3 Variants Should Be 9 Configurations

Right Arm 1
Left Arm 1

Right Arm 1
Left Arm 2

Right Arm 1
Left Arm 3

Right Arm 2
Left Arm 1

Right Arm 2
Left Arm 2

Right Arm 2
Left Arm 3

Right Arm 3
Left Arm 1

Right Arm 3
Left Arm 2

Right Arm 3
Left Arm 3

Based on these pics though...I would guess there is a lot more than 9 though as I think the gun hands can be changed as well meaning 18 configurations (I can't remember though if both arms come off or not...it might still be 9, hey, I'm 30 :'()

It's my understanding that there's 3 different Stormtroopers that are out (which makes two variants, though they're all evenly distributed, I know).  Semantics.  I think from those 3, you can make up a total of 8 different arm combinations, essentially making 8 unique Stormies.

Yes.  Three Different Stormtrooper Sculpts:

BUT, there are only FOUR unique Arms.  Let's call the Stormies 1, 2, 3 from the photo above.

#1 and #2 share the same right arm (A), while #3 has a unique right arm (B)
#1 and #3 share the same left arm (A), while #2 has a unique left arm (B).

So, we have

1 - Right Arm A - Left Arm A
2 - Right Arm A - Left Arm B
3 - Right Arm B - Left Arm A
4 - Right Arm B - Left Arm B

You already get 1, 2, 3 in the packs, so the only one to create is #4 using Trooper #2's left Arm and #3's right arm.

THEN, you switch the guns around (TWO different guns) to get the 8 combos.

2 right arm X 2 left arm X 2 guns = 8 combos

1 - Right Arm A - Left Arm A - Long Rifle
2 - Right Arm A - Left Arm B - Blaster
3 - Right Arm B - Left Arm A - Blaster
4 - Right Arm B - Left Arm B - Long Rifle
5 - Right Arm A - Left Arm A - Blaster
6 - Right Arm A - Left Arm B - Long Rifle
7 - Right Arm B - Left Arm A - Long Rifle
8 - Right Arm B - Left Arm B - Blaster

What I find funny is that in order to achieve all 8 stances, you may actually need FOUR of the SWshop.com 3-packs.   ::)

Since you only get 1 long rifle per set of 3 (according to the picture) and you need FOUR long rifles to complete the 4 figures, you'd need 4 sets of 3.  Also, you'd need FOUR of Trooper #2 and #3 each in order to mix the arms to get enough parts to make 2x Trooper #4 and still ahve 2x Trooper #2 and #3.  If you did that, you'd end up with another extra Trooper #1 everytime you make a Trooper #4, thus 2x more Trooper #1 from creating 2x Trooper #4.

SO, to truly cover your bases, you better order FOUR of the Stormie 3-packs.  Then, you'd have enough parts for:

1x Trooper #1 - Right Arm A - Left Arm A - Long Rifle
1x Trooper #2 - Right Arm A - Left Arm B - Blaster
1x Trooper #3 - Right Arm B - Left Arm A - Blaster
1x Trooper #4 - Right Arm B - Left Arm B - Long Rifle
5x Trooper #5 - Right Arm A - Left Arm A - Blaster
1x Trooper #6 - Right Arm A - Left Arm B - Long Rifle
1x Trooper #7 - Right Arm B - Left Arm A - Long Rifle
1x Trooper #8 - Right Arm B - Left Arm B - Blaster

OR, I could be completely wrong or the 3-packs are completely blinded and that would change the whole thing for how many you'd need.  It's suck if you ordered 4 sets and got 6 Trooper #1 and 6x Trooper #2, you'd be screwed...  :P

Ok, I know one of you at least is an engineer and you guys are undecided on math.  Is this feeling of general nervousness warranted, if unwelcome? ;)

I thought I saw 3 different arms

Right Arm pointed from hip
Right Arm Flex Up
Right Arm Pointing across Body

But there are only 2 Left Arms it appears

So that means 12 different combos with the 2 guns...Right?

Sheesh.  I guess I'll figure it out later when they start freakin' showing up finally (incl. the SWS.com ones).  SWS.com said you had to order 3 sets (9 total) to get the 8 different configurations possible.  Stupid ass me for trusting their retarded math.   ::)

Definitely looks like more than 4 different arms there though.  Look at the two left arms of the guys on the left and right carefully.  They look similar, but one's palm is facing down, while the other's is facing up.

Question is:  Are the guns removable?  Doubtful.  Assuming not, I'd say from those 2 pix that there's actually FIVE right arms and THREE left arms...  Calculate that.   :-*

I can't remember but I would guess the gun and right hand piece are removable

Not sure if the same thing is true for the left hands too

There seems to be a lot more than 8 configurations though (to me at least)

3 Bust Ups per pack with the ability to build any of eight configurations

This is what it says at SWS.com about these, maybe you get extra arms with each Stormie, allowing you to make any of the 8 with a 3 pack. Because I'll be a little pissed if by ordering 3 3-packs, I still am not able to display every possible variation.

One more thing about SWS.com and their 3-packs. If there is indeed only 8 configurations, that's pretty sneaky (and crappy) on their part by only offering these in 3 packs. Why not 2-packs or 4 packs? Nope, by doing it this way, they force you to by an extra one to get all the possibilities. Bastages.  ::)

Hmm, I think I found a market for your lonely extra Stormie.  I ordered only two-three packs from SWS.com because I ordered a case of series two.  I was thinking that I had two Stormies and that would cover all eight.  Just now I realized I have to send one of the stormtroopers to Dave with his set.  D'oh!

Actually, Brent, you don't. I ordered those packs from SWS.com as well, so no worries

Different palm direction can be explained by articulation in the wrist...

Perhaps the guns are not removablefrom the hand, but could the HAND be removable from the arm?

You know, like in this Clone picture:
GG Clone Trooper from Toy Fair

See how his gun/hand comes off at the wrist?  I'd wager the Stormies are like that.

Or again, I could be wrong. :-\

Jeff, I think it is removable (which I guess I was trying to say rather poorly) But it sure looks like at least 3 different Right Arms to me and 2 Different Leftys

I know I have 2 different Stormies at home that I will be fondling when I get a chance tonight :P

Ouch, you guys are making my brain hurt.  I wish SWS.com would get their shite together and send these out already.  I've been waiting long enough, and all of this discussion has me EXTREMELY curious as to what exactly we're going to be getting with these 3 3-packs.

I got my 2nd series at Sam Goody today.

At least I hope I did. I haven't yet gone to the trouble of opening them, but I'm certain I have 1 Stormtrooper, Royal Guard, and Dooku. It's the other 3 I'm not sure of.

And I see GG has gone out of their way to shrink wrap the boxes, so you can't easily pop it open and see what's inside.

I'm betting I got some doubles.  :P
