Certainly a topic worthy of discussion.  The guys at Hasbro seem into the concept, but it might take a while to get around to these.  Still, here's what might be a good first lineup.

THE PHANTOM MENACE
-Qui-Gon Jinn
-Darth Maul
-Battle Droid
-Queen Amidala

ATTACK OF THE CLONES
-Anakin Skywalker
-Obi-Wan Kenobi
-Count Dooku
-Jango Fett

REVENGE OF THE SITH
-Darth Vader
-General Grievous
-Darth Sidious
-Yoda

Ah, Grievous is one I forgot.  Although we did see several versions in the ROTS lineup (and now repacked in TSC), we really could use an all-new (larger) sculpted one.  Watching ROTS helps me to realize that the figures are fairly underscaled.  And, even though we've seen more than a few Yodas in the prequel lines, they still haven't exactly gotten him "perfect".  They could probably make an improvement there too.

I'm not at all opposed to high quality PT figures, but I just see no appeal in mimicing the vintage styling for those movies.  They were never on that style of cardback so why bother?  Blasphemous I say.

I wouldn't mind seeing the main characters (and important lesser characters) being done in a highly articulated manner, but I see no point in paying the $4-5 premium for an underserved cardback.

I can't believe you guys.

Why don't we just call them SAGA and pretend like we've always been getting quality figures for all the money we shell out.

I think everyone recognizes just how iconic those original cardbacks were.  Even Hasbro did, since they tried to rekindle that nostalgia with the OTC line.  It seems like the ultimate achievment for a Star Wars character to be made on one of these cards.

Though George Lucas on a Stormtrooper card is a bit blasphemous as well, so I think there's enough room for play on the slippery slope. I honestly don't care what the cardback looks like, just as long as we can get vTOC/vTSC quality articulation, sculpt, and soft goods. Unfortunately it looks like we're living in a new world where we have to pay more to get it. so I'll play along with what I'd want out of the overpriced line:

I'd like them to mix waves instead of a per-movie release. And my list of figures I think need the oomph of a $10+ figure hasn't changed much:

Qui-Gon Jinn (TPM)
Obi-Wan (TPM)
Jango Fett (AOTC)
Padme Amidala (AOTC Geonosis)
Mace Windu (ROTS)
General Grievous (ROTS)

If those were covered I'd be happy.

That's a good point about the Lucas Trooper.  Maybe Hasbro is testing the waters on how far they can go with not so vintage vintage cards.  Me personally, I'd love PT vintage cards, and I'd bet dollars to doughnuts it will happen.

My preferences:

TPM:
Qui Gon
Darth Maul
Handmaiden Padme
Obi Wan

AOTC:
Jango Fett
Mace Windu
Yoda

ROTS:
Senate Duel Sidious
Grievous

TPM:
Qui-Gon Jinn
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Watto
OOM-9

AOTC:
Jango Fett w/ Removable Helmet
Mace Windu
Super Battle Droid
Padme Amidala (Arena)

ROTS:
Darth Vader (Pre-suit w/ Sith Eyes)
501st Trooper
General Greivous
Magna Guard

WHICH MEANS:  "Holy ******* ****, please shoot m

Good point Jared, and I like your list as well.  I'd be pretty happy if we got those 6 figures in the "VOTC" style as well.  I agree with what Brent mentioned earlier, I don't feel these necessarily have to be on the "vintage" cards either - because they're not vintage.  If they want to design something new for them, that's fine - and it would be ideal if we could just get them in the "regular" line for $6ish, but that probably won't happen.  The Evolutions set option really could have worked for these, and hopefully they'll go back to that sort of a line eventually.  I don't care how we get them carded/packaged wise, as long as we can get some nice new, SA figures of these characters.  I'd be ok if the "vintage" carded thing remained with the OT - and only using the figures that actually had vintage cards.  Sure, I want to see other OT characters - and remakes like "old" Tarkin - but hopefully we can see those in the regular line.

Like I said earlier in this thread, if they made them, I'd probably buy them.

Sure it's blasphemous to some to even consider it, but you all know you'd love to buy a SA JarJar on a "vintage" style card.  :P

I still think though that the best way to do it would be to grind out the VTSC/VOTC type stuff until they have covered all 93-100 Kenner figures and meanwhile grind out Evolutions style 3-packs for the prequel stuff.  No one would have a problem with that I think... well, OK someone would have a problem with it because some people will have a problem no matter what Hasbro does.   ;)

I wouldn't be fond of a Vintage card, since Prequel stuff isn't "Vintage".  :-\
I would buy things though.

I think this is a great idea... to see the prequel figures put on a retro-vintage card-style would be hot.  Everybody has a good list of choices.  I think I'd like to see:

TPM
Qui Gon
Obi Wan
Padme
Darth Maul

AOTC
Anakin
Yoda
Jango Fett
Count Dooku

ROTS
Sidious/Palpatine
Clone Trooper
Mace Windu
Grievous

I can almost see these now: Mace on a Sith or Clones card with a little purple backdrop for his coffin blister.   :)
