Not spinning yet., but will be as soon as Tuesday gets here.

New Bad Religion!! I think Velvet Revolver comes out Tuesday too, so I'm looking forward to new music Tuesday for the first time in quite a while!

Yep--Velvet Revolver, PJ Harvey, and Sonic Youth are all coming out Tuesday, followed by Beastie Boys next week and Wilco the week after that.

First time I'll be picking up new music the day it's released since Hail to the Thief came out almost exactly one year ago. . .

Funny how it works--I haven't bought any CDs in several months, but I'll be buying at least five this month.  Oh well.  When it rains, it pours. . .

well, i was able to score early copies of that velvet revolver and the beastie boys. the velvet - ehh, it's good, but not as good as i had thought (and hoped) it would be. the beastie boys - that album is awesome. great "comeback" if you will for them.

i can't wait for that new bad religion though. what's it been, like 10 years since they put out a "real" album (live, best of, remixes, and "lost" tracks don't count  :D )

Can't wait to get The Velvet's (is that what we're calling them now?) tomorrow in spite of dave's glowing review...also looking forward to Wilco in 2 weeks

Anyone heard anything on Audioslave?  They still together?  I need to pull that one out

And Billy C is coming out with a solo disc...right, right?  That I am looking forward too

No, no, no.  You can't call Velvet Revolver "the Velvets," since that's what people already call The Velvet Underground.

I was very tempted to pick up the VR cd this morning, but passed until I hear some more tracks or read some reviews.  I did pick this up, though:

It sucks.  Don't buy it.

I heard the song "The Future Freaks Me Out" on the radio and thought it was kind of catchy:
The Future Freaks Me Out Free Download

I saw that the CD was $10 at Target so I bought it.  Great little CD.

So did you pick up PJ Harvey or Sonic Youth? I'm using you as a guide for whether either might interest me...

So did you pick up PJ Harvey or Sonic Youth?

"Or"?  How 'bout "both"?

Listened to PJ all the way through, and I really like it so far.  The buzz on this record is that it's kind of going back to the rawer sound she had with Rid of Me and To Bring You My Love, and it's going away from the slicker sound she had on Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea.  I like the first single, "The Letter", a lot, and the vocal stylings of "You Come Through" have been going through my head on and off all day.  Good stuff.

As for the Sonics--haven't listened to the full album yet, although I do like what I hear so far.  To tell the truth, I saw 'em live back in March, when they had just finished up recording this album, and the new stuff didn't do a whole lot for me at the time.  But now, hearing a few of the songs on the record that they played at the show, I'm likin' 'em a lot more.  (Probably that whole thing at shows when the band plays new stuff--it's kind of hard to get into sometimes.)  But, so far, it seems like a really solid record so far, and I've seen a few people that are saying that this is the best record they've done since the Sister/Daydream Nation/Goo/Dirty days.

Both records are $10 at Best Buy this week--great deal.

(And both PJ and SY are playing the same day at Lollapalooza in Dallas in August--that's going to be a f--king trip.  First time to see PJ--can't wait.)

As for VR--well, I haven't listened to the full thing yet.  A few tracks here, and a few tracks there, and although it seems like decent rock music, nothing's really stood out to me so far.  I'll have a chance this weekend to really sit down and listen to it (and the others), but either this is a lot more bland than it could have been, or my tastes in music have really changed since back in the late eighties and early nineties, when I was a huge GN'R fan.  Probably a mixture of both.

I'm still glad to see the guys working again (especially Slash and Duff), but I'm considerably less excited about them after the stuff I've heard than before.

Still--I'm hearing all kinds of good stuff about their live show (doing their own originals, plus GN'R and STP classics, and a Nirvana cover or two).  Really looking forward to seeing them in Dallas two weeks from now. . .

Don't--don't do that.

I just got the new PJ Harvey album, Uh Huh Her last night.  I've been listening to it in stages as I have it in the car and I was running errands this morning.  So far it's pretty cool.  It harkens back to the Rid Of Me days, and has the stripped down coolness of 4-Track demos.  It takes me time to really get everything out of her records, but I think that's part of what makes them so great.

I also picked up Melissa Auf der Maur's record after sampling it at the listening station at Tower.  Pretty cool.  I haven't listened to it yet, but I'll be getting to it over the weekend.

Also, I'd love to hear some reviews on the Sonic Youth record.

Spinning earlier:

("Ignoreland" rules.)

Now spinning:

(Some somewhat-known trivia:  That ain't Mick's crotch.)

Listened to the new PJ Harvey and Sonic Youth albums all this weekend, and I really, really, really, really like them both.  The PJ, I kind of described earlier, but SY is just a really solid album.  It's got a laid-back kind of vibe that I don't know that I've ever heard on their earlier records.  I totally love "I Love You Golden Blue".  Can't wait to hear these songs live again.

I thought the comparisons to Sister/Daydream Nation/Goo/Dirty were a little hard to believe earlier, but after listening several times, that wasn't too far off.  Good stuff.

New Beastie Boys tomorrow.

New Beastie Boys tomorrow.

Yep, I can't wait.  I recorded the live version of Ch-check It Out from the MTV awards show.  Very cool.  I thought their performance was outstanding.
