suitably out of breath given what they do.

AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

I had to watch about five minutes of the show when I couldn't find the remote. Horrible music. I usually watch the Teen Disney Channel, and those shows can be just as bad as the kiddie shows sometimes.

See I hear this a lot and notice the posts above and say, look at the alternative.  I can actually stomach these guys compared to Barney or the Teletubbies (don't get me started on these yoho's)

What is really sad I guess is what Sesame Street has become.  Gone pretty much is the variety show (singing, comedy, morality) for kids with learning as part of the bit and here now is Elmo and crew preaching love, sharing and PC shoved down your throat.
