As expected... PEGWARMERS!
« on: October 9, 2003, 02:04 AM »
Well, we're several weeks into the new single carded Clone Wars figures, and as many of us suspected, and greatly feared, these things are now hanging in MASS ABUNDANCE, everywhere!   >:(  What really sucks about this, is that they are indeed sitting on the same pegs that would otherwise be allocated to the Saga figures, which seem to have been disappearing or getting pulled from the shelves to make room for the "new" line.

That was my biggest fear with CW.  I wasn't so upset that they made it into a line perse, but I was going to be VERY upset if they took up the retail space that the Saga figures belong in.  Here in SoCal, that seems to be what's happening all over, in all the different stores.  There are CW Anakins, Yodas, and even ARC Troopers now hanging 10 deep, across 6 or more pegs.  It's absolutely DISGUSTING.

Can't Hasbro or the store orderers curtail their supply of a line of this nature in the beginning, to test the market and even see if it's going to sell first, before completely flooding it?  This is like April '99 and '02 all over again, except with just 3 figures this time.  Granted the ARC Trooper has been doing a bit better than Ani and Yoda the first few weeks, but even that seems to be over now.  The ships are everywhere now too.   :-\

And as you all know, as long as these things are still clogging the pegs, a lot of the new Saga product is NOT going to get put out in many of your favorite stores...  I just don't know how they're going to move these, since the Yoda and Ani sales are apparently already done.  Perhaps the debut of the actual cartoon next month will help.  I pray it does, 'cause there's some more stinkers (Mace, Obi) coming in round 2.

I really hope this entire line is cleared out before that animated CW line hits early next year, or there's going to be some SERIOUS problems getting any new Saga product on the shelves.  What a shame.  Very sad indeed...

So, how bad has it gotten in your areas?  If it's not bad yet, my guess is that it will be very soon...  Cross your fingers!

So far, CW figures aren't in mass abundance here.  I've only seen Droid Launchers for the most part (They're more than enough to clog pegs themselves) really.

I've only seen 2 clone 3-packs (both yellow) and 2 Yodas and one of ARC and Anakin, so I'm hoping Pittsburgh is going to be spared this deluge of crap.

And crap it is!

At least Anakin is, and the Droid Launcher I feel Hasbro is OBLIGATED to take back at their own cost because THEY came up with that craptastic toy and decided to reship it (Not Hasbro's fault about distribution my @$$!)

The basic figures have come and gone at most stores here though so far.  And I'll nab ARC troopers left and right I've decided, but honestly what use is that Anakin or the Yoda?

I like Yoda even, honestly I do.  It's "unique" and while I'd love a NEW ESB Yoda, I can stomach "The Ugly" Yoda (From The good the bad and the ugly...  Get it?  Oh shut up!), he's gonna warm pegs.  It's inevitable.

I think the villain chick may do well, and honestly I think Durge may do better though I think he's an abomination of a character.  The neutral posed Jedi have the "Custom" factor to them, but that Anakin just bites the big one.

We'll have to see, but if your area's any indication Matt, I'm fearing what my area (Always about a month or more behind) may be in store for here soon. :(

Yeah, I was even counting those above, just the basic single carded stuff so far.  But if you want to discuss the Destroyer Droid Launchers too, well then hell - those things have been 10 deep since day 1 of their release over 2 months ago.  THOSE are the reason that none of us can find the damned Clonetrooper 3-packs!!!  >:(  They're going to have to clearance those things out for about $1.99, otherwise they ain't gonna move.  Same situation I just discussed above - these things are clogging the shelves, so there's no room for any more Deluxe CW, which aside from the DD Launchers, are much more popular than the standard CW line, due to their obvious cross over potential with the regular movies and Saga line.

Pretty sure I recall hearing that the case breakdowns on these CW Deluxe assortments was yet another in the long line of major Hasbro gaffes, with the DDLs getting more than their fair share of the box allotment, leaving the far more popular Clones (and even Droids) 3-packs in the dust!

They'll never learn, I tell ya'...   ::)

This sucks. I really want the CW Saesee Tiin and Kit Fisto. I hope these overstocks don't make that wave impossible to find.  :-\

Yeah, i agree.  CW is a major pegwarmer.  But hopefully when the Wave 2 gets released things will start to get good.  But i think they need to make more room at the stores for SW figures, it is a #1 collector, and they should fricken know that by know.  Make a bigger section for SW. NOW!!!

We're just finally getting better than average stocking levels on the Clone Wars line in the NY metro area.  It remains to be seen if the basic figures will be pegwarmers.  As for the army builder sets, they definitely made too many of the Destroyer Droid launchers.  That is definitely a pegwarmer.

I'll say that Yoda and ARC seem to be selling fairly well here (haven't been out shopping for a while) but Anakin is clogging the pegs worse than Malikili...and that is bad

Our only hope is that the kiddos buy into this whole stupid idea when the cartoon actually debuts in a month.

And it gets worse...the Colman styled Animated figures are also coming to a store near you.

Thank the Maker for e-tailers (unless Hasbro screws them!)

It may be a bit too early to tell. In fact, when you remember that the next assortment has absolutely NO refresh of Wave 1, and all figures are 4 per case, we're in for a good experiment into the actual sell-thru of this line. It will be easy to tell who has moved stock, ordered fresh cases, and what is really leftover.

It may turn out very different than the CW Deluxe stuff, which shipped those god-forsaken DD Launchers through 2 assortments. Its interesting to me that the Droid Army pack, which I thought was a sure-fire PW, actually seems to move, even if not at the rate of the Clone pack.

I see your point Matt -- I have the exact same fear, and probably ranted about the line a ton in the past and its risks, but it doesn't have me worried too much at the moment. Its actually nice to see new product on the shelves in fair quantity. I say give it a little time.

When Wave 2 starts to hit and clog shelves, I'll start my rants. :)

I have seen a lot of Anakin's and Yoda's sitting on the pegs, but I haven't seen many ARC Troopers sitting on the pegs.  In the last couple weeks I have purchased a total of 23 ARC Troopers... 21 one them are loose in my display of figures.  See a picture of them here.

Looks like you are doing the army building theing w/ the Arc... Though from what I gather (haven't read the books or comics yet) but I thought there was at the most four Arc's in existance...

I assume though you're just going your on route on those... which is ok.
Just wondering...

Ugh... I knew this would happen.  The real problem in my opinion was only releasing 3 figures in the first assortment... it would have been much better if they had done something like this for the first wave, which has 12 figures per case:

ARC Trooper X3
Yoda X3
Anakin X3
Assaj Ventress X3

Or, even better yet:

ARC Trooper X4
Yoda X3
Anakin X2
Assaj Ventress X2
Red Battle Droid X1 (Clone Wars packaging)

 :P

Nice I, like that: But i was wondering what i think would be pretty cool, is if they would make a whole case of 1x each figure, at the end of the Clone Wars line, and just have 2x Battle Droids like this:

1x ARC Trooper
1x Yoda
1x Anakin Skywalker
1x Asajj Ventress
1x Durge
1x Obi-Wan Kenobi
1x Mace Windu
1x Saesee Tiin
1x Kit Fisto
1x Super Articulated Clone Trooper
2x Battle Droid (Red) (Clone Wars Packaging)

that would be awesome.!

I thought I read somewhere there were hundreds of an ARC Trooper army, and they were all personally trained by Jango Fett (before his death).  Since ARC Troopers are EU for the time being, I'm just buidling it as big as possible.  A lot of people have given the ARC trooper a lot of crap, but I really like them a lot!
